Start Here

First off thanks for joining us here at Hack the Razr where you can get the most out of your phone. If this is your first time hacking your razr, then this is a perfect place to start.

Picture your phone as a mini, handheld computer that uses alot of the same concepts. At the end of your hacking journey you'll most likely somewhat forget that you can do all of this and all of that, and oh hey - it makes phone calls too.

It has a filesystem, much like your computer, that you can navigate and upload / download to. Most of the programs used to explore and change this filesystem can even be treated like just another windows explorer window, in that you can drag and drop a file from your computer onto the filesystem program. Note that downloading content like pictures and videos that you've taken does not act in this way, and instead has some sort of copy or save button.

Hacking your Razr voids your warranty However, just about every single guide here at Hack the Razr is capable of being reverted back to stock, original settings and display. Meaning that you can change the image displayed on the outside LCD screen
when you have your phone open to say, the Koolaid man, and then change it right back to the original Verizon logo, without a problem and without a trace of any hacks. Very nice! and pretty much required if you want to avoid problems when taking your phone into your wireless carrier, especially if something breaks on your phone.

At any rate, try and follow the specific steps of every guide (including reading all notes and requirements) and you shouldnt find yourself with an expensive paper weight (as properly put by pyde pypper). All of the hacks here are safe, and should not break your phone. Just be careful, very specific, and remember that you are altering the way in which your phone operates. Dont forget to make a backup of all files you are changing, including seems, images, and anything else you might need a backup of. We do have a section of original files that you can download, just in case you forget. Also, please save your exploration of new hacks and what not until you get fully comfortable with all aspects of hacking your razr.

USB Cable or Bluetooth? Although some Razr's have full bluetooth support and transferring content and such may be possible, with the CDMA Razr's (like the v3c and v3m from Verizon and Sprint) most, if not all, bluetooth support has been removed. However, it seems as though simply using a USB cable for computer connectivity is more or less the easiest, most reliable way to hack your razr. If you look at your phones plug in area you will notice that it is the exact same as many digital cameras, mp3 players, and other goodies. Just about all of these USB cables will work perfectly fine for your razr, and if you cant get your computer to even recognize a new device, simply try a different USB cable.

USB Device Drivers The so-called USB device drivers is basically how your computer knows how to talk to the phone. Some programs may require up to 5 device drivers to work properly. When connecting a v3c or v3m model razr, it will read it as a Motorola v3c (even if you really have a v3m) because they are more or less the same phone (atleast for Verizon and Alltel) that simply have the added microSD expandable memory slot and the accompanying music player.

When connecting your Razr, make sure that you use the same USB slot on your computer each time. Its best to just leave the cable plugged in that way you dont forget which one it was plugged into. The reason being that everytime you plug it into a new USB slot, it will want you to install everything again (as it thinks its another new device)

Installing drivers will be a re-occuring theme, and you will probably have to do it relatively often throughout your hacking experience. So yeah, nows the time to get familiar with it :)

Note: For Windows XP users, these drivers and following programs will not work at all unless you have Service Pack 2. It has been reported that you may be able to get most of this stuff to work on Windows Vista and possibly Windows 2000. It is possible to do certain
things with the mac, and documented information will be coming soon.

US Cellular Razr V3M

In here, we have a couple of guides for you Razr V3m/V3c owners who are using US Cellular (USCC) as your service provider. Most of the seem edit 'hacks' for Verizon Wireless (VZW) users don't need to be done on your phone, but there are a couple of things that are in the VZW guide that you USCC users can do, but the steps are a little different.

Dial up Networking on USCC (V3m/V3c)

Say you're on the road with your laptop or somewhere else without any other Internet access, but you've got a V3m (or even a V3c) using US Cellular (USCC) as your cell phone provider, a computer, and the proper USB cord and drivers. Well, this guide MIGHT be for you! BUT, first I have a disclaimer or two for you to read.



Now I have used this method in this guide using US Cellular (USCC) as my service provider with a V3m. But first, on to the disclaimer:

I don't know if USCC has any 'older' plans (or even if there is such a thing) as they seem to kind of follow VZW's policies on their plan options, so I cannot address what you may be charged, but I DO know about their current plans. If you're on USCC's 'Nationwide" or 'Wide area' plans, you WILL be charged $2.99/mB of usage up and down, unless you have the $9.99 per month 'Unlimited Easyedge' addition to your USCC plan.

I also know that you should watch your overall bandwidth usage even if you have the above mentioned data plan as I think you're still limited to about 5gB per month. It is also sugguested that you disable EVDO on your phone as VZW at least monitors that bandwidth much closer than the 1x, but again, I don't know USCC's policies on this. However, as opposed to the older guides for DUN, it is NOT required to make this work. The guide to disable EVDO is here at hacktherazr.com.

  • OK, to start, you must get some information from your phone's menu system first, i.e., your Mobile Identification Number (MIN) and your Service Programming Code (SPC). Your MIN on USCC usually is different than your actual phone number and to get it, you'll need your SPC first. If you already know your MIN, then you can skip down a few steps, otherwise, follow these steps:
    • You WILL need to have a seem editor program to extract the SPC from your phone to make this work. You can either get it here @ HTR in the guide section, or you can aquire the new P2K05 editor here at my site. I have had luck using it with my own V3m running the USCC firmware. Just jump down to item #2 in the article at my site to aquire the P2k05Seem program and go on from there to use it. After following those instructions to make it work, all you have to do is plug in your phone and start the P2k05 program. Your SPC will be shown in the right hand window without you having to actually do anything else with that program. Now write down your SPC.
    • Now, if for some reason, the above program does not work for you, you can use the other seem editing program (either from here or there) with RSD Gen in the background and then enter these settings info in the seem editing program:
      • Seem = 0055, bytes = 0006, record = 0001; Then click the "Read Phone" button. In the right hand side of the window you will see a six digit number and that is your SPC. Write it down.
  • Now, let's get your MIN. To do that follow these steps:
    • On your phone, type in #0setup* (#073887*).
    • When it says "Enter Security Code", type in 000000 (six zero's) and hit the "OK" button.
    • Scroll down to the "User Activation" item and hit the "select" button
    • Now, it's going to ask for the SPC, enter that here and hit the "OK" button.
    • Under NAM 1, just hit the "Select" button. BAM! There's your MIN and that's what it's called there. Write down the whole ten digit number you see there. And just for kicks, you will see another number two spaces down called "MDN" and that should be your actual phone number.
  • All right now, let's setup your computer for this new connection while out on the road, or wherever you have service.
  • First, make sure your phone is set to "Modem/COM" in the connection menu on the phone and then plug it into your computer.
  • Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Network Connections. Then in the left pane, click on "Create a New Connection".
  • Then you'll have the "New Connection Wizard" window, click on the "Next" button.
  • In the next window under "Network Connection Type", make sure the "Connect to the Internet" option is selected (may be the default) and then click the "Next" button.
  • In the "Getting Ready" window, select the "Set up my Connection Manually" option and click "Next".
  • In the "Internet Connection" window, make sure the "Connect using a dial-up modem" (may be the default) option is selected and click "Next".
  • In the "Select a Device" window, make sure you select your phone "Modem - Motorola USB Modem", then click "Next".
  • In the "ISP Name" bos you can type whatever you want here, I used "USCC". Then click the "Next" button.
  • In the "Phone Number" box, type in #777. Then click the "Next" button.
  • In the "Internet Account Information" widow, enter these values:
    • User Name = 'your ten digit MIN'@uscc.net.
    • Password = 'your ten digit phone number'.
    • The "Use this account name, etc." for anyone and the "Make this the default connection" options are up to you. I personally DON'T leave the default connection box checked as I only use this connection as a backup.
  • When you're done filling out the above info, click the "Next" button, and then the next window will say it's completed, go ahead and click the "Finish" button and you're done!
  • It may go ahead and pop up the connection window right away, just click cancel for now.

Let's Get Connected:

Now let's try this bad boy out! First make sure all other internet connections on your computer are disabled. Then go to your "Start" menu, then to "Connect To", then select your USCC (or whatever you named it) connection. In the next window, just click the "Dial" button and wait. It'll show dialing #777, and then after it registers you, BOOM BABY, you're on the internet using your razr as a modem!

One last note, if your phone's screen shows "Packet Data", don't worry, this is totally normal. Enjoy!

Flashing your USCC V3m to Vivo

Now, if I wanted to take the time, I would have the full write-up here, but I don't and won't. If you are still a dinosaur like me and have a V3m on USCC and want to use a bit better f/w on it, then go here and read the rest. After all, I do this in my spare time and no longer want to spend the time to do dual write-ups.

Getting JAVA on your USCC V3m/V3c

So, this may be the first actual guide to getting a Telus flash (i.e. JAVA based firmware) working on a V3m/V3c. Sorry, but for now, it's just a link to a guide at my site.

I did this on my USCC phone since it's a bit easier to restore DATA than on a VZW phone.

Using the HTR WAP Proxy on your USCC Razr V3m/V3c

Been around the forums here and hear all the talk about the 'free' wap hack, but can't do it on your USCC phone? Or, maybe you already have figured out how to do this. Well, this guide is for those who haven't.

A disclaimer first, I don't know about the skinny on any 'older' plans that USCC used to offer, so this 'hack' is based on the Nationwide or Wide Area plans that they have now, and that said, it isn't totally free, but it will save you about $5 per month over the EasyEdge to Go service (EE2GO). If you don't already, you should have the monthly unlimited easyedge ($9.99/mo) package added to your plan, otherwise you will be charged $2.99 per mB of data, but if you already have the EE2GO plan, you can now drop that sucker!

Ready? Well, let's go! Eye-wink

First off, if you're just a lurker here, you need to sign up for an account here so you can access the HTR proxy when your done. Then we need to do one seem edit and/or read the info in another seem to get this thing going.

Second, you should aquire the proper software to perform seem edits on your phone here at this site and read a bit about how to do them as well.

OK, fire up the program(s) you need to do a seem edit on your phone and in the seem editor program enter this information: Seem = 0055, Record = 0001, Bytes = 0006; then click the "Read Phone" button. In the far right hand of the seem editor window you will see a six digit number, write that number down, you WILL need it later. DO NOT do any edits to this seem! Next, enter this information in your seem editing program: Seem = 2742, Record = 0001, Bytes = 0000; then go to offset 0018 and check bit 5. Now go ahead and click the "Save to Phone" button and then exit the program(s) and power cycle your phone.

When your phone is powered back up, you can pretty much follow the 'Free Wap' guide here @ HTR, http://www.hacktherazr.com/guides/verizon/features/free-wap but when you enter the "Web Sessions" menu on your phone in step three, you will also need to enter that six digit number I asked you to write down above. There is another difference as well. When is step six of the guide mentioned above, you will find that all it says on your USCC phone is "http://". You'll want to go ahead and add/edit it so it says "http://homepage".

Also, you will not be able to access this through the regular menus on your USCC phone, so you will have to use the step mentioned as a sub text in step eight every time to access this. What you're doing is actually using the Openwave browser built into your Moto phone and totally bypassing the POS EE2GO and even the nWeb browser.

Finally, this is a rough draft of this guide, sometime soon, I will include all the ino here with better formatting to make it look 'cooler' Eye-wink

How to setup Motorola Phone Tools with a Verizon v3c / v3m Razr-soon to be deleted

Well, I hope that my changes here won't break any links. Also, the reason the title of this guide has an ending "soon to be deleted" is because it's almost duplicated in this guide here. I intend to preserve some of the usefull links in this guide before it goes bye-bye.


Motorola Phone Tools, otherwise known as MPT, can be used to upload your own ringtones, pictures, and videos to your Verizon v3c / v3m Razr -- free of charge. These phones come stock from Verizon with this feature blocked, probably for the potential profits that can be made with this feature not available. However, with a relatively simple modification to the phones programming, we can unblock this feature so that we may upload our own content to our phone, for free.



Used in this guide:
    * Mobile Phone Tools - Version 3.20f [purchase it with a usb cable] -->
    * Standard USB cable [PICTURE]
    * Required seem edit: "Enable USB Transfers" [GUIDE] [SEEM EDITS]
    * Razr V3C / V3M from Verizon


!!! A SEEM EDIT IS REQUIRED TO MAKE MPT WORK !!!
You need to modify the programming of the phone first, by performing a seem edit.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLING MOBILE PHONE TOOLS [MPT 3.20f]
1. When you launch MPT you will see the MPT splash. After that, a box that says Choose a profile will pop up. For right now, click ok to use the default profile














2. The next window is to register your MPT. You can always go back and register MPT later, so for now lets click Register later...















3. If the next window is this window:
then click yes












4. Select how your phone will connect to your PC -- for this tutorials application we are going to use the USB Cable -- so make sure that USB cable is selected and then click next















5. When you reach the next window, Phone Setup that means that its time to plug your Razr back in and then the setup should start to automatically detect your phone
















6. If it comes back to this window:
then click no











7. Then it will load a default phone, and attempt to initialize














8. This default profile will probably not work with the V3C, so Click the Menu button then goto Setup then click General Setup















9. In General Setup, goto the Communication Tab and then click Change Modem















10. It then takes you to the Device configuration wizard where you then click next
















11. Click on Motorola USB Modem to highlight it and then press Next















12. Takes you to the Detect Driver window where you click next















13. Then it automatically detects your phone and actuall talks with it, until its done when it says "* Closing motorola USB modem" then click next















14. Then you reach Model Selection where, this time around, you're going to select Motorola CDMA and then on the right select Motorola - CDMA Generic and then click next















15. Device configuration is completed so then click next















16. Then you get back to the general setup window, where you click OK -- after this, it will take you back to the same phone, however this time it should actually work and connect after about 10-15 seconds. You can tell it worked by the appearance of Verizon (US)















17. Next, you want to do steps 14-22 all over again by:
    clicking Menu > Setup > General Setup
    clicking onto the Communication tab
    clicking Change Modem
    clicking next
    selecting motorola usb modem and click next
    wait for phone to talk and then click next
    NOW THE NEXT STEP IS WHERE ITS DIFFERENT














18. In the Model Selection window highlight Motorola GSM and then on the right panel highlight Motorola - V3 and then click next















19. Next it should goto Device configuration complete so then click finish and back at the General Setup window click OK

Then watch happily as finally, all the hard work has paid off and we've got the Motorola Razr V3C for Verizon to work with MPT V3.20f






Dont forget that in order to actually use most of the functions
you have to press the <> icon above the red power off button

PST 7.2.3: Backing up your phone book

Ever thought for a couple minutes that you've lost your phone and found yourself thinking about all those numbers you're gonna lose? Yeah. Us too. Thats why backing up your phone book ever so often is a good thing. Because if you ever actually lose your phone (knock on wood) atleast you've got your precious contacts.


For this guide we will be using:
* Motorola Razr V3C for Verizon
* Mini USB cable
* PST 7.2.3 - Phone Programmer [download unavailable]
PST 7.2.5 can be used instead [DOWNLOAD]





How to back up your phone book with PST

  1. Connect your phone with the mini USB cable
    2. (assuming you've installed PST) Click start and then goto All Programs and find Motorola PST and then click on Phone Programmer to start the interface

    3. You will hear a series of USB chimes. After they stop goto File > New and then a window will pop up with icons - Click Phone Book File and then go ahead and click OK

    4. Now we're ready to grab that phone book from your Razr. The phone drop down should have appeared, click Phone > Read
    5. It will now establish a connection with your phone. Then followed by a retrieval of the Motorola Device Interface. All non-sense you dont really need to know. Eventually it will read the Phone book from you phone and show you a progress bar. This whole process may take a few minutes.

    6. 100% = The phone book is ready for harvest. Your contacts have been plucked from your phone and entered into a window behind this progress window. It is now safe to disconnect the phone. Press the X in the top right of this window to get rid of it.

    7. You'll find yourself at a list of your contacts in a more raw form. This method may cause entires with multiple numbers associated to the same name (IE: Mom > home > cell >etc.) to become seperate entries. Hey, atleast you have a backup.

    8. Goto File > Save. Now save this .phb somewhere you'll easily remember, like the My Documents folder. Also name it something you'll remember like "Phone Book - 05/22/06.phb"

    9. Wham. You've got some saved phone book action going on. No more worriess

So you've lost your phone, changed your firmware, or otherwise huh? Well arnt you glad you made a backup of your phone book now eh. Dont worry, its simple. But just a warning: For contacts that had more then 1 number per name, you may get individual contacts for each number. As in Mom = Home + Cell would now equal Mom = Home and Mom = Cell as two seperate entries. Atleast you have> the number.

For this guide we will be using:

How to back up your phone book with PST

  1. Connect your phone with the mini USB cable
    2. (assuming you've installed PST) Click start and then goto All Programs and find Motorola PST and then click on Phone Programmer to start the interface

    3. You will hear a series of USB chimes. After they stop goto File > Open and then an extension of Open will appear with icons - Click Phone Book
    4. It will open up a window where you will now select your Phone Book backup file. If you used your example name, you would look for "Phone Book 05-22-06.phb" - Once you find your backup file, select it and press Open. Now it will show you your back up file. Goto Phone > Write and then it will begin to restore your phone book backup.

    5. It will now establish a connection with your phone. Eventually it will write the Phone book to your phone and show you a progress bar. This whole process may take a few minutes.

    6. 100% = The phone book has been restored. Your contacts have been restored to your phone and you should now have a full phone book. It is now safe to disconnect the phone. Press the X in the top right of this window to get rid of it.

    7. All done. Now you can close PST and consider this a job well done. Pat yourself on the back, you prevented yourself from losing your life saving of cell phone contacts! Now, dont let it happen again! Just kidding.

Dial Up Networking

Say you're on the road with your laptop or in a cabin in the mountains, or somewhere else without any other Internet access, but you've got a Verizon Wireless (VZW) V3m (or even a VZW V3c), a computer, and the proper USB cord and drivers. Well, this guide will walk you through getting Dial up Networking (DUN) working on your VZW phone! BUT, first I have a couple of disclaimers. One, I/we have done this on most all VZW V3c's but mostly VZW V3m's using the NEWC_ software. If you have a VZW V3m running the 24.1_ software, I think it will still work, BUT I don't know if the first seem edit is needed nor will work for you. The next MAJOR disclaimer is listed below:



If you are one of the lucky (or smart) ones who are still on Verizon Wireless's (VZW) older America's Choice plans, well this will only eat up your plan minutes! Yeah, buddy, that also means that this is FREE on nights and weekends. KeWl, eh?

HOWEVER, (and I can not stress this enough), if you've let your plan be upgraded or have signed up with VZW since about November 2007, and are on one of thier new 'Nationwide' plans, you WILL be charged $1.99/mB of usage up and down. If you are not sure which plan you are on, STOP AND DO NOT USE THIS GUIDE UNTIL YOU DO KNOW which VZW plan you are on! On the newer 'Nationwide Plan' you USED to be able to bypass the per megabyte data charge with the $15/mo vCast addition to your plan, BUT this is only if you signed up for vCast prior to Sept 2009. Now, you can either sign up for a 'Connect' plan, 'Premium" plan, or choose from two different tiers, 25mB/mo for $9.99 and 75mB/mo for $19.99.

It used to be that you needed to disable EVDO on your VZW phone to make this work, however, as opposed to the older guide for DUN, it is NOT required. HOWEVER, if you chose to use this without disabling EVDO, I STRONGLY suggest you do so sparingly. The guide to disable EVDO is linked here at hacktherazr.com.

Section A; Required Seem Edits:

If you are on VZW and still using a V3m with the NEWC_ firmware mentioned above or any VZW V3c, you will NEED to do the following seem edits (the first one may not be required if you've flashed your phone to a moto ui and/or on a VZW V3m running 24.1_ f/w):

  1. Seem = 2742, bytes = 0000, record = 0001, offset = 006a; Check bit 3. This enables DUN. If you don't know how to do a seem edit, read either this guide here at HTR, or my seem editing article.
  2. This next seem edit is quite different as you won't be checking bits, but changing info in the far right hand side of the window, and you must ONLY CHANGE THE ITEMS TOLD TO, OR YOUR PHONE MAY QUIT WORKING! The following info is thanks to pyde_pypper:
    • First, download the modified seem file. You won't have to extract it or anything.
    • In your seem editing program, enter in this info: Seem = 0b09, bytes = 90, record = 0001; then hit the "Read Phone" button.
    • BEFORE you do anything else, hit the "Save File" button to save a backup of your seem, just in case.
    • Then click the "Load File" button and load the 0b09_0001_Pyde_edited.seem file. You should see the info in the right hand side of the window change.
    • On the right, where it says "5555555555@vzw3g.com", move your cursor over to the right side and click on the first '5'.
    • Then just type in your ten digit phone number with area code and you're done. DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING ELSE!
    • If you accidently type over any other info, just reload the edited file and start over.
    • When you are done, go ahead and click the "Save Phone" button, unplug your phone and power cycle it.
    • It is this edit that removes the requirement of disabling EVDO to be able to use DUN.
    • One last thing, if you ever do a *228, it will revert your 0b09 seem back and this will have to be redone.

Section B; Setting up the connection on your Computer:

I should point out that the steps outlined below were done on a PC using Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 2 (WinXPSP2). If you are running Vista, your menu's and mileage will vary.

  1. Go to Start > Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections Tab.
  2. Under Dial-up and Virtual Private Network settings click the "Add" button
  3. Dial-Up to Private Network should be the default radio button selected, if it isn't - click it.
  4. Phone number is: #777
  5. And then press Next.
  6. Name the connection whatever you want, I used Verizon.
  7. And then press Finish.
  8. Click Automatically detect settings and make sure its checked.
  9. At the bottom of this window, edit as follows:
    • User name = 'your ten digit phone number'@vzw3g.com.
    • Password = vzw
    • Leave the domain box blank.
    • Click the Properties button located to the right of User name. A new window will pop up with tabs at the top.
    • Click the Security tab and then underneath Security Options, Click the Advanced (custom settings) radio button and then Click the "Settings" button.
    • Under where it says "Allow these Protocols" all of the check boxes will be checked.
    • Uncheck all of them except "Unencrypted Password" (PAP)
    • Then click OK and then Click Yes on the popup window about data encryption.
  10. Click OK on all of the subsequent windows until you get rid of the initial Internet Options windows.
  11. And now, that's it! Ready, set, go!

 

Section C; Connecting:

Now let's try this bad boy out! First make sure all other internet connections on your computer are disabled. Then go to your "Start" menu, then to "Connect To", then select your Verizon, USCC (or whatever you named it) connection. In the next window, just click the "Dial" button and wait. It'll show dialing #777, and then after it registers you, BOOM BABY, you're on the internet using your razr as a modem!

Dial Up Networking on a PPC


This section relates to the Razr Phones provided by Verizon Wireless only.


If you have a Palm Pilot, Dell Axim, etc. that you want free internet on, the solution is finally here. Thanks to Trimax84 you can now have DUN on your handheld device! (Other than your RAZR)

But what does it cost?! Nothing but minutes my friend... nothing but minutes. So yes that does mean that if its after 9 or its a saturday (free nights and weekends) then technically, its 100% free weeee! Now tell me how much you love your Razr :)

How the hell? This procedure is called tethering. With Verizon's broadband service you are able to tether using EVDO, which is significantly faster then 1x. However, the Razr is not allowed/capable of tethering via EVDO and instead only works with 1x. Actually using the v3c / v3m for internet is not even a normally possible function with these Razr's however it leaves you to wonder, why would you want to disable such a killer feature? It seems to me like its just another Razr selling point, but who cares -- on to the guide.

For some saucy wireless internet you'll need:
* Motorola Razr V3M / V3C for Verizon
* USB Cable
* A laptop or other PC
* EVDO disabled (GUIDE)

A few notes before we begin...

* If EVDO is not disabled, this will not work
* Disable any shape or form of internet, including routers, wifi, and laptop built-in wifi
* A seem edit is required to make this work
* Being connected uses minutes only
* Arn't you excited?







Go razr internet, go razr internet, go!

    1. Make sure that EVDO is disabled! (GUIDE)

    2. Perform a seem edit that "Enables 1xRTT Settings and Service Type (QNC, Packet, Auto) - on"

    I don't have the advanced options with unencrypted passwords (PAP) and all that, but by using QPST the need for these was circumvented.

    7. Now make sure the phone is set to use the connection that you just set up! (Seems simple, right?)
    I was stuck here for the longest time. My phone would go from "Packet Data" to DORMANT and sit there, so I knew it was connected but no data was being transferred.

    Navigate to Settings --> Connections --> Advanced --> Select Networks (that is for WM5 on my Axim, yours could be different).
    Make sure "Programs that automatically connect to the Internet should connect using:" is set to the proper connection.

    My said ISP but I had to change it to "My Work Network" (default name given to the bluetooth connection).

    This may mess things up when trying to connect using WLAN, but just change this back and it should be fine.

    So there it is. Free (meaning free nights and weekends since minutes are charged) internet on my Dell Axim x51v from anywhere where I have Verizon service! I hope it was easy enough to follow. Hopefully it spares other people everything I had to deal with.

Get FREE WAP

This section relates to the Razr Phones provided by Verizon Wireless only.

What do you mean WAP isn't FREE?! Well.. usually in order to access the WAP or Wireless Web you need to call Verizon's customer service and pay a monthly fee for WAP access. If you have a messaging package though, often times wireless WAP is included. However, regardless, you will still be using minutes -- whether or not you use this FREE WAP modification or not.

What this modification does is changes the proxy that you use to actually access the WAP. When you use Verizon's proxy, which is default, you get charged for minutes usage AND for actual transfer of data (uploading/downloading). So in essence, by changing the proxy, you avoid paying the extra fee's for anything and everything you see on the WAP.

Also, it has been reported that using this FREE WAP modification also means that you -dont- have to sign up for access to the wireless web... thats right... that means that is only uses minutes... no monthly fee, no data charges, just minutes. And yes, that means that FREE nights and weekends means absolutely FREE WAP.

HOWEVER, around November 2007, Verizon Wireless changed their plan structure to offer their new Nationwide plans. What this changed was they now DO charge for data usage on these new plans. The charge is $1.99 for every megabyte sent and received. This means if you signed up with Verizon Wireless since November 2007, or have had your plan 'upgraded' to a Nationwide plan, you will get charged for data usage. It is rumored that you can get around this by signing up for the $15/mo VCast pak, but I'm not positive.

SO, what this means is that everywhere in this guide that mentions free and only uses minutes applies to you ONLY if you are still on one of Verizon Wireless's America's Choice plans. We are sorry for any inconvenience or misunderstanding.

How to get FREE WAP, the easy way

    *** REQUIRED FOR NEW RAZRS FROM VERIZON
    Razrs with the latest firmware from Verizon, or rather recently purchased Razrs, came with a new firmware that disable the WEB SESSION menu that is REQUIRED to use this guide. You MUST perform this seem edit in order to show the web session that is needed to get this hack to work.

    REQUIRED SEEM EDIT - Enable websessions= seem 2742, record 1, bytes 0000, offset 0018 bit 5

    1. Open your phone. Press #0SETUP* or #073887* -- QUICKLY -- If you pause while typing #0SETUP* in, it may not work. Also note that thats a ZERO [0] not an OH [O]

    2. "Enter Security Code:" should be on the screen - type 000000 which is SIX [6] ZERO's [000000] and then Press the right soft-key which is the top-right button, closest to the screen.

    3. Web sessions should be the first item in the list, and should be highlighted. Press the right soft-key for Select

    4. Scroll down to highlight [New Entry] and then press Select

    5. Here we will setup the new web session to in essence give us FREE WAP. Please note that all the entries you will be making can be done by first highlighting the field you want to change, and then simply begin typing your entry. You do not have to press anything to begin editing, but if you choose to, you can press the center main menu button.

    6. You must have previously registered at our Forum to have your own WAP account.

    8. Highlight your new websession and then press the center main menu button.
    You should now find yourself happily connecting to the official HTR FREE WAP proxy, with your very own WAP account. If you have any problems, please continue reading.

    Also note that if you want to setup multiple proxies and easily switch to a different web session, then press ##BROWSER (##2769737) to go directly to the web session menu. You cannot alter the username/password/port through this method.



    TROUBLESHOOTING

    For Wireless Internet Services, please dial *611.
    We are unsure why this happens, but it does sometimes, and the usual easy fix for it is to go back into the Web Sessions menu, select, activate, and actually use the REAL verizon wap proxy. Verify that you are able to connect with that. Then, open up Web Sessions and switch back to the HTR FREE WAP proxy, and it should work.

    "Network Connection Lost" message
    The server does restart as needed so that we can prevent the server from crashing and staying offline for extend periods of time. If you are actively browsing the WAP while our server restarts, you will get a "Network connection lost" message for about 10-15 seconds and then everything will go back to normal and you can continue right where you left off.

    "Authentication failed"
    Make sure that when you were entering your forum password into the websession that the first letter was NOT capital. Sometimes the razr, by default, makes the first letter of inputed passwords Capital. One method is inputing the same Lletter twice and then going back and deleting that letter.

    Also, sometimes if your password is too long or has funky characters in it, it might cause you to get locked out of the system. Simply try and change your password to something simpler and/or shorter just to test and see if that is the issue.

Hello from linux and dun

So I finally, after multiple different days of searching and trying, got my v3m, that's flashed to Alltel, to connect and dial up from linux (Ubuntu 7.10 specifically).

First off EVDO disabled like usual. And also you need the no pap thing that would let you use dun from a palm pilot or what not. This is because the dialing program ppp in linux does not let you specify security options and such as you can do with the winders dialer.

So follow this guide up to and including #4 http://www.hacktherazr.com/guides/verizon.dun.ppc.php.

At the terminal type: tail -f /var/log/messages
Then plug your phone into your computer, you should see something like this:

How to disable EVDO for a Verizon V3C / V3M

This section relates to the Razr Phones provided by Verizon Wireless only.

If you live in an area where your phone constantly switches back and forth between EVDO and 1X then its possible that it is draining the battery of your V3C faster then normal. Disabling EVDO on your Razr in this scenaro has been reported to indeed improve battery life. However, disabling EVDO on your phone renders you temporarily unable to view vCast. Temporarily because you can (with learning the routine) easily disable and enable EVDO at any time. The following is a guide on how to do, just that.

For this guide we will be using: * Motorola Razr V3C / V3M for Verizon * Programming Menu & test mode




How to disable EVDO for a Verizon V3C / V3M
    1. Open your phone. Press ##DEBUG aka ##33284 -- QUICKLY -- which is how you activate test mode, so that we can essentially disable EVDO

    Also take note that pressing ##DEBUG is how you DISABLE test mode as well. If you do not disable test mode, you will get the FTS screen at boot up and when you accidently do a CLR left soft-key.
    2. If you notice that the number 4 didnt get entered, thats a good thing, and means that when you pressed the 4 that TEST MODE was activated.

    If you see the last 4 entered in ##DEBUG aka ##33284 then you need to press end to clear the screen and type ##DEBUG again
    3. Now press the CLR button then the top left soft key. It should now display a full white screen that says FTS at the top.

    If it doesnt have a white background and say FTS, then press END and try CLR then left soft key one more time. If it still doesnt work, you need to press ##DEBUG again to activate test mode
    4. Press the right soft-key key *3 TIMES* or until you see at the top "ServOpt: NoChg" - "AudioOpt: Auto"
    5. Press the down key *8 TIMES* or until your see a > next to HDR Pref like so -- >HDR Pref: Auto
    Being set to auto means that the phone is looking for both EVDO and 1x reception, and that it will automatically choose EVDO over 1x, should EVDO coverage be available
    6. Press the right soft-key TWICE labeled CHANGE or until it says >HDR Pref: cdma
    This is telling the phone to disregard EVDO coverage and simply look for and connect to 1x coverage.
    There is no significant difference in the strength of reception when forcing your phone to look for 1x coverage. You will receive same, if not better reception, in areas where an EVDO connection is weak and essentially giving you poor coverage and poor battery life.
    7. Press the left soft-key ONCE labeled EXIT and it will flash white real quick, then appear to be frozen...
    8. Your phone is resetting. You will not be able to press for NEXT or PREV. You have to wait about 5-10 seconds until you CAN press the right or left soft-key for NEXT or PREV. The screens may cycle a couple different screens indicating that its ready.
    9. Press the CLR button and then press the left soft-key to get out of the programming menu.
    10. EVDO is officially disabled and capable of being re-enabled. However, test mode is still running in the background and we need to turn it off. We will go back to the programming menu.
    11. Press ##DEBUG or #33284 -- QUICKLY -- to disable test mode, make sure you do this, or you will get the white FTS screen.
    12. All Done! weeeeee! now you should experience longer battery life which makes everybody happy. Also notice that this process is easy enough to remember and do at any time. You can quickly re-enable EVDO to get faster WAP speeds and to use get it now and vcast... its all just a test mode away :)

The new and Improved Vivo Flash!

Here is my guide for getting your VZW V3m phone working on Verizon's network after flashing to Vivo. I think I have now ironed out the 'wrinkles' that it used to have. If your phone uses a MEID to register on the VZW network, DO NOT READ THIS GUIDE! It will not work for you. If your phone still uses an ESN to register on the VZW network but has been updated to the newer firmware version(s) 24_01.19.xx or above, STOP NOW AND DO NOT USE THIS GUIDE! If you do NOT know how to tell these differences, STOP NOW AND DO NOT READ/USE THIS GUIDE until you at least know the difference!
Mark Venture was kind enough to grant me permission to use/copy some of the information in his Vivo Monster 1 guide for use in my article here. I will deviate from his guide as I had better luck using different software than he has on his site.

Before I go on here, the latest version of this guide may be found here as I do this in my free time and trying to update this guide in both locations is above and beyond me.

First things first, some more disclaimers:

  1. PLEASE read this entire guide carefully before you attempt this. And then read it again, hell read it three times, then I would reccommend you print it out so you can check off the steps as you go.
  2. This guide is intended for folks want to use the Vivo software on their phone and use Verizon Wireless as their provider.
  3. THIS WILL VOID ANY WARRANTY you may still have on your phone and Verizon will NOT give you any support if they find out you have non-Verizon firmware on your phone.
  4. This process uses dangerous tools. One wrong click, getting in a hurry, or not following these steps exactly will probably give you a non-working phone. So, don't hold me responsible if you don't follow these steps correctly, please.
  5. Prior to using this guide, please make sure that everything DATA works while it is still on the Verizon firmware. DATA includes Mobile Web (WAP), Get it now (GIN), pix/flix messages (MMS). Also make sure that it is up-to-date as well. You can do this by dialing *22899 on your phone and waiting until it shows "Activation Successful". Failure to do this will probably mean failure to get DATA working in the end.
  6. Before you flash your phone, the best method to keep DATA working is to activate another EVDO phone on your account. You can do this by using the "on line ESN swapper" to activate another phone on your account. If you DO in fact have another EVDO phone to activate, make sure you power off the phone you want to flash before you continue.
    • To use the ESN switcher go, here and click the "Activate Equipment" link in the "Existing or Replacement Equipment" box.
    • You will then be asked to log in to your VZW account. After doing so, you will get the message box about entering an unsecure area, go ahead and click "Ok". And you may or may nat be asked for your home zip code.
    • Then you will be back at the same page where you started. Click the same link mentioned above again.
    • Then go ahead and enter the ESN for your 'spare' phone and give the reason in the "Reason for Change" drop down box as "Other" or "Received phone from other Source".
      • It has been said that you can 'cheat' here and just enter a fictitious ESN by bumping the last digit of your existing ESN up by one or two digits, but I didn't do this, so I can't guarantee your success.
    • After completing the process to switch to your spare phone, go ahead and dial *22899 on that (the other) phone to make sure it is fully activated on your account.
      • If you do not have another phone to activate, it has been suggested to make use of the 'Airplane Mode' RIGHT after you flash your phone to Vivo. This method worked for me very well, but I think it's because I live in a USCC 'partner' area and USCC does not really allow DATA services on their towers from Verizon phones. BUT even still, this method may still work for you, but I have no guarantees as my situation is as I stated. Using the Airplane Mode will be covered further along in this article.
  7. Finally, I took much care in writing this guide while trying to perform these steps as well on a 'spare' V3m so I could give a bit more detailed info. But since it was on my spare V3m that I never actually activated and therefore did NOT actually follow items five and six above, some things may or may not have worked a little differently for me while writing this guide, therefore I just went ahead and wrote what I think worked for me the last time I flashed. SO PLEASE CONSIDER THIS A WORK IN PROGRESS.

One note here before I continue. I will ask you to "power cycle" your phone several times. This simply involves turning your phone off for a few seconds and then turning it back on.

Now to the required software list. Now, at this time I will not include the steps you need to use to get this software working on your phone as I see that it would make this already long article into about 20-30 pages. So, I will assume you already know how to use this software or you can read my articles about getting all this software working here on my site. The links to the guides to getting this software working on your phone are in my "Required Drivers/Software" and "Flashing" categories easily accessed by clicking on the menu to the left. Here is the list, and in the future I might make each item 'clickable' so you can download these software items as well. The last two items (#9 & #10) in my list will have downloads so make sure you click on those links and follow the instructions there as they will give you some files that will be nessessary for completion of this process.

So, the REQUIRED software list:

  1. Motorola USB Handset Drivers.
  2. RSD CDMA General 5.1.6. Or what ever version that works best for you, mine is 5.1.6.
  3. P2K Seem editor.
  4. P2K Commander. My site has version 4.9.E
  5. QPST. The only version that works for this phone and flash, 2.7 build 215 is the only one you'll find linked in the guide at my site.
  6. RadioComm. As above, the only version you'll find linked at my site is the one you'll need for this phone/flash. Please read my article about it.
  7. RSD Lite. This is the actual flashing software. I used the heck out of it with another phone the other day, no probs.
  8. Bitpim. Mark's guide suggests you use this for some of your backups, but I never needed them. You are welcome to use it, just in case.
  9. Here is the actual flash file, and this other file that you'll need later in the guide, as it contains the scripts and files you'll use with P2KCommander later during the restore process. The second one is what Mark's guide refers to as VIVO V3M System Files. MAKE sure you do click and download these. I suggest downloading them to your desktop. After downloading these files, click (or double click) them and just hit the "Install" button and they will self-extract to a folder within the location to where you downloaded them.
  10. Finally, (I almost forgot) you'll want the MonsterSeems file that you'll use during the RadioComm backup of your seem files. You WILL need to right click that link and select "Save Target As" to make sure it doesn't get a .txt appended to the end of it.

Step One, REQUIRED BACKUPS:

1a). Plug in your phone, then fire up the QPST Configuration program. Make sure you select the port that shows your phone (SURF 6500- etc.) then use the "Start Clients" pull down menu. Select "SERVICE PROGRAMMING". At the phone selection screen, make sure your phone is listed and highlighted, click the "OK" button. Then click the "Read from Phone" button. On the enter "Service Programming Code" window, it will ask you to enter your phone's service programming code. It should already be defaulted to "000000", click OK. The only reason this code might be different is if you have changed this code. When the read is complete, and you see the values filled in, click the "Save to File" button. The file name box will automatically fill in your phone's ESN # followed by _sp. Click the "Save" button. Save it somewhere where you'll remember where it is. You may now click the red 'x' buttons to exit this program.

1b). Unplug your phone from your PC and power cycle it. Now fire up RSD CDMA General. This is my biggest departure from Mark's guide. I think that PST stands for Piece of Shit and Troublesome. Not only that, but from my experience and others, nobody knows when PST is actually connected and/or REALLY reading the nessessary files from your phone. Anyways, don't plug in your phone until RSD CDMA General asks you to do so. After a bit, your ESN will be shown in the upper window. Then click on the ICON for "Phone Provisioning". I may take a while before the program responds. There will be a message in the lower window saying, "Incorrect Matrix File Provided. Carrier Default Values Loaded". This is normal. In the "SETTINGS" window to the left (but not the far left), there will be a list of check boxes and links. Check the following check boxes:

  1. CDMA NAM
  2. PRL
  3. Browser
  4. ERI
  5. BREW
  6. CDMA 1X GPS
  7. EVDO
  8. Feature Setting
  9. Mobile IP
  10. RTT Data
  11. MMS Setting
  12. Phonebook (Just for kicks), you might even check Datebook if you want, either of these aren't totally nessessary.

Once you've checked these boxes, go ahead and click the "Read Phone" button. The lower window will say "Provisioning Operation Started" and you'll see several progress bars. This process will take a while, and during the process your phone will restart once or twice, involving some USB 'beeps' and some 'clicking' sounds as well. JUST BE PATIENT, please. Now all these files might not be nessessary, but WTF, it's better to have more than not enough.

When RSD CDMA General is done, you will have a message in the lower window stating "Provisioning has successfully read from phone" and the main window will have "CDMA NAM" as the heading. Make a note of your "Mobile Identification Number (7 digits)[aka MIN]" and then scroll down a bit to your "Mobile Directory Number (Phone Number[aka MDN])" and write both of these values down as you may need these later in the guide. Now at this point, go to the little window to the left of the main window and click the link for the first item, "CDMA NAM". Then click the box, "Save File" and save it where you will remember it's location later. It should have an extension of .nam. The lower window should give you a message "Provisioning has successfully saved the file". Go ahead and go on down the above list, first clicking on the link next to the check box, waiting for a moment or two, then clicking on the "Save File" box. Here is the list again (from #2 on down), just make sure the extensions are correct:

  1. PRL = .rla
  2. Browser = .rtb If you have already added other WAP proxies before, you may have to go through and change each one in "User type" to "Factory stored" in the drop down list there, otherwise this file will not save successfully.
  3. ERI = .eri2
  4. BREW = .brw
  5. CDMA 1X GPS = .gps Not sure if this file is required, but, WTF.
  6. EVDO = .edo This is another one file that I haven't explored yet, but again nice to have, just in case.
  7. Feature Setting = .ftr This one may give you a message in red in the main window, just go ahead and save it, but don't edit it.
  8. Mobile IP = .mip
  9. RTT Data = .rtd
  10. MMS Setting = .mms MAKE SURE that this extension is correct. Once I didn't pay attention and it got a .vms extension and was useless in the restore process. BUT I may have found a 'workaround' to this, more may be revealed. . .
  11. Phonebook = .csv Now, of course this is just your phonebook, so it's not required for a successful flash, but if you hadn't saved your contacts yet, now you have.
  12. Finally just make a mental note of the "Multiple Loading" link. I am not sure this will come in handy for this flash, but . . . .

OK, now it's ok to exit this program and continue on. Unplug your phone from your PC and power cycle it before the next step.

1c). Use RadioComm to backup your seems. Make sure you have already correctly downloaded the MonsterSeems.NVM file in part 10 of my required software list. If not, then right click the above linke and use the "Save Target As" option to make sure it doesn't get a different extension appended to it. Plug in your phone first and then fire up RadioComm. When prompted about the Moto Driver Installation setup, click CANCEL. Do NOT run the Moto Driver Installation! You may also get a message about how old your RadioComm is, just click "OK" here as well. I don't know why, but this is what I saw, it's a bit different than Mark's guide as well and your results may vary:

  1. Then you may have a small RadioComm window. Chose the first (or top) drop down list where it says "Select MA to use" and drop down to the "CDMA 1X 6500 Chipset Base". In the second drop down list, select "M-Link USB Driver". Then the main window will open.
  2. In this bigger main window, use the "Main" pulldown menu (the one on the top left) and verify that the checks are set correctly as indicated above. "Main -> MA -> CDMA1X -> 6500 Chipset Base".
  3. Now go to the "Settings" menu drop down list and make sure the checks are set thusly: "Settings -> USB -> M-Link USB Driver".
  4. In the main RadioComm window there will be many tabs. Click on the "P2K 1" tab. The PC should 'beep' and the Radio Detection (in the far right) should change to a round green circle.
  5. Use the "Features" (pull down) menu and select "NV / SEEM". A new window will open, the title of which will be, "RC SEEM".
  6. To the right will be a few boxes, the one you want will be under "Table" and the box you want to click will be "Open". You will then be presented with the usual Windows "Browse for File" window and at this point look for the Monster Seems-1c.NVM file that you have saved.
  7. Now under the "Action" box, click on the "Read" button. You will see a progress bar and when it's done, then go back up to the "Table" section and click on the "Save" button. You will again be presented with a Windows box with the title of "Save to File". Save it. The file name will default to your ESN with an extension of .NVM. You may now exit this program. Unplug your phone, and perform a power cycle again. This time it may not go as easily, and you may have to remove your battery and power your phone back on.

There is a table of the seems that this process backs up, but I won't include it here for now. Also, some people prefer to backup their seems manually using P2K Seem, but again, I will not include this process here either, for now.

Step Two, Flash your PHONE's FIRMWARE:

IF YOU HAD ANY ERRORS whatsoever DURING THE BACKUP FROCESS IN STEP ONE, STOP NOW. DO NOT FLASH YOUR PHONE!

2a). MAKE SURE YOUR PHONE's BATTERY IS FULLY CHARGED BEFORE YOU DO THIS STEP! ALSO, remove your Transflash card if you have one BEFORE you flash. Failure to do so will keep your phone in USB Mass Storage mode. So, you've already got the Vivo flash file from my required software list, item # 9 and followed the instructions for extracting it.

  1. Go ahead and disconnect your phone, power cycle it, and then plug it back in. Now go ahead and fire up RSD Lite. If this is your first time doing so, RSD Lite may install some more drivers, go ahead and wait until this is done.
  2. Your phone should show up as "Connected" under the "Status" tab of the bottom window. Just to the left of that it should show your phone's ESN. Near the top should be a box showing "Filename" and to the left of that will be a little box with "...". Click on that box and browse to where you have saved the flash file that you have already "Installed" (i.e. extracted) and should have an .shx extension on it.
  3. Once you click on that file, RSD Lite will fill in the "File Properties" box with the info of your Vivo flash you selected.
  4. Just to the right, there will be a box, "Start". Click on that. If this is your first time using RSD Lite, another driver may install, "Flashing Interface". It should auto-install, but sometime later I will give the location for installation, just in case. Be very patient in this part as it will take a while.
  5. You will see a few different progress bars, and when the flashing process is complete the status column in the lower portion may state either "Phone is being rebooted" and under the "Progress" column it will show "Executed: 100%" and/or under the "Progress" column it may say "Please Manually Power up this Phone".
  6. Either way, if your phone itself is showing that it's charging (Recarreg. Bateria), go ahead and disconnect the phone from your PC. Then go ahead and quit RSD Lite. You may get a warning message about damaging your phone, it's OK, you've already disconnected it, right? Go ahead and power your phone up, when you do, you may get a message, "Requer Ativacao", please just press the center menu button.

2b). Now, the last part of the flashing process is to perform a Master Reset/Master Clear. The menus will be in Portugese, so here's the sequence (I've included the keypad shortcuts for your convenience):

  1. menu (center button) -> Mais (#9) -> Configuracoes (#3) -> Config Inicial (#7) -> Master Reset will be the next to last option in this menu. When prompted for Dig Codigo Segur, enter 000000 and press the left soft key twice. That's Master Reset, if or when you get the "Requer Ativacao" message again, press the center menu button.
  2. menu (center button) -> Mais (#9) -> Configuracoes (#3) -> Config Inicial (#7) -> Master Clear will be the last option in this menu. When prompted for Dig Cidigo Segur, enter 000000 and press the left soft key twice. That's Master Clear, again if you get the "Requer Ativacao" message, press the center menu button.

2c). Since we're in America let's get this bad boy to speak English and also get it back to the right mode for the rest of this stuff (again I've got the keypad shortcuts listed):

  1. menu (center button) -> Mais (#9) -> Configuracoes (#3) -> Config Inicial (#7) -> select the "Idioma" option. Then select the "English" option. This will get it where you can understand it.
  2. menu (center button) -> More (#9) -> Settings (#3) -> Connection (#0) -> USB Settings (#3). Change it to Modem/Com.

2d). The Airplane Mode Option. Finally, if you didn't have another phone to activate on your account you should switch to Airplane Mode now as well, again no guarantees that it will be totally as sucessfull as activating another phone.

  • menu (center button) -> Tools (#7) -> Airplane Mode (#5). Change Airplane Mode to On.

 

Step Three - RESTORING BACKUPS:

3a). First, as a precaution you'll want to backup your Vivo 2742 seem. Power cycle your phone (but if it says, "Activation Required" hit the center menu key first) and fire up RSD CDMA General. When it prompts you to plug in your phone do so. When it shows your ESN (and new Vivo software WhooHoo!) go ahead and minimize it, then fire up P2KSeem.

  1. In P2KSeem, enter these values: bytes 0000, Seem 2742, Record 0001, and click the "Load from Phone" button.
  2. Once it's done, then hit the "Save to File" button and save it where you'll remember it later, just in case.
  3. Now exit P2KSeem and RSD CDMA General. Unplug your phone from your PC and power cycle it.

3b). Use RadioComm to restore your seems. Plug in your phone and fire up RadioComm. Again if prompted about the Moto Driver Installation setup, click CANCEL, do not run the setup.

  1. Again either in the little window or the main window make sure the following is set:
  2. Using the "Main" drop down menu, select MA -> CDMA1X -> 6500 Chipset base.
  3. In the Settings menu, select USB -> M-Link USB Driver.
  4. In the main RadioComm window, click on the P2K1 tab. The PC should 'beep' and the Radio Detection on the right should change to a green circle.
  5. Use the "Features" pull down menu and select NV/Seem.
  6. In the new window under Table, click the "Open" button. Browse to your 'ESN'.NVM file that you created in the backup step, select it, and click OK.
  7. Then under the Action box, click the "Write" button. When the write has completed, go ahead and close the seem window and then exit out of RadioComm.

RadioComm will leave the phone in the correct mode for P2KSeem to connect even though you've exited it, so don't unplug, nor power cycle your phone to do the following seem edits:

3c). Fire up P2KSeem and enter the following values: bytes 0000, Seem 2742, record 0001. then click the "Load from Phone" button. Then click "Load from File" button and browse to your saved 2742 seem from step 3a above. Also, please note that the descriptions for the bits shown below will probably NOT always match what you will see in P2KSeem. Also, some of these bits may or may not be set, but just 'make sure'.

MANDATORY:

  • Offset 0042, Bit 5 - checked, to allow loading of the ERI file (this was for using PST, but do it anyway, it still applies)
  • Offset 006f, bit 1 - checked, to allow VZ Nav GPS to function
  • Offset 0052, bit 2 - unchecked
  • Offset 005a, bit 7 - checked, to enable editing the NVM file with QPST
  • Offset 0062, bit 2 & 5 - checked, to enable MMS Delivery Notification Menu and to enable editing of PIX servers
  • Offset 006a, bit 3 - checked, to enable the Menu -> Security -> Data Connection
  • Offset 0073, bit 5 & 7 - unchecked
  • Offset 0094, bit 7 - unchecked
  • Offset 0023, bit 7 - checked, enables Settings -> Network -> Set Mode -> Scan A
  • Offset 0024, bits 0 & 1 - checked, enables more essential 'network' settings
  • Offset 0028, bits 2 & 3 - checked, again, more essential 'network' settings
  • Offset 002d, bit 0 - checked, enables Force automatic A
  • Offset 0058, bit 2 - unchecked

OPTIONAL:

  • Offset 0074, bit 5 - checked, Solve problem of not downloading MMS messages that some may experience
  • Offset 000c, bit 1 - checked, enalbes scrolling through missed calls with flip closed
  • Offset 004b, bit 0 - checked, to change GPS icon indicator to crosshair instead of satelite
  • Offset 0074, bit 7 - checked, changes digital indicator icon from D to 1X
  • Offset 007a, bit 1 - unchecked, switches right and left soft key choices
  • Offset 008d, bit 6 - checked, adds "Time and Date" and "Auto Redial" menus to Settings -> Initial Setup
  • Offset 001d, bit 3 - check, Motorola Animation on Startup
  • Offset 0024, bit 2 - uncheck, voice mail on #1 speed dial
  • Offset 0031, bit 1 - uncheck, Motorola animation on shutdown = OFF
  • Offset 0088, bit 4 - uncheck for EV indicator, checked for 3g
  • There is a grip of more optional seem edits that you may want to do, most of them are @ HackTheRazr.com in the "Post Vivo Flash" thread in the forums there. I will go ahead in time and list them and the many others I have found, but for now I'll just link to that thread for now.

When you are done with the mandatory seem edits and whatever optional ones you want to do, click the "Save to Phone" button, quit P2KSeem, unplug your phone from your PC, and power cycle your phone. Now since we were using the state that RadioComm left it in, it may flash and actually need to be restarted again. And if your phone shows "Activation Required", hit the center button again.

3d). Fix Potential MMS Problem. Some users will find that their MDN and MIN do not match. This could cause potential problems sending/receiving MMS messages (pix/flix). Fire up RSD CDMA General again. When prompted, plug in your phone. Once it displays your ESN in the upper window, minimize it, then fire up P2KSeem. Enter these values, bytes 0000, seem 275a, record 0001, then click "Load from Phone" button. Then BEFORE you do any edits, click the "Save to file" button, just in case. Locate offset 0162. To do this, use the scrollbar in the main window of P2KSeem until you find line 000160 then go to the right three spaces until the offset shows 0162. Go ahead and uncheck all the bits at this offset, then click the "Save to Phone" button and then the "Restart Phone" button. If your MDN and MIN are the same, you can make this edit without impacting anything. Go aheand and quit P2KSeem, but leave RSD CDMA General running for the next step.

Step four, using RSD CDMA General to restore your backups:

Now, let's restore some files using RSD CDMA General. Mind you, I am not going to have you restore ALL the files previously saved at this time, so PLEASE follow these instructions. In this step we will only restore four files for now. Go ahead and maximize (or restore) your RSD CDMA General window. Click on the Phone Provisioning icon (the one that looks like a cell tower), and wait a bit. Do not worry about the "Incorrect Matrix File provided. Carrier Default Values Loaded" message in the lower window. THIS IS NORMAL. For the restoring process you don't use the check boxes in the list to the left of the main window, just the links (or words). Also, between each save (or restore) RSD CDMA General may restart your phone, this is normal, and just be patient.

  1. BREW file. Click on the 'link' for "BREW". The main window will show "BREW" at the top, but none of the values will be filled in. Click the "Open File" button and browse to your saved .brw file and click "OK". You will now see the values filled in and now go ahead and click the "Write Phone" button. You'll see the progess bar and then RSD CDMA General will restart your phone and your PC will 'beep' a few times.
  2. ERI file. Click on the "ERI" link, click the "Open File" button and browse to your saved .eri2 file and click "OK". Again, click on the "Write Phone" button.
  3. MMS Setting File. Again follow the same instructions above to browse to your .mms file. BUT before you click the "Write Phone" button, scroll down in the main window to the "Album Upload Address" window and change the value to "your 10 digit #"@pix.vtext.com.

IF FOR SOME REASON your MMS Setting file was saved with a .vms extension, you wil NOT find it and if you tried changing the extension from .vms to .mms, it still won't work correctly. BUT, all is not lost, here may be the workaround:

  • After clicking on the WORDS (NOT THE CHECK BOX NEXT TO) for your "MMS Setting file" click the "Read Phone" Button and wait until the read process is done. Your phone may be re-booted by RSD during this.
  • Then in the main window, it will say "CDMA MMS" and you will need to manually enter the following values under "Primary Server Info":
    • Service Name = VZW
    • Server Name = http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms
    • Session Name = VZW_MMS
  • Leave the "Secondary Server Info" fields alone, since they really should be pretty much blank and scroll down to the next portion of the window. Here, I hope we don't have to change much, because there are two columns of info here, so I will go from left to right like a book and I really don't know how much these values will affect the functionality as they are 'drop down' options that can probably also be set from within the phone's menus or with a few seem edits most times, but here is what I have:
    • Reply type = PIX
    • Max Message Size = 358400 (but this is 'greyed' out for me and cannot be changed).
    • Max Slides in SMIL = 0 ( again, this may be something to be changed later with an optional seem edit, but dbl check it for now)
    • Retry Number = 3
    • National Agent = +55 (no, that's not my age, yet)
    • For the rest, just make sure the "Feature Availability" checkbox is checked and the rest of the checkboxes are not.
  • Now again scroll down to the bottom portion of the main window and again enter and/or double check the following values:
    • Album Upload Address = "your 10 digit #"@pix.vtext.com
    • UAPROF URL = profile: http://uaprof.vtext.com/mot/v3/v3v1.xml
    • User Agent = user-agent: motov3
    • HTTP HEADER = x-vzw-mdn:
  • In general, the only value that should have to be edited above is the "Album Upload Address". The rest should be OK.
  • Now click on the "Write Phone" button. Again, RSD may reboot your phone after writing this file to your phone.
  1. RTT Data file. Lastly, at least for this step browse to your saved .rtd file and follow the same instructions for "Write Phone" as above. You should not have to edit this file.

 

Step Five, Using QPST to restore service programming:

Unplug your phone from the PC, 'power cycle' it, then plug it back in to your PC. Fire up QPST Configuration. Make sure you phone is displayed, and/or select the port showing your phone, then use the "Start Clients" pull down menu. Select "Service Programming". In the new window, you phone should be listed and highlighted. Click the "OK" button. Then click the "Load from File.." button, and browse to you saved .qcn file and click it. Then click the "Write to Phone" button, in the next window enter your phone Service Programming Code (SPC), it should be all zero's, i.e. 000000, unless you've changed it already, click, "OK". When the write is complete, your phone may restart, wait a bit, then use the "Connection" menu, pull down to "Exit", when prompted to save the 'changed' .qcn file, click "No", then exit the program. Unplug your phone from your PC and 'power cycle' it.

 

Step Six, Overwrite some files to give you some more familiar Icons:

NOTE: It has been suggested that you exit ALL other programs your PC may be running before using P2K Commander for this next process.

  1. Fire up RSD CDMA General. Wait until it tells you to plug in your phone. Once it has your ESN shown, go ahead and minimize it.
  2. Then fire up P2K Commander. Then browse to the folder into which you saved the 'system.p2kc' file in number 9 of my required software list way back at the beginning of this guide. Click (or double click) on that file and in the next window where it says "P2KCommander : execute p2kc batch file", click the "Execute" button.
  3. When I did this on my 'test' phone, it was late, so I didn't notice a progress bar and I didn't notice if P2K Commander did anything beside give me the winodw saying something like, "With this version of P2K Commander you can now do other stuff. . ." or something like that. The important thing was that the files did 'take'. When I actually activate and flash my 'test' phone I'll go back through this whole guide again to double check stuff.
  4. But, for kicks, if you want to do them one at a time, 'just in case', here are the files included in the folder, and the path where you want to put them on the phone:
    • /a/motorola/system/alltel_axcess_mm_a_41x41_c.gif
    • /a/motorola/system/alltel_axcess_mm_s_33x33_c.gif
    • /a/motorola/system/alltel_axcess_mm_s_15x15_c.gif
    • /a/motorola/sytem/mma_ucp
    • /a/motorola/sytem/mma_dcp
    • /a/brew/mod/brewappmgr/alltelappmgr.bar
    • /a/dmu/10.key

Now go ahead and quit P2K Commander (which ever method you used), quit RSD CDMA General, and power cycle your phone.

 

Step Seven, Restore and edit your 'Browser' file:

7a). Fire up RSD CDMA General again, then plug your phone is when prompted. Again, when your ESN is displayed, click on the tower above "Phone Provisioning".

  1. Click on the word "Browser" in the window just to the left of the main window. Then click on the "Open File" button and browse to your previously saved .rtb file.
  2. Scroll down through the main window (under Proxy 1) and in the User ID space, where it may have %m, change that to your phone number, including area code.
  3. NOTE: Some have had to use their 10 digit MDN or MIN as written down earlier, but I did not.
  4. You should be able to leave the other fields untouched, but just for kicks make sure they have these values:
    • Primary Gateway URL=gw.vzwwap.com, Secondary Gateway URL=gw1.vzwwap.com
    • Port under both Primary and Secondary=8080
    • E2E Port under both=8080
    • LXL Port under both=443

7b). IMPORTANT FOR MMS (pix/flix):

  1. Scroll down further to the Proxy 2 portion of the main window.
  2. "Proxy name" should = VZW_MMS
  3. "User type" should = "Factory Stored" i.e. use the drop down menu here to select that, this is important.
  4. "User ID" should = your 10 digit #.
  5. "Password" = vzw
  6. "Homepage" = http://homepage
  7. Cache startup is OK at "OFF" and "Proxy authentication" is OK at "NONE"
  8. Scrolling a little further down under "Primary" and "Gateway URL", enter mms.vtext.com. You can leave the "Secondary" column alone.
  9. In the "Port" box enter 80. The other port boxes can be left alone, however when you click away from there, you will probably get a message box saying "Enter between 4 and 5 characters." Just click the "OK" button.
    • If you are comfortable with how RSD CDMA General allows you to edit your browser file and you have other personal 'free' WAP proxies to enter, go ahead and scroll down to Proxy 3, etc. and enter them. My only suggestion is that you make sure you select that drop down list to indicate "Factory Stored", that way they may survive a "Browser Reset" on your phone.
  10. When you're done, click the "Write Phone" button. You should see a progress bar for a second and a message saying "Successfully programmed CDMA Browser 6.x into the phone". Then RSD will restart your phone. When it's done quit RSD CDMA Gen and unplug your phone from your PC.

7c). Now to finish your MMS settings:

  1. On the phone, go to Messages, press the Options soft key.
  2. From the list, select Inbox Setup.
  3. Select MMS Setup.
  4. Highlight Server Info and press the Change soft key.
  5. On the "Current Server" screen, press the Option soft key.
  6. At the Server Info screen, select Edit.
  7. Verify the server name and Web Session Name match these values:
    • Service Name = VZW
    • Server Name = http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms
    • Web Session = VZW_MMS
  8. Exit out of all that, and go back to your Main Mune -> Settings -> Security -> Data Connection. Password is 000000.
  9. On 1XRTTT Data, use the Change soft key and verify that your settings are as follows:
    • User Name = (your 10 digit phone #)@vzw3g.com
    • Password = vzw
  10. Hit done, and/or exit all the way out.

 

Step Eight, Change the phone's default Network mode:

On the phone, go to Menu -> Settings -> Network -> and go to the "Set Mode" option and make sure it is set to "Automatic B". If it is not, or if you can't change it to this setting, verify ALL the seem edits in section 3c under MANDATORY to make sure you either did them or they stuck. Now, due to the use of QPST and RSD CDMA General for your backups, this option should already be correct, BUT you do want to verify it, because we're pretty much done! WHEW!!

 

Step Nine, Re-Activate your phone on Verizon Wireless (finally!):

Log into your account at Verizon Wireless and use the ESN swapper to switch back to your newly flashed (to Vivo) phone. Now, if you chose to use "Airplane Mode" instead of the 'ESN Swapper', now is the time to turn Airplane Mode off. Dial *228 and select option '1', wait for your phone to show "Activation Successfull", then go ahead and power cycle your phone and then dial *228 and select option '2'. You might be able to do all this by dialing *22899, but we'll go the long way around the barn this time.

Step Ten, Fixing the vCast video option (or video audio problems?):

Sometimes, or "in the past, to restore the vCast video icon to the phone, we used P2K Commander scripts or manually restored files hacked out of a former flash file. These files didn't work for all phones . . . . and when they did the result was no audio."

So, instead, on your phone, open Get-it-Now -> Downloads -> Catalog. Look under "Featured Apps" to find VCast. Then just download the update, it's free, and then you'll have your audio working for any videos, whether vCast, or your own.

My own personal final notes:

This is a lobor of love for hacking my pre-MEID "hackablest" Razr V3m from Verizon Wireless to flash it to the Vivo Software. As I mentioned in my step 3c above there are a grip of other optional seem edits to further 'fine tune' this f/w for your enjoyment (or at least, mine), as well as to 'knock' out a couple of minor 'bugs'. That said, later, I will include those seem edits in that section. As you can see, my step numbers don't quite match Mark's Vivo Monster 1 guide, but I took great pains using my other comp and my other phone to be able to point to the right buttons, settings, and sequences for success for using my guide.

Finally, MAJOR kudos go out to Mark Venture, pyde_pypper (Aixelsid), styol, kbman, goldmember, spikejones, listenman20, Mopar Sarah, and so many others I can't remember them all for their help and/or posts to get me to the point where I felt I had the tools and knowledge to write this guide.

p.s. Don't try writing a guide this extensive at home, leave it to the double 00 NooBs, because trying to do it right is very time consuming and may be hazardous to your mental health.

Flashing your phone in General

This guide is for general flashing of your V3c/V3m phone. This process probably works on most Moto phones, but my only experience so far is with the V3m. It is NOT intended for flashing your phone to a different carriers firmware and/or trying to get it to work on your current carriers network. This guide is just for the flashing process itself and ONLY for flashing your phone as outlined below. ALSO, let it be known that flashing your phone is ONLY for more ADVANCED users who already have a basic idea of which phone and f/w you actually have. If you are not even sure what firmware came stock on your phone, STOP, DO NOT USE THIS GUIDE until you have done enough research to know the basics about your phone. If your V3m is from Verizon and it uses a MEID to register on VZW's network, or has the newer firmware version starting with 24.1_, STOP AND DO NOT USE THIS GUIDE!! It is ONLY intended for use in the following conditions:
  1. Restoring your original software version to your phone in case you REALLY screwed up doing some sort of seem edit(s) incorrectly.
  2. The original software version to your phone in case you had a flash to a different carrier's f/w go bad.
  3. If you want to try to use your V3m on a different carrier for which the MONSTER flash file has been leaked.

So, I hope I have made this clear. AGAIN, this is only intended as a 'generic' process to flash your phone, and that being said, here is the only software you will need for this guide:

  1. The USB drivers for your phone.
  2. RSD Lite 4.3
  3. The PROPER flash file that you need for this process. No links here, because YOU will HAVE to know what flash file you need/want to do to use this guide.
  4. I will assume that you've already installed this software, so I will not elaborate on their prospective install processes.

One little note about the flash file. Depending on where you obtained it, it may have been compressed one way or another, so BEFORE you proceed, make sure you have the extracted it, if needed, and that it has the .shx extension on it.

Finally, make SURE your phone's battery is fully charged before you proceed, as the phone will not be charging while it is being flashed. ALSO, remove any Micro SD or Transflash card from your phone BEFORE flashing.

OK, the process:

  1. Plug in your phone and then fire up RSD Lite 4.3. If this is the first time running RSD Lite, you may get a few 'new hardware found' messages. Wait until your phone is shown as "Connected" in the lower window.
  2. Then to the right of the box at the top that says "Filename", click the "..." button and browse to the .shx file you want to use.
  3. After the "File Properties" box fills in with the info about your flash file, go ahead and click the "Start" button. Again, if this is your first time, another "Found new Hardware" baloon may pop up about "Flash Interface", but then it will continue to flash your phone.
  4. Wait. This takes about 10-15 minutes. You will see a few different processes under the "Status" tab while your phone is being flashed and under the "Progress" tab it will show the progress.
  5. When it's done, your comp and phone will 'beep' a few times while the "Status" tab shows "Phone is being rebooted". Sometimes it may go ahead and say "Please manually power up this phone", but some times (in my experience) it will not.
  6. Either way, when it says under the "Progress" tab, "Executed: 100%" and the screen on your phone says "Charging Battery", it is safe to unplug your phone from your computer. So go ahead and do so. Then go ahead and exit out of RSD Lite. You will get a window titled, "SDL" with a warning about "Application is currently busy. Closing . . . may DAMAGE the attached device, etc." It is OK to click the "Yes" button. After all, you HAVE already unplugged your phone, right?
  7. Congrats, you've flashed your phone.

Now all you have to do is navigate through the menu system on your phone and perform a "Master Reset" and a "Master Clear" in THAT order. Since this guide is 'generic' there are too many ways to find these options, but basically, find where ever the "Initial Settings" or "Initial Setup" menu is on your phone and that is where you will find these options.

When you find the "Master Reset" option, you will be asked for your phone's "Security Code" or SPC. You should be able to just enter '000000' (or six zero's). When asked whether to proceed, chose the "Yes" or "OK" button. Your phone will 'flicker' a bit while it goes through a 'soft re-boot'. Then when it's done go ahead and do the same steps for the "Master Clear".

How to convert a Verizon vzw V3m to US Cellular USCC (Anonymous USCC tech)

I do work for USCC. Many years, love my job, love my company, love my phone. I consider this hack to be both legal and ethical. You bought the phone, you should be able to do whatever you want with it. By blocking things on your phone the company is in a way stealing your features. USCC does not manually block anything on any phone unless it does not work with the network. Here's the way to do it that will work. I spent three days getting everything together and read a novel worth of blogs. I wanted to make it step by step simple and easy.

1. Download this https://rsddownload.motorola.com/download/Motorola_Software_Update.exe
This doesn't really do anything at all except load up. You want to run this until you see the phone's serial number on the left. Then just minimize it and forget it's on

Perform a seem edit to enable file transfers. The Seem Editor is sectioned into three main interface groupings: the seem location, hexadecimal grid, and bit switches. To use the seem editor, values are manually entered into the seem location area in the bottom right corner of the window. This will provide search criteria when the "Load from phone" button is clicked. Upon a successful read, hexadecimal data will appear in the top left corner of the window. Clicking on any byte will show the appropriate data in the bit switching area at the bottom left corner of the window.

Load the p2k Seem Editor.
Enter 2742 into the "Seem" text box of the "Load" group.
Leave the "Record" text box of the "Load" group at the default value of 1 or 0001.
Enter 0000 into the "Bytes (h)" text box.
Click on the "Load from phone" button.
Rows of hexadecimal values should appear in the upper left corner. If you received a connection error, close the Seem Editor and reset the connection with PST by creating a new phone book, then load phone's data into the new phone book.
Locate the row designed by the number 000060.
Click on the 11th column of dual digit hexadecimal values on this row. The "Offset" will read 006a in the "Selected byte details" group. Alternatively, click on the first column of row 000060 and use your keyboard's arrow keys to navigate right until "Offset" reads 006a.
"Bit 0" in the "Selected byte details" group should have a comment next to it: "Bluetooth Or USB file transfer...". Put a check next to "Bit 0" (comment's suffix will change to "on"), and a check next to "Bit 1".
Double-check your bit changes and an offset value still showing 006a. Verify that the "Save" group and "Load" group check boxes' values match. Ignore the text alignment of the text box contents.
Click on the "Save to phone" button.
Click on the "Yes" button.

Then download RSD Lite. The other RSD programs aren't the same. Get it from the mickey mouse folder. You'll find that one yourself. In that folder also download the USCC monster flash file. NOw just open RSD lite, you'll see the phone on there now and then just open the flash file. Put it over on the phone, and the phone will flash perfectly. It will not work or *228 prl update won't work until it's programmed with an active min and ctn. USCC does have protection software to try to keep these phones from working. Just copy the min and ctn from a currently active phone, update the prl with *228, and voila. You have a USCC phone.

I know this has been covered a gazillion times, but it wasn't all together for this specific procedure. I downloaded every program under the sun and could not find anything at all that worked or how to even use the programs online. This way will save some folks a lot of time.

How to use BitPim to add a ringtone to your v3m/v3c phone. w/ walk through video

First things first

This method can NOT be used on a newer firmware verizon razr v3m phone (ex. 24.1_01.19.xx). These newer firmwares have the ringtones stored in an alternate location than where the application is designed to put the ringtones at. Furthermore, you will want to use the v3cm module only when doing this method.

The Method

  1. connect the phone to the computer
  2. start bitpim
  3. expand the "media" section in the tree structure on the left
  4. click on the "ringer" item that now appears
  5. click on the "add ringer button" (musical note with a plus sign).
  6. Select your file and click ok
  7. A converter application will open which you can use to trim the file down to proper length (30 seconds)
  8. Convert and clip your file, choosing the portion you want to use and click "ok"
  9. the file will now appear in the right side window
  10. click the "send phone data" button (arrow pointing towards the phone)
  11. put a check mark next to "ringtone" and select the option to "add"
  12. click okay
  13. the phone will now read the ringer database and update it accordingly.
  14. next, the phone will transfer your ringer to the phone
  15. you now have a new ringtone on your phone.

Notes

To bypass the audio converter, simply hold the "Shift" button on the keyboard while you click the "add ringer" button (Shift+click). This way you do not have to convert a file that is already ready to use. There is no need to delete the mytonedb.db file when doing this method, nor do you need to powercycle the phone. Simply disconnect the phone from the computer and look at your ringer list... you will now see the file in the list and you are able to select it as a ringtone.

Using Gimp to create an outside LCD Image (w/video walkthrough)

What you need

  • GIMP
  • A source image to work with

What you do

  1. "Steal" an image from the internet
  2. Open Gimp
  3. Go to file -> open
  4. Select your file to open

    The image likely needs to be re-sized/cropped

  5. If the image is landscape orientation, do the following:
    1. Go to Image menu -> scale image
    2. In the HEIGHT box, type 80 and press "scale" button
    3. Go back to the Image menu -> Canvas Size
    4. First click on the Chain "Link" image to turn off the "keep aspect ratio" rule
    5. In the WIDTH box type 96
    6. The preview at the bottom will have a box that you can use to select the portion of the image that is going to be kept.
    7. when you are satisfied with the results, click "Resize" button
  6. If the image is portrait orientation, do the following:
    1. Go to Image menu -> scale image
    2. In the WIDTH box, type 96 and press "scale" button
    3. Go back to the Image menu -> Canvas Size
    4. First click on the Chain "Link" image to turn off the "keep aspect ratio" rule
    5. In the HEIGHT box type 80
    6. The preview at the bottom will have a box that you can use to select the portion of the image that is going to be kept.
    7. when you are satisfied with the results, click "Resize" button
  7. Verify that your image is now at 96x80 dimensions. (this will be shown in the title bar of the image
  8. Go to File menu -> save AS
  9. Select the location you want to save it to, then give it a name such as "verizon.gif"
  10. Confirm that you want to export the file to GIF format and choose the option for "indexed" (unless you want it to be grayscale for some reason or other).

You now have a custom outside LCD that you can apply to your Razr v3m phone (the dimensions for the v9m are different so you will have to adjust the sizes accordingly). No longer do you have to be satisfied with using the images that other people make. Now you know how to make your very own custom outside LCD images using totally free software. Dont you just love the GNU public license?

Using Audacity to create a 30 second Ringtone. w/video walkthrough guide.

What you need

  • Source File that needs to be trimmed in length
  • Audacity
  • lame_enc.dll
  • file converter software if you are starting with WMA file.

What you do

the following assumes that you have already installed audacity and followed the directions on the link for lame_enc.dll to extract the dll file to any location on your hard drive.

  1. Convert any WMA file you might have into a WAV or MP3 file to be imported into audacity.
    i use the tool provided by my media player - Creative media source 5 - to convert it to a mono WAV file.
  2. Open the audacity application
  3. Go to file menu -> open
  4. select your file
  5. select a section of the song to your tastes
    you select a section of the song by clicking (and holding) at the desired beginning point and dragging your mouse to the desired ending point (and then releasing).
  6. when you are satisfied with what you hear, go to file menu and drop down to "export selection as MP3"
  7. give the file a name, let the application save it, then you can exit audacity.

You have now created a custom ringtone for absolutely free. No longer do you have to be satisfied with buying or downloading what OTHER people think you want. You can now show the world what you REALLY like!! Enjoy, and feel free to contribute to Hack The Razr's media section!

Simple Guided Walk-Through for V3M/V3C in P2K for Ringtones, Pics, Videos.

I'm only putting this here because that’s what the page states for me to do.

This is a simple very guided walk-through on getting you're Verizon V3C/V3M and any other phone that is compatible setup and properly connected.

First off you are going to pick yourself up a mini USB to standard USB 2.0 cable and then you are going to want to download 2 programs before you start.

1. P2K Commander. (Save it to a familiar location in your computer.)
2. Motorola Software Updater. (Also save to a good location.)

BOTH OF THESE PROGRAMS ARE FREE TO D/L. THEY ARE LOCATED IN THE DOWNLOADS SECTION WHICH IS LINKED AT THE TOP OF THIS PAGE.

Next. Make sure you’re phone has a good charge. If you’re phone mistakenly gets unplugged or shuts off while transferring files it could result in having your phone's software corrupted.

Okay, now that we have the necessary hardware/software we are ready to start.

Go ahead and double click on the file named MSU (Motorola Software Updater)
If it prompts to unzip the files just click unzip files here, but it should automatically do this on its own and bring you to the install screen.

At the main screen we are going to click "NEXT" click next again Click "Agree" now click next to confirm you're install. Now the "Launch MSU Software update" should be checked already. Click CLOSE.

Now on you're computer windows may have a prompt that comes up asking to block or unblock this software, make sure you click unblock. Or you won’t be able to get in.

OK now MSU should be opened up and ready to search for your phone.

Lets go ahead and plug you're USB cable in to a desired USB port on the back of your computer. NOTE. Try and keep this cable in for now on, and continue to try and use the same USB port for every file transfer for now on.

Ok after you plug you're phone in, don’t be alarmed you're phone and computer may beep a few times. You should get a couple popups on the bottom saying it found new hardware and is installing. This is GOOD! DO NOT CLICK ANYTHING UNTIL THIS HAS COMPLETLY FINISHED. MSU should automatically detect and come back on screen for you to see you're MEID number. If it says N/A for MODEL NUMBER AND OPERATOR NUMBER it is ok, that’s fine and it doesn’t need it.

Ok now let’s go ahead and close any running applications such as AOL, games, any programs that are running. CLOSE now!

Now we are going to find where you saved P2K Commander. Open the File up and click on the icon that looks like a Yellow Star that says P2K Commander, a security warning may pop up asking you what you want to do. Click RUN.

Now another box will come up after the program loaded. It will be a "Noob Reminder" which is say "Selected Partition is :a" and "This can be modified in the options dialogue" which after you get more familiar with the software you can change it around and have it not pop up anymore. For now just click OK.

Now this software uses a file standard file transfer system which goes LEFT to RIGHT. So whatever you want to transfer is going to come from the left hand column and go into the right hand column where you're phone settings will be.

You will notice on the left hand side on the bottom there is a little history box of what is going on and what has been done so far. YOU may get stuff in there that says "GENERIC FAILURE, AND VOLUME NAME FAILURE" THIS IS NORMAL!!

Next the left hand column is going to be used to find you're files that you want to be transferred.

The right hand column we are going to click on the topmost part of the program where there is a little dropdown arrow next to where it says "REREAD"
Now click P2K Mobile Phone. Now this program will be loading all you're phone files. Give it a few seconds you can watch the progress of it on the bottom where the blank bar should be filling up with little green bars.

Now that everything is loaded and connected properly we can start by loading ringtones.

First find a ringtone of you're choice from the MEDIA section on the top of hacktherazr.com

Download the ringtone to an easy location, I suggest making a folder in C: named ringtones, makes it easier for P2K and yourself to navigate.

Next go back and open up P2K, move over to the right hand side column and open up P2K Mobile phone from the dropdown arrow next to the "reread" button, as explained previously.

Underneath where is says filename there will be a folder called "a" double click that. Double click Motorola, double click shared, double click ringtone, you should see a list of all you're factory ringtones DO NOT DELETE ANYTHING OUT OF HERE. I WILL EXPLAIN THIS IN A MINUTE...

Ok now that you have the directory opened up for you're phone to receive mp3's, we will now move over to the left hand column.

Go up to where it says "reread" again on the left-hand side, and click the dropdown button CLICK C:\, now you should have a list of files that are showed when you click C: from you're computer itself.

OK... Now we can find the folder that you named "Ringtones" or whatever you called it. Double Click that folder. Now you should see the file that you have downloaded from this wonderful website.

Click ONCE! On the ringtone file. Now move you're cursor down to the bottom right and click "COPY", Wait until the progress bar on the bottom has completely finished before doing anything else. Once it’s done it will be a full line of green bars.

Now make sure you see you're file in the right hand column where you're phone files are located. If it’s in there GREAT! If not repeat the process.

Now before we do anything else we have to delete a file named MYToneDB.db

To find this file follow me... Double the icon that looks like a little hard drive, it is located exactly under the tab named Filename. Like I said it will look like a little hard drive of some sort with 2 little dots next to it and the file size will say

It should be the first file on the list. Now let’s double click that, double click it again, and double click it again, now we should be back to our main files directory. Scroll down and find the file named MyToneDB.db, click that file once to highlight it, and then click DELETE. This file has to be deleted upon system restart for you're new ringtones to be recreated and useable. Don’t worry this file does come back upon restart. DELETING THIS FILE IS ONLY APPLICABLE FOR INSTALLING RINGTONES; YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DELETE THIS FOR WALLPAPER OR VIDEOS.

NOW after you have deleted that file, click on Restart. Watch you outside LCD to come back to normal, and wait for any beeps to stop that may be coming from you're phone or the computer which in this case it is reconnected itself to MSU AND P2K. At this point I like to exit out of P2K and then MSU, unplug the phone sometimes it likes to restart itself on its own again after all of this, if so don’t be alarmed this is fine, Wait until it comes back and has loaded fully.

Go ahead and check to see if you're ringtone(s) are available.

Now for deleting, I RECOMMEND YOU DO NOT DELETE ANYTHING OUT OF YOUR PHONE.
But if you are running out of space !!!!!MAKE 110% SURE THAT ANY RINGTONES OR WALLPAPERS YOU ARE GOING TO DELETE, MAKE SURE SURE SURE SURE THAT THEY ARE NOT BEING USED BY ANYTHING IN YOUR PHONE, MAKE 200% THAT THEY ARE NOT SET AS ANY RINGER OR WALLPAPER FOR ANYTHING, IF YOU DELETE SOMETHING THAT IS BEING USED BY THE PHONE AT THE TIME OF DELETING, IT COULD LOCK YOU'RE PHONE UP AND YOU WILL HAVE A PAPERWEIGHT.

UPLOADING PICTURES...............

Now for uploading Pictures follow the same exact steps as above to get you're phone connected and setup in P2K, but instead of clicking on Ringtones, double click on the folder named "Picture" and at this time you can go ahead and make another folder in your C:\ named "Razr Pics" or whatever it is you like. Download one of the many wonderful pics we have made for you guys to download in the MEDIA section under wallpapers, click you're applicable phone type.

Save it to the folder you have just created

Go back into P2K commander, find it... copy it like we did with the ringtones, be sure you have it set to go into you're pictures and you didn’t mistakenly click ringtones again. Go ahead and copy it and that’s it, it’s not necessary but I recommend restarting you're phone using P2K or unplugging it and manually restarting it. Go in and play with you're new wallpaper!

Uploading Videos.............

Exactly the same as pictures, but make a new file in C:\ named videos, you can find videos in hacktherazr.com under media, THE ONLY TYPE OF VIDEOS ALLOWED IN OUR PHONES ARE 3gp, .3g2, and .mp4. Do exactly the same thing as stated before for setup and transfer. NO DELETING OF ANY FILES IS NEEDED FOR THIS EITHER.

Using Motorola Phone Tools to create custom ringers/wallpapers/etc.

This guide was written for PRE-MEID V3m's from Verizon Wireless. If you have a MEID V3m or it has been updated to the newer firmware (24_1.01.19.xx) this guide will NOT work for you. I wrote it using my Vivo flashed V3m, so if you are using the VZW f/w, pay attention to the seem edits in the beginning. So, that being said, I use Motorola Phone Tools (MPT) exclusively for creating and transfering/backing up my own ringtones and wallpaper pics. You can use it for backing up and restoring your Phonebook, too.

First, I wrote this guide by walking through the steps with my Vivo flashed phone which does not require any seem edits for enabling either USB transfers nor the one for enabling the MultiMedia Studio (MMS) usage within MPT. If you are using VZW software on your phone, you will need to do the seem edit contained either in the guide here or in my "Seem Editing in General" article to enable USB xfers and the following seem edit to enable MMS:

  • Bytes 0000, Seem 2827, Record 0001, Offset 0006; check bits 0,2,3,6
  • Also, if you are running VZW software, the setup process may be a little different than what I describe below, I'll be checking on that later.

1). SETTING UP MPT:

Now let's, aquire the version of Motorola Phone Tools that I use, version 4.0. DO NOT PLUG YOUR PHONE IN BEFORE YOU'RE TOLD TO DO SO LATER. After downloading it to a location you will remember, (double) click on it and hit the "Install" button. All that will do at this point is extract the package to a folder called "MPT4". Then open that folder and go to the sub-folder called "ENU" and then (double) click on the setup.exe file there. MPT should start to install at this point. After agreeing to the license terms, the next window will be "Setup Type". Click the "Custom" button (dot) and then the "Next" button. Unclick the "Outlook plug-in" check box and then the "Next" button.

  • NOTE: The only reason I use the 'custom' install is because I use Outlook and not Outlook Express on my computer. The last time I did the "Complete" install, every time I opened Outlook, I had an annoying message about some incompatable .dll file between MPT and Outlook which took an extra 'click' to get my e-mails.

Unless you want to install MPT to a different location, click the "Next" button again. Otherwise, go ahead and modify. Go ahead and continue with the install. When prompted to register, just click the "Register Later" button. The next window will again re-iterate not plugging your phone in until instructed to do so. Click "Next". Now, as the window states, it's time to restart your computer. If you want a shortcut on your desktop, just click the "Finish" button, I did. Otherwise unclick the check box.

After your computer has restarted, it has been reported that you may need to re-install your Handset USB Drivers, as the driver set that MPT may install don't seem to work correctly (don't ask me why). So, if you're using one of the newer driversets, you can go to your "Start" menu -> All Programs -> Motorola Driver Installer -> and then use the 'Clean and Re-install' option. The latest driver set can be found here. Then after doing that, go ahead and restart your computer again.

Now that your computer has restarted, go ahead and fire up MPT. The first window you will be presented with is the "Live Update" window. I just clicked the "Cancel" button for now, you can use the update feature later.

Then you will have the "Choose Profile" window. For now just go ahead and leave it as "Default" in the drop-down menu and click the "OK" button, as this guide is geared towards using a USB cable between your phone and your PC. Other profiles will be explored in further revisions to this guide.

Then, an "Application Setup" window will popup and then it will switch to the "Welcome to the Phone Setup wizard" window. Underneath that title it will say, "Please make sure your phone is not locked" (this will be further covered in other guide articles) and below that the "Cable" radio button will be filled in. Go ahead and click the "Next" button.

Then you will be presented with the "Phone Setup" window. NOW go ahead and plug your phone in to your PC and it will ask you to wait while your phone is being setup. Your phone and your computer may 'beep' several times. There might even be a "New Hardware Found" bubble pop up for a moment or two. This is normal, just wait. If everything goes right, an image of your V3m will be in the lower right of your desktop window. It will show a battery meter, a signal strength meter and Verizon in the window that represents the screen that you would see if your phone was open. To the right of that will be several icons, "Syncronization", "Phonebook", "Calendar", "Text Message", "Multimedia Studio", and "Internet Connection".

Congratulations, you now have successfully setup MPT and your phone on your computer.

2). USING MPT FOR CREATING RINGERS AND WALLPAPERS:

Now, click on the "Multimedia Studio" icon to the right of your phone's image. There might be a "Processing" window flash a progress bar for a moment. Then another window will open that says, "Multimedia Studio" in the title. Under that you will have "File Transfer Studio", "Image Studio", "Melody Studio", "Video Studio", and "MMS Studio". For now, all we are going to concern ourselves for this portion of my article (guide) is the "Image Studio" and "Melody Studio" icons/links.

  • a). Ringtones:
    • Click on the "Melody Studio" link. The window will change a bit and there will be multiple tabs near the top, "Samples" (default), "My Melodies", "My PC", "My CD", "My Phone".
    • Most often, the song/sound you will want to make into a 'ringer' will be on your PC, so click the "My PC" tab.
    • Use the dropdown list or otherwise navigate to the file you want to make into your new ringtone.
    • Once you click on the file, the lower MPT window will show a graphical representation of the whole file (with a timeline) and the upper right window will say "Preview" and beneath that (if it's a song/.mp3 file) it will have the song info and then below that it will have a '>' button which is the preview button. Just make note of that button for now.
    • Just above the lower window will be "Save to PC" (make a note of this button), "Transfer to Phone", "Crop", "Delete", and "Tools" buttons active.
    • Now, since I write this based on converting a full length music (.mp3) file to a ringer, click on the "Crop" button mentioned above, since we know that a full length song can't be practically be used as a 'ringer'.
    • Once you have done that, you will see a portion of the graphical display in the lower window of your song be highlighted with 'slider' bars. You may now between using the 'preview' button mentioned above and the 'sliders' in the lower window, select the portion of your song that you wish to convert into a ringtone for your phone.
    • As you do this, to the far right in that lower window under "Selection" you will see the length of your selection, I suggest that you crop it down to less than a minute. This will depend on whether you use the "Vibe then Ring" function, or just "Ring" function selected on your phone. I personally use the 'vibe then ring', so I crop down to about 30 seconds. Your preference may vary.
    • Now, after you're done, you will notice that there are only two buttons active in that lower window. One is a green 'check' mark, and the other is a red 'X'. If you hover over each, you will find that the 'check' mark is to "Accept Crop" and the 'X' mark is to "Cancel Crop". Obviously, if you're happy with your crop, use the green 'check' box, otherwise continue to edit your crop.
    • After accepting your crop, you may want to use the "Save to PC" option so you can give your newly created 'ringer' it's own distinctive name, otherwise, if you use the "Transfer to Phone" option, it will transfer to your phone as "unnamed.mp3" and you won't really know what it is. Just make a note of where you 'saved' it to your PC and the unique name you gave it so you can then navigate back to it using the upper file browsing window within MPT. Then using the upper file navigation window, navigate to your 'ringer', click on it, and THEN click the "Transfer to Phone" button.
      • This serves two purposes. One is now you have a backup of your created ringtone, and it has it's own name as well.
    • You will see a progress window that your file was transferred and congrats. You now have a new ringtone available in your ringtone repository, no more work required. There are no 'other' files you need to delete, you didn't have to make sure you put this file in the right directory of your phone, you don't have to power cycle your phone, NOTHING.
  • b). Pictures (i.e. wallpapers and picture ringer id's):
    • Now, if you have exited MPT or jumped to this section instead, when you fire up MPT, it may again give you the "Live Update" window. Go ahead and click the "Cancel" button. I'll cover updating later. Click "OK" on the profile button. You should hear you phone 'beep' a couple of times while the image of your phone show up in the lower right of your screen.
    • When it shows "Verizon" (or your carrier), go ahead and click on the "Multimedia Studio" icon. Then in the next window, click on the "Image Studio" link.
    • Again, the window will be broken down into a few parts. The upper part is the file navigation prtion, called "Image Files". To the right of that will be the "Preview" portion, and at the bottom will be the "Selection" portion.
    • Using the Iimage Files" portion, navigate to the picture file you want to use and double click on it.
    • You will then see the picture in both the "Preview" window and the "Selection" window. In the "Selection" window there are a few buttons at the top, Save to PC, Transfer to Phone, Crop, a 'check' mark and an 'X' mark, New, Original Size, Adjust Image to Window, and Tools. For now just click on the "Adjust Image to Window" button.
    • Then click on the "Crop" button and use the selection lines in concert with the "Preview" window in the upper right to adjust the picture to a size that will be best shown on your phone.
    • When you're happy with your work, click the green 'check' mark to accept your crop.
    • Now, contrary to the method for your ringtones, you may just click on the "Transfer to Phone" button, as it will preserve the original filename of your picture. You will see a progress bar and BAM, your custom pic is on your phone.
    • AGAIN, no worries about where this file will transfer to your phone, and this process will not modify your original picture file on your PC, so no worries there.
    • Not only that, but MPT4 is the only software you need to perform this and your ringtones, no need for using a bunch of different software to accomplish these tasks.

3). Final Notes:

  • This version of MPT (4.0) I have given you here should be sufficient for all the tasks I have outlined here, however if you do chose to use the "Live Update" feature, I recommend that you DO NOT GO BEYOND version 4.36c as that will 'break' support for your V3m/V3c phone.
    • To get rid of the "Live Update" window, after starting MPT4 and having the image of your phone in the lower right of your PC screen, click on the 'menu' button represented as the center button in the image of your phone.
    • You will then have a drop down list, drop down to "Setup". Then go up to "Live Update Configuration" and click on that.
    • Then click on the "Manual" radio button, then click the "Validate" button below. You won't see any progress window or any other changes, but now whenever you start MPT, hurrah, you will no longer have that pesky "Live Update" window.
  • I find that MPT4 is handy for backing up my phonebook sometimes as well. To do so, instead of using the "Multimedia Studio" link, use the "Phonebook" link, and you will be presented with options for where and how to backup your phonebook as well.

And last, but not least, I should point out that although there are other features shown within the MMS portion of MPT, like the "Video Studio" and "File Transfer Studio", I will not cover the use of these features here. For one, the "Video Studio" is only good for converting vid files and transfering them to you phone's memory. The "File Transfer Studio" will access your transflash card, but I may cover that in another article.

Using AVS Videos Tools to code videos to be compatible with our phones.

First thing we are going to do is get a fresh copy of AVS Video Tools, Links and information is located in the software section.

Ok install the software.

Open up AVS Video Converter
. Click the very first browse button
. Locate the video you wish to convert to .3gp/.3gp2
. Highlight the video and click OPEN
. You are going to want to click once on the top button that says .3GP so it knows that we want to convert this file to a .3GP
. Next If you still want to keep you're original file make sure you choose an output source which is the second browse button. Make sure to save it in a folder that is easy to get to using Bitpim or P2K.
.Next CLICK CONVERT!
.DONE!

Now you can go ahead and use the other guides to get the video on you're phone!

Note: Depending on the size of the video file it can take anywhere from 1min up to 60min, Anything below 1GB should only take 1-2min.

  2. Click on the "link" for "youtube to ipod converter" (its the first one in the list)
  3. Next to the "Input URL" box, click the "Browse" button
  4. Locate your video file
  5. In the drop down box for "Devices" choose "MP4 Mobile Phones"
  6. In the drop down box for "Presets" choose "Mobile MP4 Balanced Quality"
  7. for "output file" you can optionally set a different location for the file to save to by pressing the "Browse" Button
  8. Click "Convert" and let the application do its job.

Youtube videos

  1. Go to youtube and find a video that you want to convert
  2. copy the URL from the address bar (highlight it and press CTRL+C)
  3. Open DVDVideoSoft
  4. Click on the "link" for "youtube to ipod converter" (its the first one in the list)
  5. Paste the URL into the "Input URL" box (click in the box and press CTRL+V)
  6. In the drop down box for "Devices" choose "MP4 Mobile Phones"
  7. In the drop down box for "Presets" choose "Mobile MP4 Balanced Quality"
  8. for "output file" you can optionally set a different location for the file to save to by pressing the "Browse" Button
  9. Click "Convert" and let the application do its job.

The Video

you don't get to see the video being played at the end for some reason though, but it works.

Using Windows Movie Maker to make you're own videos!

This software is absolutey free, it comes with all Windows XP software.

This is going to show you how to add video clips, cut out parts of movies you want, upload media from you're video camera etc..

Step 1.

Click on the Start menu icon on the lower lefthand side of your desktop

Start > All Programs > Windows Movie Maker

If for some reason it doesnt not show up in you're start menu

Click Start menu again, Click Search, Type in Movie Maker. It will find it, if it hasnt been deleted from you're pc already.

Ok open up Movie Maker. To upload media from a cam-corder or digital camera

Click File, Click Capture Video, Then follow Tutorial below.

Tutorial:

.Click File
. Click Import Into Collections.
. Find you're video file wherever its saved on you're computer
. Open it up, now you're videos will appear in a bunch of small boxes.
. These are seperated clips from the movie you just loaded
. Next find the box that you think has the specific part of a movie or video you want
. Click Play on the right hand side where the video shows when you click on it
. there are options right below the video on the right side if you scroll you're mouse over it will say "Split the clips into 2 parts"
. get to the exact part of the video you want to make the movie play when you open it up on you're phone. and click pause
. Click "Split"
. Then it should save another small box in your main collections screen make sure you keep you're eye on cause it will be labeled the same as the clip you just split but with a (1) at the end. That is you're first split of that clip.
. Now what we are going to do is take the clip labeled "example(1)" and highlight it so it shows on the screen on the right.
.Click play again
. The movie should start playing from the point which you paused it before and splitted it.
. Now continue to watch the video and click pause when you want the video to end.
. Click Split again.
. Now you should have 3 clips that were split and made from 1 clip. named "Example","Example(1)", "Example(2)"

. Now we are going to want to take the file "Example(1)" and drag it down to the Storyboard on the bottom.
. Now we are going to save it.
.Click File, Click Save Movie File.
. We are going to save it to "My Computer"
. Click Next
. Enter a Name for it, click browse and save it wherever you want it placed.
.Click Next, Then Click "see more choices"
. Then we are going to click Other Settings.
. Now click the dropdown arrow, and click on " High Quality Video (NTSC)" Why are we saving it as HQ NTSC? well simply cause its going to save it no matter what as a WMV. file, So we misewell keep it at DVD Quality.

. Now click NEXT, it will start saving, you can now either View it when you click finish, or start using a video converter to convert it to .3GP/.3GP2.

So.. you already have a video that is in proper format for your phone (mp4) that you want to be able to edit? AviDemux can do just that. Mind you that this video is not the likes of Windows Movie Maker that you may be familiar with, but instead is more of a simple small scale tool you can use to work with things like cutting out specific sections of the video (like dark frames at the beginning and end) and can be used to import a sound track from outside sources. Make your necessary simple changes and save the video out to a new file.

So you prefer to work with Windows Movie Maker so that you can add in credits and transitions and the like to your video? AviDemux features the ability to convert the video to AVI format which can then be brought into Windows Movie Maker to do different type edits to the movie. However, when you use Windows Movie Maker to edit your movie, you will have to use one of the other converter applications mentioned in this software section to convert the video to mp4 format for your phone.

Get your phone wet? What you should do...

Hopefully you made it here before your phone got wet, but since that is unlikely, here is the best advice we can offer. Most of this is really just common sense.

Please be aware that your insurance may not cover water damage, the white ‘dots’ inside of your phone are moisture sensors. If these come in contact with moisture they turn red / pink. If this happens, there is no fooling a tech, don’t bother trying.

For this guide we will be using:

IMPORTANT!!!!! DO NOT ATTEMPT TO POWER UP YOUR PHONE
IMMEDIATELY take out the battery and TF card then follow this guide as soon as possible, the longer the phone sits exposed to air after being wet the worse it is for your phone.

      General Guidelines
      Clean your phones pcb’s thoroughly with Electronic Cleaner* being sure to use the included brush to remove any contaminants , rust, etc..

      If using alcohol, you may pour alcohol over the phone, then thoroughly swab the parts with q-tips

      If you are confident enough you can take out the pcb’s and detach the cables, carefully clean them and all connections with q-tips and alcohol

      Make sure all parts are free of moisture, debris and residue, then let the parts sit and dry for at least 24 hours

      Follow the guide backwards to reassemble your phone

      Do not reinsert TF card until you are sure the phone is working properly Reinsert the battery and try your phone.

      If it does not work, and you are able, try a new battery.



      Options without taking your phone apart
      ( first always remove the battery and TF card ):

      Submerge phone in 95% Isopropyl Alcohol, Medical ( not commercial ) Ethanol or deionized water

      Shake out excess fluid and allow to dry for 1-3 days depending upon the liquid used



      Things others have tried and claim success:
      Air drying it for a few days

      Using a blow dryer to dry it

      Putting the phone into an oven at roughly 120 degrees ( not recommended )

      Sealing in a bag with white rice ( lol )

      Putting near a dry low heat source such as forced air heating ducts or vents

      Sealed with Silica packets ( often found packaged with shipped electronics , shoes and such ) for a couple of days

      Same with calcium chloride pellets

      * QD Electronic Cleaner by CRC is very good, but any available, quality electronics cleaner ( suitable for circuit boards ) will do. Denatured alcohol or deionized water will also suffice.


Master Reset/Master Clear with Radiocomm

How it works

  1. In radiocomm you need to select the main pulldown menu, select MA >CDMA1X >6500 chipset Base.
  2. then in the settings pull down menu, select USB>M-Link USB Driver
  3. in the main RadioComm window, click on the P2K1 tab

The computer should then "beep", and you should see the radio detection change from a blue circle to a green circle. just below the middle of this window and to the right you should see the options to master clear and master reset.

If i were you i would not mess with any of the other settings you may see on this window unless you want a brick atleast not b4 you do some serious research into what this program is capable of and what each option does.

VZW Media Player Album Art

Ah yes, this is a sweet little addition to the media player side of your phone. This guide will teach you how to specify and automatiaclly upload album covers for any and all of the music that you upload to your phone. And yes, it will display on your phone when the song plays. Pretty sweet huh? Thanks to Shakirafan from our forums for figuring this one out


For this guide we will be using:
* Motorola Razr V3M / KRZR for Verizon
* Windows Media Player 10
* An album cover




How to setup that album cover!
    1. Open up Windows Media Player 10
      2. Select the song(s) that you would like to specify the album cover for (yes, you can select multiple songs and apply this album cover by using the CTRL key or the SHIFT key on your keyboard)

      3. After you select the songs you want to specify the album cover for, right mouse click them, and then select Advanced Tag Editor

      4. Go to the Pictures tab and click the [Add...] button

      5. Find the image that you would like to specify for the album cover. It is recommended that this image not exceed 200 x 200 pixels in dimensions. And yess, if you go over 200 x 200 it might not work. Once you find the image, highlight it and click OK.

      6. You should now see the image preview. Under Picture Type: click the blank drop down menu and choose Cover (front)

      7. Now click OK and WMP10 will begin to add the image to the selected songs. After this finishes it will go back to the normal WMP10 window, and weeeeeee! its ready to go

      8. Now simply sync the music with your phone as you would normally, then goto the song you specified the album cover and look in amazement as you listen to Shakira - Hips Don't Lie and get to see a spicy image of her at the same time...

How to perform a seem edit on your Razr V3C/V3M

This section relates to the Razr Phones provided by Verizon Wireless only.

For most people i would assume that performing the first seem edit on your phone is a wee bit confusing. Im going to try lay that one to rest here be explaining how to perform your first seem edit and how to interpret seem edits you read about.

For this application we will be using:
* Motorola Razr V3C for Verizon * USB cable connection * MSU - Motorola Software Updated **OR** PST 7.2.3 - Phone Programmer [both available in the downloads section] * P2KSeem4v710 (DOWNLOAD)

How to perform your first seem edit
    1. Plug in your phone via the USB cable


    2. Start Phone Programmer (comes with PST 7.2.3) ***OR*** MSU - Motorola Software Update
    You must have one of these programs running in the background, as that creates the P2K connection that P2K seem editor needs


    3. If you've installed the additional drivers for Phone Programmer before, skip this step. If you havnt, you will be asked to install a couple new drivers. Use Search for a device.. then use Specify a location... then select the directory where you original V3C drivers are located ( if you used our guide on setting up your V3C drivers then your location would be c:\V3C Drivers )


    4. You should hear a series of USB chimes. Wait till they stop, and Phone Programmer is ready to be used.


    5. Start P2KSeem4v710


    6. Now, in the bottom right where it says Load, there should be an input box labeled Seem: -- this is where you type in 2742 (which is where most seems are located).


    7. To the right, there is Record: -- make sure that this says 1


    8. theres a input box above Load thats labeled Bytes (h) -- the default should be 7a -- which does work, but not for what we're doing. Here you need to change it to 90


    9. Then you click the [Load from Phone] button under the load section.


    10. You will see a bunch of random numbers in the top left of the seem editer. These are the actual seems. How these work, is like a graph... the left side is 00 - 80 and the top is 0-9 & A-F

    11. Hope you're not too confused now, because its time to change this bad girl. The seem we are editing to enable vibrate then ring is offset: 7b with turning off Bit 3 and turning on Bit 4

    12. This means that we need to locate the seem on line 7 aka 000070 -- now follow that line to the right where it should say -- 0e -- click on 0e and the "Selected Byte Details" should have changed to say "Offset: 007b" and bits 1, 2, and 3 are checked.


    13. To enable vibrate then ring, UNCHECK BIT 3 and then you need to CHECK BIT 4 -- bit 3 should not have a check, and bit 4 should have a check.


    14. Wam bam thank you ma'am. We're ready to write the seem. In the bottom right under Save, theres a button labeled [Save to Phone] -- click it!

    15. And we're done... almost. Now you need to restart your phone, which can be done by clicking [ Restart Phone ] above the Load area. Otherwise, you can just turn your phone off and on.



    16. Now how do you actually turn Vibe then Ring on? The only way ive been able to figure out how to turn it on is by closing my phone, then press the double button on the left (the one on the left closest to the camera) and then press the single button on the left side, located below the double, and click it in until the screen reads -- Ring Styles -- Style: Vibe then... -- now press the double key again to set it.



    15. Bingo. Its all set. Now you can use this method to figure out other seems edits...
    [seem 2742] [length 90] [offset 7b] [turn off bit 3] [turn on bit 4] -- thats the specifications for the vibrate then ring seem edit

How to setup BitPim on the V3C / V3M Razr

BitPim can be used for a large variety of reasons. One of the usual fav's is being able to download all those pictures and videos you took, as well as the audio recordings (or almost any file for that matter!). It's primary use is for exploring the filesystem, as certain hacks will require that you manually upload a file to a certain area that is not available from the main options. This can be accomplished by first making the filesystem option appear, by going to View > View Filesystem. This will be repeated again in the guide just to make sure you've got it ready for future hacks.


PLEASE NOTE:
   o PST or MSU are NOT required to use BitPim.
   o Please make sure that you have closed PST/MSU and re-plugged your phone before switching phone software.
   o BitPim cannot add new files to the phone. Meaning, that you can overwrite files that are already on your phone.
      But you cannot write new files to your phone with BitPim (you can use RSD CDMA General + p2k commander to add new files).
   o At times when doing this setup process your computer might freeze after clicking a button.
      Just ride it out, it will come back from being frozen and you'll be able to continue with the setup.



For this guide we will be using:
* Motorola Razr V3C / V3M for Verizon
* Latest Motorola Drivers (Setup USB)
* BitPim 0.9.13 (Download )

How to setup BitPim

    1. Plug your phone into your computer with the USB cable. If you were previously using another program, make sure to unplug and reconnect your phone to your computer before attempting to connect to your phone with a different program. Make sure to close all other programs that connect to your phone. Bitpim does not need PST or MSU running in the background.

    2. Open up Bitpim. It can be downloaded here: (Download)

    3. If this is your first time using BitPim, you will probably see this window that says that there was no phone detected/recognized. Go ahead and click [ Yes ] to open the settings window



    If you do not see the above pop up when you started BitPim, then click on the Settings button, which looks like this:



    4. The following window should come up on your screen. The blanks “Phone Type” and “Com Port” may be filled in with something, but those are what we are going to change.



    5. Click the “Browse…” button next to “Com Port.” You should see a page that looks like this:

    Aside from “Motorola USB Modem” you won’t have the same ports on your computer, but the important thing to note is where the “Motorola USB Modem” is appearing. If it is under “Available Ports” then you can choose it and click OK, if it’s under unavailable ports try unplugging and reconnecting your phone. That should make it become available. Clicking OK takes you back to the Settings menu.



    6. From the Settings menu, click on “Phone Wizard…” next to “Phone Type.” This will take you to the following window.



    7. Choose your Carrier first, then Manufacture, and lastly your phone. Even if you don’t have Verizon, choose Verizon Wireless on the left, then Motorola, and lastly “v3cm” as your phone model, as shown below. Then click Next.



    8. You should now be at a page titled Communication Port Settings, as shown below. Clicking on each COM port individually will show you what it is on the right. These are the same COM ports that were shown in Step 5 when you were selecting Motorola USB Model under ports. If you remember which port it was you can click right on it. If not you can scroll through all the choices until the page looks like the screen shot below, and the Port Detail has information about your Motorola USB Modem. Once the correct COM port is highlighted click Next.




    9. The last page should be titled Summary, and have a button that says, “Detect Phone.” You don’t need to do that, however if you do, it will say Failed, which is OK. Either way, click on Finish. .



    10. You’ll be taken back to the Settings menu, and those blanks are now filled in with the correct information. Click OK.

    11. Ignore all the handy looking options on the left like “Phonebook,” “Media,” etc. Those won’t work with CDMA phones. Go to View/View Filesystem and an option will be added at the end of the list of choices on the left that is a picture of a file cabinet and is called “Filesystem.” Clicking on it will show you a folder in the next space over, with a + next to it.



    NOTE: If there is no plus to click (for example, if it’s a minus and clicking on it does not show you the file system, close and reopen Bitpim. All the setting stuff you just did will remain with a restart, and the file system icon will still be showing when it opens back up.)

    Click on the + to show the contents of the folder. The bar at the bottom should look like below





    12. Tada! You can now browse through your file tree. Note that Bitpim is only useful for overwriting or deleting files, but not adding new files. You can also use it to copy pictures you’ve taken with your phone onto your computer. For adding files, try using p2kcommander, which you can download here:

Messing with arcconfig.ini - extended video duration

This section relates to the Razr Phones provided by Verizon Wireless only.

The v3c and v3m from Verizon are capable of recording videos with a maximum of 15 seconds. This guide will show you how to extend the maximum length of videos up to 4 minutes and 55 seconds! And poof... the Razr turns into a mini digital video camera! It works great, and is really easy to do.

The -only- drawback is that Verizon's network still limits videos to 15 seconds, meaning that you will not be able to send a video over 15 seconds to someone via PiX messages. If you plan to record a video meant to be sent attached to a pictuer message, then just remember to stop the video recording before 15 seconds hits.

However, you will still be able to view the entire thing on the phone as well as download the video from your phone onto your computer.

This does not work on the Alltel firmware.

You now have the capability to take up to 4 minute 55 second videos with your v3m / v3c Razr from Verizon!

      NOTE: While taking a video, the time counter of the video will go from 00:00 to 00:60 then resets back to 00:00 for another count of 60 seconds, and so on...
    P2K Commander
      1. Launch P2K Commander then get connected open the Filesysten tree - a/ 2. Navigate to a/brew/mod/arcmedia - double click on the arcmedia folder to display its contents. 3. Download   V3M arcconfig.ini   OR    V3C arcconfig.ini 4. Goto the desktop and locate the arcconfig.ini file that you downloaded. Make sure that you remove the initial v3m. or v3c. from the beginning of the config file. 5. Drag and drop the file named arcconfig.ini on your desktop (or other location) right into the right side of P2K Commander. This will then upload the pre-made, extended video duration configuration file. 6. Wham! You now have the capability to take up to 4 minute 55 second videos with your v3m / v3c Razr from Verizon!

Thanks to Listenman20, we now have figured out how to add in an mp3 filter for SENDING your mp3 files in the MMS system, as well as increasing the limited file size for transfers.

Thanks to a PM I just received from thilderbrand, I've been informed that this hack also allows to send ringtones via the MMS system as long as they are within network size limits. I wanted to wait for confirmation of this before stating it as fact (my phone runs the old firmware), but now that I've had it confirmed by someone it is safe to say that newer firmware Krazr and Razr v3m phones can now have some of their lesser known but useful ringtone abilities restored!

I would like to mention that this hack was originally performed on a Verizon Krazr (firmware version 01.19.09) This guide is only needed on the firmwares that have the ringtones stored in a separate location than the recorded audio. What needs to be done is the following:

  • Access the file-system using QPST or BitPim(p2k commander apparently cannot find the necessary file)
  • Navigate to /brew/mod/arcmedia
  • Copy over the file named arcconfig.ini

After making the changes, save the file (to a different location so that you have a backup). Then, go back into QPST or BitPim and navigate back to /brew/mod/arcmedia and overwrite the file that is on the phone.

Go back to the root of the filesystem and delete the MyToneDB.db file for good measure and exit the application you are using. Reboot the phone and you should be all set.

Some notes. If you have any audio currently recorded and saved on the phones internal storage, you should transfer it to the card first before doing this - otherwise you will not be able to access them through the phone and will have to move the files via p2k commander. Also note that if you do this hack and currently have recorded media stored on the card, simply moving those files to the internal storage might not be enough since they were not yet indexed by the phone as a valid ringtone. The MyToneDB.db will only index files that are currently stored in the /motorola/shared/ringtone folder. Once the file has been indexed once it can be moved back and forth from the card to the phone and still be settable as a ringtone while it is stored on the phone.

RSD CDMA General, an alternative to PST and/or MSU

In this guide I will have you install RSD CDMA General instead of MSU or PST. RSD General will be as nice as MSU and do most everything that PST does, but it does it better. This guide assumes you've already got the USB Drivers for your phone installed and working. Do NOT plug your phone in until told to do so later in this guide.

First, you may aquire RSD CDMA General version 5.1.6 here. After clicking on that link download it to a location on your PC where you will remember where you put it. Then double click on the file and then click the "Install" button. All this action will do is extract the .msi file. Then double click on the RSD_CDMA_General_5.1.6_Installation.msi file and the program will install. The MOST important thing to note is that either during the install or the first run of this program, if your firewall program asks whether or not to 'block' it, click the "Block" button.

Now, go ahead and fire this bad boy up. In the main window, it will ask you to "please power up your phone and plug it in" and the lower window will say, "Failed to parse matrix file, Please contact your system administrator". Don't worry about that message, it is NORMAL with this software. Go ahead and plug your phone in now.

After plugging your phone in, your comp and phone should 'beep' a few times and additional software should automatically be installed (unless you've already used PST). Just like MSU (if you've used MSU), your cursor should change to a little phone and then your ESN and f/w version should be shown in the upper window. In the main window you will see a message in red saying, "If you are upgrading your software or doing a swap operation, this phone is not supported. You may however continue to use the phone provisioning menu", and under it in black a "Please disconnect this phone" message. This is TOTALLY NORMAL! Congrats, you have RSD CDMA General set-up and working properly.

Finally, I post this guide because I had so much trouble with PST which in my book stands for Piece of Shite and Troublesome. RSD General can be used in place of PST/MSU to put your phone in the proper mode for using P2KSeem, P2K Commander; it can be used to backup your phonebook and if you have a 'flashable' phone, it will do all the backups/restores more reliably than PST if you chose to flash.

This list is primarily for Verizon RAZR's (v3c / v3m) but some of the main seem edits appear to be the same for Sprint razr's and a few other carriers like enable usb transfer and MPT subsidy code.

Setting Up QPST for file transfers

  1. FIRST you must obtain the QPST (oops) program. After downloading it, then double click on it, click the "install" button, then after it extracts, double click on the actual QPST installer program within the folder. Once it's done then proceed.
  2. Connect the phone to the PC with the mini USB cable
  3. Open the QPST configuration utility
  4. Make sure you are on the "Ports" tab
  5. Ensure that the ports are enabled by clicking the "Enable" button
  6. If after waiting a bit, it still says "no phone", click the "Add New Port" button
  7. Choose port(s) from the list on the left, click OK
  8. Momentarily, the phone should be recognized and appear as "SURF6500-ZRF6500"
  9. Click on the "Start Clients" menu
  10. Choose "EFS EXPLORER"
  11. Make sure the SPC field is set to 000000
  12. Click OK and let it connect - leave the configuration utility running
  13. This can be an alternative to using either P2K Commander (under RSD CDMA General) or Bitpim at times for file transfers between your computer and your phone. HOWEVER, QPST sometimes will not allow certain transfers (i.e. will give you a brew 'locked' message) but your mileage may vary.

HOW TO SKIN THE MOTOROLA RAZR V3M

Update

Due to recent reports, I felt that it is pertinent to explain that this hack is really only useful on the older firmwares such as NEWC_01.09.02 (mine). If you are unsure what firmware version you have, please check the FAQ section.

An in-depth look at skinning the Razr from Verizon Wireless. Traditionally the problem is that Verizon has made its own Firmware (in computer terms, operating system) and changing your phones theme or skin was not intended. This guide helps you learn how to skin the Motorola Razr V3M from Verizon Wireless and other carriers that do not have the stock Motorola firmware.

  4. if necessary double click the module icon to install
  5. make a shortcut on the desktop for ease of access

Enabling file transfers with QPST

The following seem needs to be edited with p2k seem editor:
Enable QPST File Transfer WORKS
2742 Bytes: 0000 Offset: 5a Check Bit 7
Allows you to transfer files using the QPST EFS explorer.
View the seem edit overview if you are unfamiliar with this process.

Connecting With QPST and using its file system explorer:

(do not have MSU or PST running with this application - it does everything for you)

  1. Connect the phone to the PC with the mini USB cable
  2. Open the QPST configuration utility
  3. Make sure you are on the "Ports" tab
  4. Ensure that the ports are enabled by clicking the "Enable" button
  5. If after waiting a bit, it still says "no phone", click the "Add New Port" button
  6. Choose port(s) from the list on the left, click OK
  7. Momentarily, the phone should be recognized and appear as "SURF6500-ZRF6500"
  8. Click on the "Start Clients" menu
  9. Choose "EFS EXPLORER"
  10. Make sure the SPC field is set to 000000
  11. Click OK and let it connect - leave the configuration utility running

Acquiring the skin files:

( I will use the blue skin as an example)

  1. Navigate to /mobile/skins/blue
  2. Click in the right side window and press Ctrl+A (select all)
  3. Drag the files onto the desktop (or into a folder)
  4. MAKE A BACK UP COPY OF ALL FILES NOW!!

Editing the skin:

Assuming everything is done correctly to this point, you should be able to double click the blue.ski file to open it in skinner4moto.

  1. Open the skin by double clicking the .ski icon or by opening skinner4moto and use its open feature The first (and easiest to figure out) thing you will want to do is change the images! I used GIMP for this step. When the skin file is opened, a folder called "gifs" will be created with thousands of images. Most of them are changeable on the original Moto UI only, but there are some that we can change (I will list them at the end)
  2. go ahead and minimize skinner4moto and navigate to the folder where your working skin files are and open the gifs folder. (don't close it - it will erase the gifs)
  3. open the gif that you want to edit (right click and choose EDIT WITH or OPEN WITH)
  4. edit the image and save the file back with out changing the name
  5. repeat this process with every image you want to change

    Now we're going to change some of those screen and font colors!! This part is done through the skinner4moto interface.

  6. restore the skinner4moto window
  7. Click the radio button for "Colors" (right in the middle of the window)
  8. Locate the item you wish to change the color for and click in that row (again, I will list these at the end)
  9. Ignore the color list on the left side
  10. click the colored box next to the word "Color" (again, ignore the one on the left side)
  11. choose a predefined color (or create a custom color to add to the custom color pallete, and select it)
  12. click OK
  13. repeat this process for every color you wish to change

    Now it is time to save the new skin!!

  14. Click the save button on the left side of the window (if you get an error message, just click it again.

Applying the skin

  1. reconnect to the phone with QPST
  2. navigate back to /mobile/skins/blue
  3. right click each file (one at a time) and select "New -> File"
  4. choose the source file from your hard drive - leave everything at the defaults
  5. Click OK
  6. do this for each file created - blue.ski, blue.dat, and blue1.dat
  7. close the EFS explorer - it will ask you if you want to reset the phone, accept this prompt
  8. Close the configuration utility
Enjoy your new skin!!

Change Carrier Banner

This section relates to the Razr Phones provided by Verizon Wireless only.

So maybe you enjoy sporting "Verizon Wireless" on the inside and outside of your phone, but maybe you dont. Noticed how you cant change it from within the phone? Yeah. You can add another line of text but, nehhh... you really want to unbrand that phone dont you. After all, it is your phone - make it so.


Used in this guide:

Change that Carrier Banner!
    1. Plug in your phone to your computer via the USB cable and then start Phone Programmer which comes with PST 7.2.3 (available from most P2P file sharing programs). This guide also assumes that you have previously setup PST and gone through the initial setup process.

    2. Start P2K Seem Editer [DOWNLOAD]

    We are about to perform a seem edit.
    If you do not know how to perform a seem edit, please visit this guide

    3. Basically this text, "Verizon Wireless" is embedded in the phones programming and you can edit this string of text from the seem editer. The maximum amount of characters that you can put is 16 characters. Lets start by by loading up the proper seem and locating the text we will be changing. Use the following seem information:

    Change Carrier Banner WORKS
    296a Bytes: 24 Record: 0005
    Allows you to change "Verizon Wireless" or otherwise to something of your liking. Make sure to take note of the different seem, bytes, and record.


    4. You will notice that on the right side of P2K Seem Editer that there is Verizon Wireless written on 2 lines. You've located the proper place, and we're about to change that bad girl. First, we must warn you to NOT change anything before the V of Verizon OR after the S of wirelesS.

    5. Now, simply click on the V of Verizon and you can begin to type in the new carrier banner. Remember that you cannot go past the S of wirelesS. A good method of aligning your new text (in the center) is in the next step.

    6. Considering that allowed amount of characters is 16 that means that if your new text is really short, and you want to center that text, that you need to figure out how many spaces will be in your new banner.

    Figure out what you want to put in place of Verizon Wireless and count the amount of characters (spaces count as a character). For our example, we will be using "Hack the Razr" which is 13 characters. We have an uneven amount of characters, which means that our banner will either be 1 character to the left or 1 character to the right

    Take the amount of characters and subtract it from 16. For our example that would leave us with 3. So that means we need to put 1 space before the H of Hack and then 2 spaces after the R of razR. Pressing the space bar is fine (for spaces in the banner as well).

      Get it? If not, it should look like this:

    7. After you fix it to your liking, you're pretty much set after we save the changes. Go ahead and click the Save to Phone button to save the changes you just made.



    8. Last step is to restart your phone. You can either click the Restart Phone button on the P2K Seem Editer program or you can just turn your phone off then back on.

    Yee haw. You've now unbranded your phone and customized that text to make it your own. Enjoy.

Change Outside LCD image

This section relates to the Razr Phones provided by Verizon Wireless only.

Sick and tired of seeing that fugly Verizon advertisement on the outside of your phone when its open? Well ok, you might not see it, but other people do - and whats sweeter then customizing it to your own likeness? Yeah I know I know, get on with it! Good news is its pretty easy (with the proper setup) and you can create your own images as long as you have them set to the proper size.

Used in this guide:
* Motorola Razr V3M / V3C for Verizon
* P2K Commander [DOWNLOAD]
* PST 7.2.3 - Phone Programmer



Change outside LCD Image
    1. Plug in your phone to your computer via the USB cable and then start Phone Programmer which comes with PST 7.2.3 (available from most P2P file sharing programs). This guide also assumes that you have previously setup PST and gone through the initial setup process.


    3. There should be a left and a right window pane (both physical sides of the program look the same). There is a drop down menu on both sides that display C:\ and then have a button that says [Re-Read]. Choose the side you wish to explore your Razr on by clicking the drop down menu and clicking on "P2K Mobile Phone"

    If it starts to do something and reads in the bottom left corner:

      Usb p2k device found, phone connected !
      GENERIC FAILURE.     thats normal
      Volume name fail!     thats normal as well


    Then the progress bar should start growing and the bottom left should start to display all the files (names) as the filesystem is downloaded. Success, go onto the next step. If you had problems, continue reading.

    If it snaps back to C:\ and the bottom left window reads

      No p2k device found, NOT connected!
      USB: IO Time-out!
      CMD: Data write fail!
      Volume Name fail!

    yeah that means it failed for some reason. Simply close P2k Commander and Phone Programmer, unplug your phone and give it a couple seconds... plug your phone back in and do the same process.

    4. If you have verizon, the window pane that you chose should have a folder that reads "a".

    5. double click on the folder "a" and then double click the folder labeled "mobile"

    6. You should now be located in the directory P2k:/a/mobile/ -- if you have verizon, you will see verizon.gif.

      Whatever you do, DO NOT DELETE the original verizon.gif from your phone.



    8. On the other window pane (where your phones files are not located) go ahead and locate the image that you would like to replace your original outside LCD image with.

    If you saved the new verizon.gif image to c:\razr\ then simply type that into the address located that is directly above "Filename" and then press enter

      If you saved it somewhere else then you need to locate it by double clicking the folder at the top of the list that says ".." -- this is another term for "go up a directory". Continue to double click it until you figure out where you are, and then locate that verizon.gif


    9. Alright! Now we're ready to transfer that new outside LCD image, arnt you excited?! Once you have located the new verizon.gif image on your own computer, click on it (to select it) and simply Press the [Copy] button located in the bottom right hand corner of the program



    10. Success! The bottom left information screen should now say Uploading Left to Right: verizon.gif -- which means its about to be done.. give it a couple seconds, and then open your phone and look at that bad ass new LCD image.

Change startup / shutdown animations

This section relates to the Razr Phones provided by Verizon Wireless only.

Tired of watching that Verizon or Motorola animation when you turn on or turn off your phone? No?! Ok well then do you just feel like changing those animations? Its easy and doesnt affect anything in a negative way at all. Meh, theres not much to describe about this one :)


Used in this guide:
* Motorola Razr V3M / V3C for Verizon
* P2K Commander [DOWNLOAD]
* PST 7.2.3 - Phone Programmer



Change startup / shutdown animations
    1. Plug in your phone to your computer via the USB cable and then start Phone Programmer which comes with PST 7.2.3 (available from most P2P file sharing programs). This guide also assumes that you have previously setup PST and gone through the initial setup process.


    3. There should be a left and a right window pane (both physical sides of the program look the same). There is a drop down menu on both sides that display C:\ and then have a button that says [Re-Read].     4. If you have verizon, the animations will be located in /a/motorola/shared/picture

    5. Locate the animations which are labeled as customer_opening.gif for the startup animation and customer_closing.gif" for the shutdown animation.

    6. Now you need to choose a replacement and prepare the image to replace your current startup / shutdown animation. If you are creating your own custom animation, make sure that the image is 176x220 (176 width x 220 height) and that you save it in the gif format. If you do not use a gif image with this exact size, it will not work. Also note that animations larger then 320k appear to not function for the opening / closing.

    MAKE SURE THAT YOU SAVE THIS FILE AS customer_opening.gif OR customer_closing.gif


    It is required that you name the new image customer_opening.gif (for the startup animation) or name it customer_closing.gif (for the shutdown animation) so that the filename is the exact same as image currently on your phone. We recommend that you create a new folder on your computer such as c:\razr\ and place the image in there (it makes the next step alot easier)

    8. On the other window pane (where your phones files are not located) go ahead and locate the image that you would like to replace your original startup or shutdown animation with.

    If you saved the new customer_opening.gif or customer_closing.gif image to c:\razr\ then simply type that into the address located that is directly above "Filename" and then press enter

      If you saved it somewhere else then you need to locate it by double clicking the folder at the top of the list that says ".." -- this is another term for "go up a directory". Continue to double click it until you figure out where you are, and then locate that animation


    9. Alright! Now we're ready to transfer that new animation, arnt you excited?! Once you have located the new customer_opening.gif or customer_closing.gif image on your own computer, click on it (to select it) and simply Press the [Copy] button located in the bottom right hand corner of the program

Change the menu theme


This section relates to the Razr Phones provided by Verizon Wireless only.

Razr's such as the V3 from Cingular and other carriers usually come with a User Interface that was designed to be skinned. However, the Verizon Razr's came with a User Interface that was not designed to be skinned. This guide will teach you how to compile and upload your own custom skins for the v3c and v3m Razr for Verizon.

Images contained within .bar files:
    mainmenu_htr.bar = Main Menu backgrounds and top icon backgrounds when selected and unselected

Specifications for new custom skin images:
  • BMP format only
  • 24 bit
  • Size: ( width x height )
    • Main Background = 176 x 146
    • Top Icon Backgrounds = 36 x 33
    • Title Background = 176 x 24


To compile a custom skin we will be using:
* BREW Resource Editor 3.0.4.7 [DOWNLOAD]
* A guide skin: guide.mainmenu.bar // guide.bgtitle.bar


How to compile your custom skin

    STEP 1: REPLACING OLD IMAGES

    1. Startup BREW Resource Editor and then goto File > Open or press ctrl+o and then locate guide.mainmenu.bar and click ok

    2. Double click Objects and it will then list all of entries in the .bar which are essentially each individual image.

    3. Single click Hex 5001 IDI_OBJECT_5001 and you will notice the right window change to load that entries information. You will see Source     Hex located below Attributes

    4. Double click Hex which will activate a drop down menu and then select File. Below Source there should be Data

    5. All set? Click Apply in the bottom right, or the changes you just made will not take effect.

    6. Single click the empty white box to the right of Data, below File. It will then turn into an text input box with a [...] icon to the right of it.

    7. Single click [...] and it will open a window where you need to select the image that you would like to replace the current image with.

    Tip: If you need to locate the image by actually seeing it, like a preview, right mouse click inside the window and then goto View > Thumbnails

    8. Locate and select the image that you will be replacing the old image with and then click open. You will notice in the bottom right hand corner that Object Preview is now displaying your new image.

    9. All set? Click Apply in the bottom right, or the changes you just made will not take effect.



    PAUSE Now repeat the same process for all the other images that you will be replacing to compile your own custom skin.

    After changing all images for guide.mainmenu.bar you need to repeat this process on guide.bgtitle.bar which are the backgrounds behind the title of each menu tab.

    After completing this process for all the images, return here for the next step: compilation.







    STEP 2: COMPILING YOUR CUSTOM SKIN

    Tip: Make sure that you have replaced all the images by making sure that under Data it has a path to your image. If it is blank, no image has been specified.

    1. Goto File > Save As because now we need to save this .bar file as a .brx file so that BREW Resource Editor will allow us to compile the skin.

    2. Select a location and then name your .brx something like mainmenu_yourskin.brx Although its not mandatory, it'll just be better for organizing and sharing your skin with the world.

    3. Now that you've saved your new .bar as a .brx, BREW will allow you to compile your skin.

    Goto Build > Compile Resource Script or Press F5

    4. If all goes as well, it will say Successfully built specified resource script file. Your new mainmenu_yourskin.bar file has been created at the same location that you saved the .brx file to.

    PAUSE Now repeat the same entire process (steps 1 and 2) for all other .bar that you will be customizing (such as yourskin_bgtitle.bar). After completing all the customizations to the .bar files, come back here to continue onto step 3: uploading.







    STEP 3: UPLOADING YOUR CUSTOM SKIN TO YOUR PHONE



    For this guide we will be using:
    * Motorola Razr V3C or V3M for Verizon
    * Mini USB cable
    * BitPim [DOWNLOAD]



    NOTE: You can substitute the other themes (Tropical and Business) in this guide to change the other themes already on your phone. Unfortunately, we cannot add additional skins and instead can only customize current, default ones.



    Change that naughty Verizon Razr skin!

      1. Connect your phone with the mini USB cable. Keep your phone closed, as we will be replacing the main menu's of the phone. If you are browsing for instance Get It Now, there could potentially be a problem during this process while uploading the new skin.

      2. Install BitPim and then launch BitPim
      In the top menu, goto View and then click View Filesystem

      3. On the left hand side, Filesystem should appear below the Play List. Click on it. Now you'll see a folder with a plus and slash symbol in the center window. Kind of looks like +[ ]/    double click it or click the plus sign

      4. This should load your phones filesystem. If you receive an error that it cant connect to your phone, simply unplug your phone and plug it back in, then click the plus sign again. Also for future notice, once you have the filesystem loaded and you experience this same error -- simply unplugging and plugging back in lets you continue what you were doing (useful for some of the following steps)

      5. After successfully loading your filesystem:
             o double click the brew folder
             o double click the mod folder
             o single click the app_mainmenu folder

      6. In the right window, you should now see all the mainmenu_theme files. We're going to be replacing mainmenu_blue.bar -- we recommend that you save the original mainmenu_blue.bar to your computer by right mouse clicking it and selecting save. It will then download the file and ask you where you want to save it to. Select somewhere you will remember just in case you want to change it back to your original blue theme in the future.

      7. Right mouse click mainmenu_blue.bar and select overwrite... now you need to locate the custom main menu .bar file that you would like to upload to your phone. It will now start to upload 1/2 of the skin to your phone.

      If you receive and error that says the files are locked or access is denied, you need to restart your phone by turning it off and then back on OR right mouse clicking in the right window pane of bitpim and selecting reboot phone.

      8. Now that you've uploaded that file, its time to upload the other 1/2 of the skin. We need to change directories, so its easiest to just click the [minus] - sign to the left of the mod folder to minimize that entire folder.

      9. now single click on the sys folder. you should be at /brew/sys/ with 8 or 9 file in the right window pane.

      10. locate blue_bgtitle.bar and backup the original blue_bgtitle.bar as described above (right mouse click > save > select location)

      11. Now that you've backed up your original file its time to upload that second 1/2 of the skin. For some reason the phone seems to lock the system files after uploading the first 1/2 of the skin. So what you need to do is right mouse click the right window pane and select reboot phone

      After your phone restarts and regains a connection (you will hear 2 usb chimes, both different sounds seperated by a few seconds) you're ready to go.

      12. Right mouse click blue_bgtitle.bar and select overwrite... and then locate the custom bgtitle .bar file that you would like to upload to your phone.

      13. Now open your phone, navigate to: Menu > Settings & Tools > Display > Display Themes > Blue -- then press the CLR button to go back to the menu.

      14. SUCCESS! look at that sexyness! You've officially installed your own custom skin.
      Feels good, dont it?

Change the Startup/Shutdown SOUNDS

Great site, I've used it to completely change my Razr V3c. However, in playing and experimenting with the filesystem, I've found an easy method to change the startup and shutdown sounds that your phone plays whenever you power it on or off. I saw the guide to change the screens, but there's no guide for sounds. I don't even know if anyone knows about this yet. So I'm writing a guide in this post on how to do it. To the site ops, feel free to post this tutorial on your site after verifying it on your own phone, and tweak this howto in any way you want. Just want to help contribute to the site that's helped me out so much on my phone. And now, the guide!

For this guide we will be using:
*Motorola RAZR V3c (other models untested as of writing)
*BitPim (or other file exploring software)
*Audacity software (available at http://audacity.sourceforge.net/)

How to change the startup.shutdown sounds

The first thing you will want to do is create an appropriate MP3 file for a startup sound, and a seperate MP3 (or copy your startup sound if you want the same sound for shutdown) for your shutdown sound. I recommend an MP3 no longer than 3 or 4 seconds, as it will cut off the ending if your chosen MP3 is too long.

You will want to use the Audacity software to make your MP3 the appropriate size. To do this install the program, load the MP3 you want to use, and than select an area of the MP3 on the sound graph you don't want to use and cut it. The few seconds of sound you want DO NOT cut out. After you are done trimming your file to a short enough time span to be fully played on your phone, save the file.

Now, start up BitPim. Navigate to /a/motorola/system. In this folder you will have multiple files, including the two we want to replace:
ui_start_up_mono.mp_ (the startup sound)
ui_start_dn_mono.mp_ (the shutdown sound)

Navigate to where you saved your new startup sound on your PC, and rename it ui_start_up_mono.mp_. Please remember that you have to change the file type from MP3 to MP_, and that by default file types are hidden in Windows XP. To make the file type viewable, open up My Computer, click on Tools in the toolbar, than Folder Options, and click the View tab. Find the box that has the words Hide Extensions for known file types, and make sure it is unchecked. Click on apply, than OK. You should now be able to change the file type from MP3 to MP_.

Now, go back to BitPim, right click on ui_start_up_mono.mp_, and click Overwrite. Navigate to where your new, renamed startup sound is, and click Open. The file should be overwritten. Now do the same for ui_start_dn_mono.mp_.

Your phone should now play your newly created Startup and Shutdown sounds. Shut down and restart the phone to verify the sounds play, and enjoy!

Changing the bottom red bar to BLACK

9-11-2008: Guide Revised to clear up some issues.

After flashing my phone back from Vivo to VZW using the 01.05.0A Monster Flash file, things didnt look the same as I had them originally and it took me a while to figure things out again with this hack. I've taken it upon myself to clear this guide up so that people who may come across it will understand it better.

First and foremost, thanks goes to GuyInLACA for figuring out this hack.


IMPORTANT

The file that is linked in this guide should NOT be used on the MAXX Ve or v9m as the screen sizes are different on those phones.


What this hack does:

By overwriting a few files with this one, we are able to change the red bar on the main screen and menu screens to a black color.


What you need:

  • Phone enabled for file transfers
  • Filesystem Exploring Software - QPST EFS explorer is recommended.
  • This file


What you do:

  1. connect the phone to the computer. LEAVE THE PHONE CLOSED!!
  2. Open your phones filesystem with QPST EFS explorer.
  3. Navigate to /brew/sys
  4. Use this file to overwrite motoblue_theme.bar on the phone - this will change the bottom bar to black in the menu when viewing the blue theme.
  5. In order to change the bottom bar to black on the main screen, use the same file, but FIRST RENAME IT to motodefault_theme.bar. If your phone already has a file by that name on the phone, go ahead and overwrite it using this renamed file. If your phone does NOT already have a file by this name, ADD it to the phone. (v3m phones).
  6. To change the bottom bar to black on the other themes (tropical and business) simply rename the file accordingly and overwrite mototropical_theme.bar and motobusiness_theme.bar.
  7. Exit your hacking application and power cycle the phone
  8. Look at that sexiness!


Notes on this hack:

This hack is fully compatible with the custom menu theme guide here. It is also fully compatible with the HTR blue bars hack/Advanced skin guide hack. As mentioned above, this hack affects the main screen and the menu screens, as well as some of the sub menu screens. All the sub screens for Contacts and Recent Calls are black. Messaging sub screens remain red. Some of the GIN sub screens are black - others are red, same for Settings and Tools. The bar color change provided by the HTR blue bars hack and the Advanced skin guide will change the bar color on the dialing screen, browser window, some of the settings and tools sub menus, and a couple other secret areas.

It has also come to my attention that on the krazr k1m phones, the (default) bar file is named differently than on the razr v3m. On the krazr phones, it is named "motodefault_themecli.bar". So you should probably overwrite THIS file instead. But then again, I'm not overly positive yet if this hack works 100% as is on that phone. If anyone would like to report success or failure, please do so by PM'ing me or use the forums which are linked below.

Taking things a bit further:

The original hack was done by GuyInLaca while he was working on skinning the Maxx Ve. The process which he related to me was to open the file in a HEX editor (such as 010 editor) and to do a search/replace for all instances of FF 00 00. He replaced those with 00 00 01. So.. if the file above does not work on your phone, you can attempt to use that method to change the color yourself. Take care to make sure you have a backup of the file incase the edit does not turn out the way that you wanted it to. If you are unfamiliar with HEX color coding, it is done in the fashion of RR GG BB with values ranging from 0-9 and a-f, two characters per color, so 00 FF 00 would be Green and 00 00 FF would be Blue. If you have a graphics editing tool such as GIMP, you can pick a color from the pallete and look at the HEX coding for that color. Keep in mind that some color combinations will not show properly on the phone.

Hack the Razr Blue Bars!

This section relates to the Razr Phones provided by Verizon Wireless only.

Although we're not all the way there yet, you can now change some of the Verizon red menu bars,as well as alot of other images and icons on your phone. Not to mention some text color changes, position of menus, windows, etc, and alot more. This guide will show you how to upload a new Blue theme to your phone that will change the verizon red bars to blue during a phone call, while dialing a number, while browsing the wireless web, and certain menu areas.

A guide is coming soon on how to make your own bars, so sit tight. Not to mention that this is part of the key to skinning the entire phone.

Also, these files can be renamed to replace the theme of Business and Tropical as well. Menu skins will not be affected by this hack.


For this guide we will be using:
* Motorola Razr V3C / V3m / KRZR for Verizon
* Your favorite filesystem explorer (bitpim or p2k commander)



How to make those red bars BLUE dammit!

Download these 3 files to your computer, somewhere you can remember. For Blue.ski, you may need to right mouse click and select Save target as... These can be renamed to be uploaded as the Business and Tropical theme as well

    1.Connect your phone and start your favorite filesystem explorer (bitpim or p2k commander)

    2.Find your way to a/mobile/skins/blue/ (or other skins directory if you choose to apply it to a different theme)

    3.Make a backup of the original files by saving them to your computer in a folder like "backup". Did you forget? download the originals

    4.Upload the 3 files to your phone in the proper directory

    Please note that if you are currently set on Display Theme: Blue - that Blue1.dat may fail to upload with BitPim.

    5.Now you're ready to go change your display theme to Blue, and as soon as its set, you will see the new Hack the Razr Blue Bars!

    6.Enjoy :)

Outside LCD hack that is changeable via phone interface

basically i had a realization (having learned in the past that you can change the location of the outside LCD image, aka verizon.gif, as in the specified path) that it might be possible to change the path of the lcd and do it in such a way that you could specify your outside lcd right from the phone...

well, i figured it out, and made it so that not only can you change what outside LCD you want displayed, right from the phone, but also i made it so that its all done through the microSD card... that means you can literally have hundreds if you wanted, and then basically just go into my pix and rename whichever one you want the specified LCD image to be, in my example, external.gif, reboot your phone, and wallah.

originally my idea was to use this to make it so that you could specify an outside LCD image as a picture that you have just taken with the phone.. but i think the problem with that was that the phone does not want to display .jpg's on the outside lcd, and thats the format that images taken with the camera are saved as.

but i think this is a good enough compromise :) just upload a bunch and change it whenever you want, without access to a computer...

Change your outside LCD right from your phone!
A seem edit is required, as well as a microSD card
(sorry it wont work without a microsd because the true location of those files are too long for the specified path of the outside LCD)

I'd recommend that you just load these seems from your phone, then load my pre-edited seem from file, then save to phone. You can make the edits by yourself, but it does require paying attention to the ./.a.c.t.u.l./.p.a.t.h./. and those .'s arnt just periods, they're completely blank offsets, meaning that if you click on one of the seperating .'s -- all of the bits will be turned off

The specified path of the outside LCD is located in Seem: 2771 and 2772

these pre-edited seems specify the path as /b/external.gif
(and it is case sensitive on the external.gif -- including extension)
which is any file name exactly "external.gif" located on your microSD card. if you remove your microSD card while you have one specified, it simply displays the original motorola LCD image since it cant find yours... so it doesnt break anything

Download these, open pst / msu + p2k seem editer, load seem 2771 (bytes 0000, record 1) and then load seem 2771 from file (specify the one you downloaded from here) then save to phone and repeat process for seem 2772

before you restart your phone, might as well upload a couple external LCD's to mess with, so go ahead and load a couple of these pre-set examples via bitpim or a card reader...

after uploading the new images to the card and saving the seems, make sure one of them is specified as external.gif, reboot your phone, and whalah.

to change them, its as simple as going to my pix, renaming the currently set one to like external10 (or any other name not currently in use) then rename your new choice lcd to: external -- reboot your phone, and enjoy an easily changeable outside lcd :twisted:

Applying Skins (V3a)

THINGS YOU WILL NEED:

-usb cord
-v3a
-correct drivers
-skin you want to apply (skins that work are ones for any moto phone that uses the Moto UI) i found some decent pre-made ones at modmymoto
-Skins Manager (skiman) or alternate download here by signing up at modmymoto

REMINDER: you may need to extract the files from the folder if you are downloading the skins.

what to do:

This is very simple. Start Skins Manager. Then plug in your phone. It will make the chime noise as its connecting.When its done connecting you will notice in the bottom right corner it will tell you how much free space. If it says 0 then either your phone isn't connected or your phone is full. When you know your phone is connected and ready to go. you must click the "install" button. a list of Skin Patches will pop-up.. What these do are make little changes to the skin that you are about to apply.. un-check them all until you are comfortable messing around with them. now click ok. it should bring up a box that wants to know where the skin file is located. So locate the file. Then press open. it should load the skin into your phone. Now go to the little button that says more. click it and select restart your phone. when your phone is restarted you may unplug it and then you can set your skin.
to set your skin from your phone go to settings/personalize/skins and select your new skin!

Change start up and shut down animations

the things you will need to work with is:
1. msu
2. p2kc ( p2k commander)
3. 2 pictures in gif format sized 176 x 220
4. USB cable for moto razr

first off this guide is pretty much identical to the verizon modding guide for this subject so if you have done this with a verizon v3m then you will have no trouble with this one.

1. select the pics you are gonna use for your start up and shutdown. make sure they are in GIF format and sized at 176 x 220. to big or to small and the results wont work. also there is premade ones on motox.com ( http://www.motox.info/showthread.php?t=5952 )You can browse the list for some good ones and if you dont have or know how to convert your pics to GIF format just signup with moto x and in the link which is a forum post your pics and ask nicely for someone to convert them and they will do it.They are usualy cool about making them and will also make you a lcd image , screensaver, and couple wallpapers.

2. once you have your pics ready open MSU and connect your phone. Your esn should read when it finds your phone. Then you can launch p2kc ( p2k commander). Once you have that open it on the right side drop down click p2k mobile phone. It should start auto loading your phones files. When files are done fully loading you should see under file name the letter A. click on it and it will show a list with the top 3 bein ( BREW , MOBILE , MOTOROLA) click on motorola , shared , and then pictures. When you have done that look for these 2 files in that list ( customer_closing.gif & customer_opening.gif )These are your start up and shutdown animations. You wanna save these to a file so if you open you phone files on the left side and copy them to folder on the right side with C:\ being in the drop down you will have a back up.

3. Once you have done that have your pics you selected ready and formatted and read this closely. YOU MUST NAME THE START UP PICTURE CUSTOMER_OPENING & SHUTDOWN PICTURE CUSTOMER_CLOSING. THERE IS NO NEED TO ADD THE GIF EXTENSION SINCE IT SHOULD ALREADY BE IN GIF FORMAT. ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF P2KC WITH THE LIST IN THE PICTURE FILE GO AHEAD AND DELETE THOSE 2 FILES JUST TO MAKE SURE YOUR NEW ONES COPY OK. THEN ON THE LEFT GO TO WHERE YOU HAVE SAVED YOU NEW PICTURES AND CLICK ON THAT FOLDER TO REVEAL YOU NEW PICS. HIGHLIGHT THE ONE YOU CHOSE FOR SHUTDOWN THEN CLICK COPY ON THE RIGHT HAND CORNER FOR P2KC WINDOW. ONCE IT LOADS YOU CAN DO THE SAME FOR START UP PIC ( I GO SHUT DOWN FIRST JUST BECAUSE THE ORDER IT APPEARS ON THE LIST WONT CONFUSE YOU)

4. After you have done that click the resart button and you can safely disconnect your phone. It will take a second to go back to main screen but once thats done you can test it by shutting your phone off and turning back on and walla it should display your new animations.

Make free custom ringtones

Things you will need:

1. goldwave software
2. open and account with zedge.com
3. msu
4. p2kc

This to help you make your own ringtones with out having to buy software converters or ringtone maker. The website zedge.com already has a ringtone maker available for account user and you can upload your own mp3's and customize it using their edit program which is extremely user friendly, it makes 29 sec long ringtones.Go to www.zedge.com to sign up.

1. Once you have a account with zedge.com go to ringtone maker. Once your on that page click browse and search for your mp3 file you would like to make for you phone. Once you have selected it click upload and it will up your file to be alter for your liking. Move the start and end spacer bars over the soundwave you see and you can preview what you will hear to accurately make your ringtone sound good. After that click done and it will give you options on how to save it. You wanna click save to pc ( for easier location i save it to my desktop ).

2. Goldwave is optional if the mp3 RT has too much bass for your speaker you can use goldwave to edit your mp3 from stereo to mono and lower the sound grade so its less harsh on your phones speakers. To getr the software you can go to www.downloads.com or search it on any search engine to find it. It has step by step guides to help you edit you mp3.

3. Open MSU and p2kc. Once p2kc is open on the right side click the drop down and highlight p2k mobile phone. it will begin to auto load your phones files. once it done loading click on a located under file name on right side column then motorola , shared, and finaly audio. Once you have comppleted that task find your custom ringtone on the left side which should have c:\ defaulted in the left side drop down. Highlight it and click copy button. Once it completes copying the file over to your phone click restart to safely disconnect your phone.

4. To locate your new ringtone go to menu on your phone and open media the sounds. Find your new ringtone file and click the option soft key. You will have the option to apply as ringtone. Select that and you will be able to find it on you list of ringtones in you settings menu.

Transferring Files (v3a)

YOU WILL NEED :

-Motorola PST: Reminder- this program must stay running in the background while using many programs.
-P2K Commander:
-V3a RAZR
-USB CORD
-CORRECT INSTALLED DRIVERS

Starting the Programmer:

Now open PST PHONE PROGRAMER. It will say establishing connection with phone. Its important that you don’t plug your phone in until after PST is running. After plugging in the phone you should hear notification chimes. When they are done then your phone should be connected now to PST .

STARTING P2k Commander:
Now with the phone connected and PST running in the background you may open P2KC, After you hear it connect you are ready to start.

REMINDER: Your IMG/VIDEO/AUDIO folders are located at ( a/motorola/shared/ )
This is where you will see the files that are stored in the phone. To Get there you must go on the top of the right column and dropdown the menu. Choose the P2K Mobile Device. Then choose the file you want to upload from your phone(right column) then dropdown the menu from the left column and choose a folder that you want the files stored into. Now right click the files and click copy. The file should now be stored. Exit when finished. Now to put files into the phone from your computer just follow these same instructions but copy from computer(left column) to the correct phone folder (right column).

You should now have Successfully transferred files.

REMINDER: this same concept is used when applying ringtones.
