Guides, tutorials, how to's, and more on how to modify and hack your Motorola RAZR.
If this is your first time hacking your razr, please make sure to check out the Start Here guide for instructions and a link to download the drivers that may be required to get your computer to recognize your phone for programs, charging, and more.
If you've already viewed the Start Here guide or already have your computer setup with the proper drivers to interface with your phone, then go ahead and choose which wireless carrier you have as guides are specific to certain phones from certain wireless carriers.

First off thanks for joining us here at Hack the Razr where you can get the most out of your phone. If this is your first time hacking your razr, then this is a perfect place to start.
Picture your phone as a mini, handheld computer that uses alot of the same concepts. At the end of your hacking journey you'll most likely somewhat forget that you can do all of this and all of that, and oh hey - it makes phone calls too.
It has a filesystem, much like your computer, that you can navigate and upload / download to. Most of the programs used to explore and change this filesystem can even be treated like just another windows explorer window, in that you can drag and drop a file from your computer onto the filesystem program. Note that downloading content like pictures and videos that you've taken does not act in this way, and instead has some sort of copy or save button.
Hacking your Razr voids your warranty However, just about every single guide here at Hack the Razr is capable of being reverted back to stock, original settings and display. Meaning that you can change the image displayed on the outside LCD screen
when you have your phone open to say, the Koolaid man, and then change it right back to the original Verizon logo, without a problem and without a trace of any hacks. Very nice! and pretty much required if you want to avoid problems when taking your phone into your wireless carrier, especially if something breaks on your phone.
At any rate, try and follow the specific steps of every guide (including reading all notes and requirements) and you shouldnt find yourself with an expensive paper weight (as properly put by pyde pypper). All of the hacks here are safe, and should not break your phone. Just be careful, very specific, and remember that you are altering the way in which your phone operates. Dont forget to make a backup of all files you are changing, including seems, images, and anything else you might need a backup of. We do have a section of original files that you can download, just in case you forget. Also, please save your exploration of new hacks and what not until you get fully comfortable with all aspects of hacking your razr.
USB Cable or Bluetooth? Although some Razr's have full bluetooth support and transferring content and such may be possible, with the CDMA Razr's (like the v3c and v3m from Verizon and Sprint) most, if not all, bluetooth support has been removed. However, it seems as though simply using a USB cable for computer connectivity is more or less the easiest, most reliable way to hack your razr. If you look at your phones plug in area you will notice that it is the exact same as many digital cameras, mp3 players, and other goodies. Just about all of these USB cables will work perfectly fine for your razr, and if you cant get your computer to even recognize a new device, simply try a different USB cable.
USB Device Drivers The so-called USB device drivers is basically how your computer knows how to talk to the phone. Some programs may require up to 5 device drivers to work properly. When connecting a v3c or v3m model razr, it will read it as a Motorola v3c (even if you really have a v3m) because they are more or less the same phone (atleast for Verizon and Alltel) that simply have the added microSD expandable memory slot and the accompanying music player.
When connecting your Razr, make sure that you use the same USB slot on your computer each time. Its best to just leave the cable plugged in that way you dont forget which one it was plugged into. The reason being that everytime you plug it into a new USB slot, it will want you to install everything again (as it thinks its another new device)
Installing drivers will be a re-occuring theme, and you will probably have to do it relatively often throughout your hacking experience. So yeah, nows the time to get familiar with it :)
Note: For Windows XP users, these drivers and following programs will not work at all unless you have Service Pack 2. It has been reported that you may be able to get most of this stuff to work on Windows Vista and possibly Windows 2000. It is possible to do certain
things with the mac, and documented information will be coming soon.

This guide applies to: * Motorola KRZR K1M * Motorola SLVR L7 * Motorola RAZR v3m * Motorola RAZR v3c * Motorola RAZR v3 * Motorola RAZR v3i * Motorola RAZR v3x * Motorola RAZR v3t * Motorola E815 * and probably many more |
Works on the following operating system: * Windows Vista * Windows XP * Windows 98 * WIndows 2000 (?) |
Installing the Motorola Driver Installer
1. After you download the Motorola Driver Installer you need to first unzip it. The easiest way is simply double clicking the setup file (even before you unzip it) which will extract it to a temporary location and automatically launch the setup.
Otherwise, extract the setup file to a place you'll remember, then go there and execute the setup file
2. Make sure that your phone is unplugged from your computer, and then goto Start > All Programs > Motorola Driver Installer > Motorola Driver Installer .exe
3.It will automatically begin the "Clean Only" option. After it finishes the initial clean, click the radio checkbox for "Clean & Reinstall" and then click the [ Start ] button
After its completed, click the [ Exit ] button
4.Now plug in your phone! You should notice 2 or 3 balloons pop up out of the system tray recognizing your new phone. Due to the Motorola Driver Installer, all of these drivers should automatically install and then say "Found New Hardware".
In here, we have a couple of guides for you Razr V3m/V3c owners who are using US Cellular (USCC) as your service provider. Most of the seem edit 'hacks' for Verizon Wireless (VZW) users don't need to be done on your phone, but there are a couple of things that are in the VZW guide that you USCC users can do, but the steps are a little different.
Have fun!
Now I have used this method in this guide using US Cellular (USCC) as my service provider with a V3m. But first, on to the disclaimer:
I don't know if USCC has any 'older' plans (or even if there is such a thing) as they seem to kind of follow VZW's policies on their plan options, so I cannot address what you may be charged, but I DO know about their current plans. If you're on USCC's 'Nationwide" or 'Wide area' plans, you WILL be charged $2.99/mB of usage up and down, unless you have the $9.99 per month 'Unlimited Easyedge' addition to your USCC plan.
I also know that you should watch your overall bandwidth usage even if you have the above mentioned data plan as I think you're still limited to about 5gB per month. It is also sugguested that you disable EVDO on your phone as VZW at least monitors that bandwidth much closer than the 1x, but again, I don't know USCC's policies on this. However, as opposed to the older guides for DUN, it is NOT required to make this work. The guide to disable EVDO is here at hacktherazr.com.
Let's Get Connected:
Now let's try this bad boy out! First make sure all other internet connections on your computer are disabled. Then go to your "Start" menu, then to "Connect To", then select your USCC (or whatever you named it) connection. In the next window, just click the "Dial" button and wait. It'll show dialing #777, and then after it registers you, BOOM BABY, you're on the internet using your razr as a modem!
One last note, if your phone's screen shows "Packet Data", don't worry, this is totally normal. Enjoy!
Now, if I wanted to take the time, I would have the full write-up here, but I don't and won't. If you are still a dinosaur like me and have a V3m on USCC and want to use a bit better f/w on it, then go here and read the rest. After all, I do this in my spare time and no longer want to spend the time to do dual write-ups.
Good luck, teddy
So, this may be the first actual guide to getting a Telus flash (i.e. JAVA based firmware) working on a V3m/V3c. Sorry, but for now, it's just a link to a guide at my site.
I did this on my USCC phone since it's a bit easier to restore DATA than on a VZW phone.
good luck and enjoy
Been around the forums here and hear all the talk about the 'free' wap hack, but can't do it on your USCC phone? Or, maybe you already have figured out how to do this. Well, this guide is for those who haven't.
A disclaimer first, I don't know about the skinny on any 'older' plans that USCC used to offer, so this 'hack' is based on the Nationwide or Wide Area plans that they have now, and that said, it isn't totally free, but it will save you about $5 per month over the EasyEdge to Go service (EE2GO). If you don't already, you should have the monthly unlimited easyedge ($9.99/mo) package added to your plan, otherwise you will be charged $2.99 per mB of data, but if you already have the EE2GO plan, you can now drop that sucker!
Ready? Well, let's go!
First off, if you're just a lurker here, you need to sign up for an account here so you can access the HTR proxy when your done. Then we need to do one seem edit and/or read the info in another seem to get this thing going.
Second, you should aquire the proper software to perform seem edits on your phone here at this site and read a bit about how to do them as well.
OK, fire up the program(s) you need to do a seem edit on your phone and in the seem editor program enter this information: Seem = 0055, Record = 0001, Bytes = 0006; then click the "Read Phone" button. In the far right hand of the seem editor window you will see a six digit number, write that number down, you WILL need it later. DO NOT do any edits to this seem! Next, enter this information in your seem editing program: Seem = 2742, Record = 0001, Bytes = 0000; then go to offset 0018 and check bit 5. Now go ahead and click the "Save to Phone" button and then exit the program(s) and power cycle your phone.
When your phone is powered back up, you can pretty much follow the 'Free Wap' guide here @ HTR, http://www.hacktherazr.com/guides/verizon/features/free-wap but when you enter the "Web Sessions" menu on your phone in step three, you will also need to enter that six digit number I asked you to write down above. There is another difference as well. When is step six of the guide mentioned above, you will find that all it says on your USCC phone is "http://". You'll want to go ahead and add/edit it so it says "http://homepage".
Also, you will not be able to access this through the regular menus on your USCC phone, so you will have to use the step mentioned as a sub text in step eight every time to access this. What you're doing is actually using the Openwave browser built into your Moto phone and totally bypassing the POS EE2GO and even the nWeb browser.
Finally, this is a rough draft of this guide, sometime soon, I will include all the ino here with better formatting to make it look 'cooler'
This section relates to setting up the various applications which can be used to manage the content of your phones file system.

If you are one of the lucky (or smart) ones who are still on Verizon Wireless's (VZW) older America's Choice plans, well this will only eat up your plan minutes! Yeah, buddy, that also means that this is FREE on nights and weekends. KeWl, eh?
HOWEVER, (and I can not stress this enough), if you've let your plan be upgraded or have signed up with VZW since about November 2007, and are on one of thier new 'Nationwide' plans, you WILL be charged $1.99/mB of usage up and down. If you are not sure which plan you are on, STOP AND DO NOT USE THIS GUIDE UNTIL YOU DO KNOW which VZW plan you are on! On the newer 'Nationwide Plan' you USED to be able to bypass the per megabyte data charge with the $15/mo vCast addition to your plan, BUT this is only if you signed up for vCast prior to Sept 2009. Now, you can either sign up for a 'Connect' plan, 'Premium" plan, or choose from two different tiers, 25mB/mo for $9.99 and 75mB/mo for $19.99.
It used to be that you needed to disable EVDO on your VZW phone to make this work, however, as opposed to the older guide for DUN, it is NOT required. HOWEVER, if you chose to use this without disabling EVDO, I STRONGLY suggest you do so sparingly. The guide to disable EVDO is linked here at hacktherazr.com.
Section A; Required Seem Edits:
If you are on VZW and still using a V3m with the NEWC_ firmware mentioned above or any VZW V3c, you will NEED to do the following seem edits (the first one may not be required if you've flashed your phone to a moto ui and/or on a VZW V3m running 24.1_ f/w):
Section B; Setting up the connection on your Computer:
I should point out that the steps outlined below were done on a PC using Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 2 (WinXPSP2). If you are running Vista, your menu's and mileage will vary.
Section C; Connecting:
Now let's try this bad boy out! First make sure all other internet connections on your computer are disabled. Then go to your "Start" menu, then to "Connect To", then select your Verizon, USCC (or whatever you named it) connection. In the next window, just click the "Dial" button and wait. It'll show dialing #777, and then after it registers you, BOOM BABY, you're on the internet using your razr as a modem!
One last note, if your phone's screen shows "Packet Data", don't worry, this is totally normal. Enjoy!
If you have a Palm Pilot, Dell Axim, etc. that you want free internet on, the solution is finally here. Thanks to Trimax84 you can now have DUN on your handheld device! (Other than your RAZR)
But what does it cost?! Nothing but minutes my friend... nothing but minutes. So yes that does mean that if its after 9 or its a saturday (free nights and weekends) then technically, its 100% free weeee! Now tell me how much you love your Razr :)
How the hell? This procedure is called tethering. With Verizon's broadband service you are able to tether using EVDO, which is significantly faster then 1x. However, the Razr is not allowed/capable of tethering via EVDO and instead only works with 1x. Actually using the v3c / v3m for internet is not even a normally possible function with these Razr's however it leaves you to wonder, why would you want to disable such a killer feature? It seems to me like its just another Razr selling point, but who cares -- on to the guide.
For some saucy wireless internet you'll need:
* Motorola Razr V3M / V3C for Verizon
* USB Cable
* A laptop or other PC
* EVDO disabled (GUIDE)
A few notes before we begin...
* If EVDO is not disabled, this will not work
* Disable any shape or form of internet, including routers, wifi, and laptop built-in wifi
* A seem edit is required to make this work
* Being connected uses minutes only
* Arn't you excited?
Go razr internet, go razr internet, go!
2. Perform a seem edit that "Enables 1xRTT Settings and Service Type (QNC, Packet, Auto) - on"

4.Download QPST here Then do this: It takes 15-20 mins or so.
5. Pair the phone with the PDA.
6. Make the settings look just like the ones in this guide
Phone Number (to dial): #777
Username: #MyNumber#@vzw3g.com
Password: vzw
I don't have the advanced options with unencrypted passwords (PAP) and all that, but by using QPST the need for these was circumvented.
7. Now make sure the phone is set to use the connection that you just set up! (Seems simple, right?)
I was stuck here for the longest time. My phone would go from "Packet Data" to DORMANT and sit there, so I knew it was connected but no data was being transferred.
Navigate to Settings --> Connections --> Advanced --> Select Networks (that is for WM5 on my Axim, yours could be different).
Make sure "Programs that automatically connect to the Internet should connect using:" is set to the proper connection.
My said ISP but I had to change it to "My Work Network" (default name given to the bluetooth connection).
This may mess things up when trying to connect using WLAN, but just change this back and it should be fine.
NOTES
So there it is. Free (meaning free nights and weekends since minutes are charged) internet on my Dell Axim x51v from anywhere where I have Verizon service! I hope it was easy enough to follow. Hopefully it spares other people everything I had to deal with.

For this guide we will be using:
* Motorola Razr V3C / V3M for Verizon * Programming Menu & "Web Sessions" * The Official HTR FREE WAP Proxy! * For newer Razr's you may need to do this seem edit: Enable websessions= seem 2742, record 1, bytes 0000, offset 0018 bit 5 |
***
REQUIRED FOR NEW RAZRS FROM VERIZON
Razrs with the latest firmware from Verizon, or rather recently purchased Razrs, came with a new firmware that disable the WEB SESSION menu that is REQUIRED to use this guide. You MUST perform this seem edit in order to show the web session that is needed to get this hack to work.
REQUIRED SEEM EDIT - Enable websessions= seem 2742, record 1, bytes 0000, offset 0018 bit 5
1.
Open your phone. Press #0SETUP* or #073887* -- QUICKLY -- If you pause while typing #0SETUP* in, it may not work. Also note that thats a ZERO [0] not an OH [O]
2.
"Enter Security Code:" should be on the screen - type 000000 which is SIX [6] ZERO's [000000] and then Press the right soft-key which is the top-right button, closest to the screen.
3.
Web sessions should be the first item in the list, and should be highlighted. Press the right soft-key for Select
4.
Scroll down to highlight [New Entry] and then press Select
5.
Here we will setup the new web session to in essence give us FREE WAP. Please note that all the entries you will be making can be done by first highlighting the field you want to change, and then simply begin typing your entry. You do not have to press anything to begin editing, but if you choose to, you can press the center main menu button.
6.
You must have previously registered at our Forum to have your own WAP account.
To set up a wap / forum account, please register here
If you have forgotten your password, click to retrieve your password
*NEW* -> Our WWW Wizard WAP Master has recently (Dec 2008) changed the way that our WAP server gets updated and therefore to complete this process, after signing up for your account here at HackTheRazr (As in step six above), you must FIRST enable WAP from within your account settings. To do so, go to the "My Account" link on the right hand menu, Then, on the next page, right under where it will say "User Profile", click the "Edit" button. Then on that next page, under where your user name is displayed, click on the "WAP" link. On this page, check the "WAP access enable" check box, scroll down just a bit and hit the "Submit" button. Now the rest of this guide should work just fine for you.
| Name: Htr | [Here you can name the websession whatever you want] |
| Homepage: http://homepage | [Un-changeable, but our proxy automatically sends you to wap.hacktherazr.com] |
| User ID: forum-Name | [Enter your forum username exactly as you have it, this is case sensitive] |

| E2E Port 1: 9201 | [You do not need to change this] |
| LXL Port 1: 9201 | [You do not need to change this] |
7. Now click Done and you're almost there!
8.
Highlight your new websession and then press the center main menu button.
You should now find yourself happily connecting to the official HTR FREE WAP proxy, with your very own WAP account. If you have any problems, please continue reading.
Also note that if you want to setup multiple proxies and easily switch to a different web session, then press ##BROWSER (##2769737) to go directly to the web session menu. You cannot alter the username/password/port through this method.
TROUBLESHOOTING
For Wireless Internet Services, please dial *611.
We are unsure why this happens, but it does sometimes, and the usual easy fix for it is to go back into the Web Sessions menu, select, activate, and actually use the REAL verizon wap proxy. Verify that you are able to connect with that. Then, open up Web Sessions and switch back to the HTR FREE WAP proxy, and it should work.
"Network Connection Lost" message
The server does restart as needed so that we can prevent the server from crashing and staying offline for extend periods of time. If you are actively browsing the WAP while our server restarts, you will get a "Network connection lost" message for about 10-15 seconds and then everything will go back to normal and you can continue right where you left off.
"Authentication failed"
Make sure that when you were entering your forum password into the websession that the first letter was NOT capital. Sometimes the razr, by default, makes the first letter of inputed passwords Capital. One method is inputing the same Lletter twice and then going back and deleting that letter.
Also, sometimes if your password is too long or has funky characters in it, it might cause you to get locked out of the system. Simply try and change your password to something simpler and/or shorter just to test and see if that is the issue.
So I finally, after multiple different days of searching and trying, got my v3m, that's flashed to Alltel, to connect and dial up from linux (Ubuntu 7.10 specifically).
First off EVDO disabled like usual. And also you need the no pap thing that would let you use dun from a palm pilot or what not. This is because the dialing program ppp in linux does not let you specify security options and such as you can do with the winders dialer.
So follow this guide up to and including #4 http://www.hacktherazr.com/guides/verizon.dun.ppc.php.
This next part is modified from: http://www.blackberryforums.com/linux-users-corner/101715-how-verizon-8703e-usb-tethered-linux-ubuntu-7-10-a.html.
At the terminal type: tail -f /var/log/messages
Then plug your phone into your computer, you should see something like this:
Apr 8 00:19:49 Kevin-server kernel: [910921.674934] usb 1-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice Apr 8 00:19:49 Kevin-server kernel: [910921.677897] cdc_acm 1-1:1.0: ttyACM0: USB ACM device
Do a ctrl+c then type: sudo gedit /etc/ppp/peers/1xdun
Feel free to replace gedit with your favorite text editor especially if you are not using gnome.
Now paste into this new blank file:

Next type: sudo gedit /etc/chatscripts/1xdun
Again replace gedit if you want/need.
And paste into the new file:

Now you should be able to type: sudo pppd call 1xdun
If you open a second terminal and type: ifconfig ppp and then see something like:

| If you live in an area where your phone constantly switches back and forth between EVDO and 1X then its possible that it is draining the battery of your V3C faster then normal. Disabling EVDO on your Razr in this scenaro has been reported to indeed improve battery life. However, disabling EVDO on your phone renders you temporarily unable to view vCast. Temporarily because you can (with learning the routine) easily disable and enable EVDO at any time. The following is a guide on how to do, just that.
For this guide we will be using: * Motorola Razr V3C / V3M for Verizon * Programming Menu & test mode |
First things first, some more disclaimers:
One note here before I continue. I will ask you to "power cycle" your phone several times. This simply involves turning your phone off for a few seconds and then turning it back on.
Now to the required software list. Now, at this time I will not include the steps you need to use to get this software working on your phone as I see that it would make this already long article into about 20-30 pages. So, I will assume you already know how to use this software or you can read my articles about getting all this software working here on my site. The links to the guides to getting this software working on your phone are in my "Required Drivers/Software" and "Flashing" categories easily accessed by clicking on the menu to the left. Here is the list, and in the future I might make each item 'clickable' so you can download these software items as well. The last two items (#9 & #10) in my list will have downloads so make sure you click on those links and follow the instructions there as they will give you some files that will be nessessary for completion of this process.
So, the REQUIRED software list:
Step One, REQUIRED BACKUPS:
1a). Plug in your phone, then fire up the QPST Configuration program. Make sure you select the port that shows your phone (SURF 6500- etc.) then use the "Start Clients" pull down menu. Select "SERVICE PROGRAMMING". At the phone selection screen, make sure your phone is listed and highlighted, click the "OK" button. Then click the "Read from Phone" button. On the enter "Service Programming Code" window, it will ask you to enter your phone's service programming code. It should already be defaulted to "000000", click OK. The only reason this code might be different is if you have changed this code. When the read is complete, and you see the values filled in, click the "Save to File" button. The file name box will automatically fill in your phone's ESN # followed by _sp. Click the "Save" button. Save it somewhere where you'll remember where it is. You may now click the red 'x' buttons to exit this program.
1b). Unplug your phone from your PC and power cycle it. Now fire up RSD CDMA General. This is my biggest departure from Mark's guide. I think that PST stands for Piece of Shit and Troublesome. Not only that, but from my experience and others, nobody knows when PST is actually connected and/or REALLY reading the nessessary files from your phone. Anyways, don't plug in your phone until RSD CDMA General asks you to do so. After a bit, your ESN will be shown in the upper window. Then click on the ICON for "Phone Provisioning". I may take a while before the program responds. There will be a message in the lower window saying, "Incorrect Matrix File Provided. Carrier Default Values Loaded". This is normal. In the "SETTINGS" window to the left (but not the far left), there will be a list of check boxes and links. Check the following check boxes:
Once you've checked these boxes, go ahead and click the "Read Phone" button. The lower window will say "Provisioning Operation Started" and you'll see several progress bars. This process will take a while, and during the process your phone will restart once or twice, involving some USB 'beeps' and some 'clicking' sounds as well. JUST BE PATIENT, please. Now all these files might not be nessessary, but WTF, it's better to have more than not enough.
When RSD CDMA General is done, you will have a message in the lower window stating "Provisioning has successfully read from phone" and the main window will have "CDMA NAM" as the heading. Make a note of your "Mobile Identification Number (7 digits)[aka MIN]" and then scroll down a bit to your "Mobile Directory Number (Phone Number[aka MDN])" and write both of these values down as you may need these later in the guide. Now at this point, go to the little window to the left of the main window and click the link for the first item, "CDMA NAM". Then click the box, "Save File" and save it where you will remember it's location later. It should have an extension of .nam. The lower window should give you a message "Provisioning has successfully saved the file". Go ahead and go on down the above list, first clicking on the link next to the check box, waiting for a moment or two, then clicking on the "Save File" box. Here is the list again (from #2 on down), just make sure the extensions are correct:
OK, now it's ok to exit this program and continue on. Unplug your phone from your PC and power cycle it before the next step.
1c). Use RadioComm to backup your seems. Make sure you have already correctly downloaded the MonsterSeems.NVM file in part 10 of my required software list. If not, then right click the above linke and use the "Save Target As" option to make sure it doesn't get a different extension appended to it. Plug in your phone first and then fire up RadioComm. When prompted about the Moto Driver Installation setup, click CANCEL. Do NOT run the Moto Driver Installation! You may also get a message about how old your RadioComm is, just click "OK" here as well. I don't know why, but this is what I saw, it's a bit different than Mark's guide as well and your results may vary:
There is a table of the seems that this process backs up, but I won't include it here for now. Also, some people prefer to backup their seems manually using P2K Seem, but again, I will not include this process here either, for now.
Step Two, Flash your PHONE's FIRMWARE:
IF YOU HAD ANY ERRORS whatsoever DURING THE BACKUP FROCESS IN STEP ONE, STOP NOW. DO NOT FLASH YOUR PHONE!
2a). MAKE SURE YOUR PHONE's BATTERY IS FULLY CHARGED BEFORE YOU DO THIS STEP! ALSO, remove your Transflash card if you have one BEFORE you flash. Failure to do so will keep your phone in USB Mass Storage mode. So, you've already got the Vivo flash file from my required software list, item # 9 and followed the instructions for extracting it.
2b). Now, the last part of the flashing process is to perform a Master Reset/Master Clear. The menus will be in Portugese, so here's the sequence (I've included the keypad shortcuts for your convenience):
2c). Since we're in America let's get this bad boy to speak English and also get it back to the right mode for the rest of this stuff (again I've got the keypad shortcuts listed):
2d). The Airplane Mode Option. Finally, if you didn't have another phone to activate on your account you should switch to Airplane Mode now as well, again no guarantees that it will be totally as sucessfull as activating another phone.
Step Three - RESTORING BACKUPS:
3a). First, as a precaution you'll want to backup your Vivo 2742 seem. Power cycle your phone (but if it says, "Activation Required" hit the center menu key first) and fire up RSD CDMA General. When it prompts you to plug in your phone do so. When it shows your ESN (and new Vivo software WhooHoo!) go ahead and minimize it, then fire up P2KSeem.
3b). Use RadioComm to restore your seems. Plug in your phone and fire up RadioComm. Again if prompted about the Moto Driver Installation setup, click CANCEL, do not run the setup.
RadioComm will leave the phone in the correct mode for P2KSeem to connect even though you've exited it, so don't unplug, nor power cycle your phone to do the following seem edits:
3c). Fire up P2KSeem and enter the following values: bytes 0000, Seem 2742, record 0001. then click the "Load from Phone" button. Then click "Load from File" button and browse to your saved 2742 seem from step 3a above. Also, please note that the descriptions for the bits shown below will probably NOT always match what you will see in P2KSeem. Also, some of these bits may or may not be set, but just 'make sure'.
MANDATORY:
OPTIONAL:
When you are done with the mandatory seem edits and whatever optional ones you want to do, click the "Save to Phone" button, quit P2KSeem, unplug your phone from your PC, and power cycle your phone. Now since we were using the state that RadioComm left it in, it may flash and actually need to be restarted again. And if your phone shows "Activation Required", hit the center button again.
3d). Fix Potential MMS Problem. Some users will find that their MDN and MIN do not match. This could cause potential problems sending/receiving MMS messages (pix/flix). Fire up RSD CDMA General again. When prompted, plug in your phone. Once it displays your ESN in the upper window, minimize it, then fire up P2KSeem. Enter these values, bytes 0000, seem 275a, record 0001, then click "Load from Phone" button. Then BEFORE you do any edits, click the "Save to file" button, just in case. Locate offset 0162. To do this, use the scrollbar in the main window of P2KSeem until you find line 000160 then go to the right three spaces until the offset shows 0162. Go ahead and uncheck all the bits at this offset, then click the "Save to Phone" button and then the "Restart Phone" button. If your MDN and MIN are the same, you can make this edit without impacting anything. Go aheand and quit P2KSeem, but leave RSD CDMA General running for the next step.
Step four, using RSD CDMA General to restore your backups:
Now, let's restore some files using RSD CDMA General. Mind you, I am not going to have you restore ALL the files previously saved at this time, so PLEASE follow these instructions. In this step we will only restore four files for now. Go ahead and maximize (or restore) your RSD CDMA General window. Click on the Phone Provisioning icon (the one that looks like a cell tower), and wait a bit. Do not worry about the "Incorrect Matrix File provided. Carrier Default Values Loaded" message in the lower window. THIS IS NORMAL. For the restoring process you don't use the check boxes in the list to the left of the main window, just the links (or words). Also, between each save (or restore) RSD CDMA General may restart your phone, this is normal, and just be patient.
IF FOR SOME REASON your MMS Setting file was saved with a .vms extension, you wil NOT find it and if you tried changing the extension from .vms to .mms, it still won't work correctly. BUT, all is not lost, here may be the workaround:
Step Five, Using QPST to restore service programming:
Unplug your phone from the PC, 'power cycle' it, then plug it back in to your PC. Fire up QPST Configuration. Make sure you phone is displayed, and/or select the port showing your phone, then use the "Start Clients" pull down menu. Select "Service Programming". In the new window, you phone should be listed and highlighted. Click the "OK" button. Then click the "Load from File.." button, and browse to you saved .qcn file and click it. Then click the "Write to Phone" button, in the next window enter your phone Service Programming Code (SPC), it should be all zero's, i.e. 000000, unless you've changed it already, click, "OK". When the write is complete, your phone may restart, wait a bit, then use the "Connection" menu, pull down to "Exit", when prompted to save the 'changed' .qcn file, click "No", then exit the program. Unplug your phone from your PC and 'power cycle' it.
Step Six, Overwrite some files to give you some more familiar Icons:
NOTE: It has been suggested that you exit ALL other programs your PC may be running before using P2K Commander for this next process.
Now go ahead and quit P2K Commander (which ever method you used), quit RSD CDMA General, and power cycle your phone.
Step Seven, Restore and edit your 'Browser' file:
7a). Fire up RSD CDMA General again, then plug your phone is when prompted. Again, when your ESN is displayed, click on the tower above "Phone Provisioning".
7b). IMPORTANT FOR MMS (pix/flix):
7c). Now to finish your MMS settings:
Step Eight, Change the phone's default Network mode:
On the phone, go to Menu -> Settings -> Network -> and go to the "Set Mode" option and make sure it is set to "Automatic B". If it is not, or if you can't change it to this setting, verify ALL the seem edits in section 3c under MANDATORY to make sure you either did them or they stuck. Now, due to the use of QPST and RSD CDMA General for your backups, this option should already be correct, BUT you do want to verify it, because we're pretty much done! WHEW!!
Step Nine, Re-Activate your phone on Verizon Wireless (finally!):
Log into your account at Verizon Wireless and use the ESN swapper to switch back to your newly flashed (to Vivo) phone. Now, if you chose to use "Airplane Mode" instead of the 'ESN Swapper', now is the time to turn Airplane Mode off. Dial *228 and select option '1', wait for your phone to show "Activation Successfull", then go ahead and power cycle your phone and then dial *228 and select option '2'. You might be able to do all this by dialing *22899, but we'll go the long way around the barn this time.
Step Ten, Fixing the vCast video option (or video audio problems?):
Sometimes, or "in the past, to restore the vCast video icon to the phone, we used P2K Commander scripts or manually restored files hacked out of a former flash file. These files didn't work for all phones . . . . and when they did the result was no audio."
So, instead, on your phone, open Get-it-Now -> Downloads -> Catalog. Look under "Featured Apps" to find VCast. Then just download the update, it's free, and then you'll have your audio working for any videos, whether vCast, or your own.
My own personal final notes:
This is a lobor of love for hacking my pre-MEID "hackablest" Razr V3m from Verizon Wireless to flash it to the Vivo Software. As I mentioned in my step 3c above there are a grip of other optional seem edits to further 'fine tune' this f/w for your enjoyment (or at least, mine), as well as to 'knock' out a couple of minor 'bugs'. That said, later, I will include those seem edits in that section. As you can see, my step numbers don't quite match Mark's Vivo Monster 1 guide, but I took great pains using my other comp and my other phone to be able to point to the right buttons, settings, and sequences for success for using my guide.
Finally, MAJOR kudos go out to Mark Venture, pyde_pypper (Aixelsid), styol, kbman, goldmember, spikejones, listenman20, Mopar Sarah, and so many others I can't remember them all for their help and/or posts to get me to the point where I felt I had the tools and knowledge to write this guide.
p.s. Don't try writing a guide this extensive at home, leave it to the double 00 NooBs, because trying to do it right is very time consuming and may be hazardous to your mental health.
-----------------------TO BE CONTINUED-------------------------------------?
So, I hope I have made this clear. AGAIN, this is only intended as a 'generic' process to flash your phone, and that being said, here is the only software you will need for this guide:
One little note about the flash file. Depending on where you obtained it, it may have been compressed one way or another, so BEFORE you proceed, make sure you have the extracted it, if needed, and that it has the .shx extension on it.
Finally, make SURE your phone's battery is fully charged before you proceed, as the phone will not be charging while it is being flashed. ALSO, remove any Micro SD or Transflash card from your phone BEFORE flashing.
OK, the process:
Now all you have to do is navigate through the menu system on your phone and perform a "Master Reset" and a "Master Clear" in THAT order. Since this guide is 'generic' there are too many ways to find these options, but basically, find where ever the "Initial Settings" or "Initial Setup" menu is on your phone and that is where you will find these options.
When you find the "Master Reset" option, you will be asked for your phone's "Security Code" or SPC. You should be able to just enter '000000' (or six zero's). When asked whether to proceed, chose the "Yes" or "OK" button. Your phone will 'flicker' a bit while it goes through a 'soft re-boot'. Then when it's done go ahead and do the same steps for the "Master Clear".
Congrats, and I hope this guide has helped.
I do work for USCC. Many years, love my job, love my company, love my phone. I consider this hack to be both legal and ethical. You bought the phone, you should be able to do whatever you want with it. By blocking things on your phone the company is in a way stealing your features. USCC does not manually block anything on any phone unless it does not work with the network. Here's the way to do it that will work. I spent three days getting everything together and read a novel worth of blogs. I wanted to make it step by step simple and easy.
1. Download this https://rsddownload.motorola.com/download/Motorola_Software_Update.exe
This doesn't really do anything at all except load up. You want to run this until you see the phone's serial number on the left. Then just minimize it and forget it's on
2. Download this http://hacktherazr.com/app/hacktherazr.com-P2KSeem.zip
Perform a seem edit to enable file transfers. The Seem Editor is sectioned into three main interface groupings: the seem location, hexadecimal grid, and bit switches. To use the seem editor, values are manually entered into the seem location area in the bottom right corner of the window. This will provide search criteria when the "Load from phone" button is clicked. Upon a successful read, hexadecimal data will appear in the top left corner of the window. Clicking on any byte will show the appropriate data in the bit switching area at the bottom left corner of the window.
Load the p2k Seem Editor.
Enter 2742 into the "Seem" text box of the "Load" group.
Leave the "Record" text box of the "Load" group at the default value of 1 or 0001.
Enter 0000 into the "Bytes (h)" text box.
Click on the "Load from phone" button.
Rows of hexadecimal values should appear in the upper left corner. If you received a connection error, close the Seem Editor and reset the connection with PST by creating a new phone book, then load phone's data into the new phone book.
Locate the row designed by the number 000060.
Click on the 11th column of dual digit hexadecimal values on this row. The "Offset" will read 006a in the "Selected byte details" group. Alternatively, click on the first column of row 000060 and use your keyboard's arrow keys to navigate right until "Offset" reads 006a.
"Bit 0" in the "Selected byte details" group should have a comment next to it: "Bluetooth Or USB file transfer...". Put a check next to "Bit 0" (comment's suffix will change to "on"), and a check next to "Bit 1".
Double-check your bit changes and an offset value still showing 006a. Verify that the "Save" group and "Load" group check boxes' values match. Ignore the text alignment of the text box contents.
Click on the "Save to phone" button.
Click on the "Yes" button.
Then download RSD Lite. The other RSD programs aren't the same. Get it from the mickey mouse folder. You'll find that one yourself. In that folder also download the USCC monster flash file. NOw just open RSD lite, you'll see the phone on there now and then just open the flash file. Put it over on the phone, and the phone will flash perfectly. It will not work or *228 prl update won't work until it's programmed with an active min and ctn. USCC does have protection software to try to keep these phones from working. Just copy the min and ctn from a currently active phone, update the prl with *228, and voila. You have a USCC phone.
I know this has been covered a gazillion times, but it wasn't all together for this specific procedure. I downloaded every program under the sun and could not find anything at all that worked or how to even use the programs online. This way will save some folks a lot of time.
OPEN!
This method can NOT be used on a newer firmware verizon razr v3m phone (ex. 24.1_01.19.xx). These newer firmwares have the ringtones stored in an alternate location than where the application is designed to put the ringtones at. Furthermore, you will want to use the v3cm module only when doing this method.
To bypass the audio converter, simply hold the "Shift" button on the keyboard while you click the "add ringer" button (Shift+click). This way you do not have to convert a file that is already ready to use. There is no need to delete the mytonedb.db file when doing this method, nor do you need to powercycle the phone. Simply disconnect the phone from the computer and look at your ringer list... you will now see the file in the list and you are able to select it as a ringtone.
Pictures how-to and software.
How to create pictures/wallpaper/animation etc...
The image likely needs to be re-sized/cropped
You now have a custom outside LCD that you can apply to your Razr v3m phone (the dimensions for the v9m are different so you will have to adjust the sizes accordingly). No longer do you have to be satisfied with using the images that other people make. Now you know how to make your very own custom outside LCD images using totally free software. Dont you just love the GNU public license?
ooops... i made some errors i had to fix :P
Software used to create wallpaper etc..
Adobe photoshop is an amazing piece of software, works really good, very very easy for sizing pictures for our phones, any versions of photoshop will do the trick.
The GIMP is a free image manipulation program which is release under the GNU public license, it is obtainable at their website www.gimp.org.
Used for cropping, editing, resizing pictures and wallpapers.
Ringtones/Audio How-to and software
How to create, edit, cut, etc...
the following assumes that you have already installed audacity and followed the directions on the link for lame_enc.dll to extract the dll file to any location on your hard drive.
You have now created a custom ringtone for absolutely free. No longer do you have to be satisfied with buying or downloading what OTHER people think you want. You can now show the world what you REALLY like!! Enjoy, and feel free to contribute to Hack The Razr's media section!
Software used for creating ringtones/audio
AudaCity is a free download which can be found on their sourceforge website here:
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
Audacity is a software for recording and editing sounds. It is available for MAC osx, Microsoft Windows GNU/Linux, and most other OS's
I'm only putting this here because that’s what the page states for me to do.
This is a simple very guided walk-through on getting you're Verizon V3C/V3M and any other phone that is compatible setup and properly connected.
First off you are going to pick yourself up a mini USB to standard USB 2.0 cable and then you are going to want to download 2 programs before you start.
1. P2K Commander. (Save it to a familiar location in your computer.)
2. Motorola Software Updater. (Also save to a good location.)
BOTH OF THESE PROGRAMS ARE FREE TO D/L. THEY ARE LOCATED IN THE DOWNLOADS SECTION WHICH IS LINKED AT THE TOP OF THIS PAGE.
Next. Make sure you’re phone has a good charge. If you’re phone mistakenly gets unplugged or shuts off while transferring files it could result in having your phone's software corrupted.
Okay, now that we have the necessary hardware/software we are ready to start.
Go ahead and double click on the file named MSU (Motorola Software Updater)
If it prompts to unzip the files just click unzip files here, but it should automatically do this on its own and bring you to the install screen.
At the main screen we are going to click "NEXT" click next again Click "Agree" now click next to confirm you're install. Now the "Launch MSU Software update" should be checked already. Click CLOSE.
Now on you're computer windows may have a prompt that comes up asking to block or unblock this software, make sure you click unblock. Or you won’t be able to get in.
OK now MSU should be opened up and ready to search for your phone.
Lets go ahead and plug you're USB cable in to a desired USB port on the back of your computer. NOTE. Try and keep this cable in for now on, and continue to try and use the same USB port for every file transfer for now on.
Ok after you plug you're phone in, don’t be alarmed you're phone and computer may beep a few times. You should get a couple popups on the bottom saying it found new hardware and is installing. This is GOOD! DO NOT CLICK ANYTHING UNTIL THIS HAS COMPLETLY FINISHED. MSU should automatically detect and come back on screen for you to see you're MEID number. If it says N/A for MODEL NUMBER AND OPERATOR NUMBER it is ok, that’s fine and it doesn’t need it.
Ok now let’s go ahead and close any running applications such as AOL, games, any programs that are running. CLOSE now!
Now we are going to find where you saved P2K Commander. Open the File up and click on the icon that looks like a Yellow Star that says P2K Commander, a security warning may pop up asking you what you want to do. Click RUN.
Now another box will come up after the program loaded. It will be a "Noob Reminder" which is say "Selected Partition is :a" and "This can be modified in the options dialogue" which after you get more familiar with the software you can change it around and have it not pop up anymore. For now just click OK.
Now this software uses a file standard file transfer system which goes LEFT to RIGHT. So whatever you want to transfer is going to come from the left hand column and go into the right hand column where you're phone settings will be.
You will notice on the left hand side on the bottom there is a little history box of what is going on and what has been done so far. YOU may get stuff in there that says "GENERIC FAILURE, AND VOLUME NAME FAILURE" THIS IS NORMAL!!
Next the left hand column is going to be used to find you're files that you want to be transferred.
The right hand column we are going to click on the topmost part of the program where there is a little dropdown arrow next to where it says "REREAD"
Now click P2K Mobile Phone. Now this program will be loading all you're phone files. Give it a few seconds you can watch the progress of it on the bottom where the blank bar should be filling up with little green bars.
Now that everything is loaded and connected properly we can start by loading ringtones.
First find a ringtone of you're choice from the MEDIA section on the top of hacktherazr.com
Download the ringtone to an easy location, I suggest making a folder in C: named ringtones, makes it easier for P2K and yourself to navigate.
Next go back and open up P2K, move over to the right hand side column and open up P2K Mobile phone from the dropdown arrow next to the "reread" button, as explained previously.
Underneath where is says filename there will be a folder called "a" double click that. Double click Motorola, double click shared, double click ringtone, you should see a list of all you're factory ringtones DO NOT DELETE ANYTHING OUT OF HERE. I WILL EXPLAIN THIS IN A MINUTE...
Ok now that you have the directory opened up for you're phone to receive mp3's, we will now move over to the left hand column.
Go up to where it says "reread" again on the left-hand side, and click the dropdown button CLICK C:\, now you should have a list of files that are showed when you click C: from you're computer itself.
OK... Now we can find the folder that you named "Ringtones" or whatever you called it. Double Click that folder. Now you should see the file that you have downloaded from this wonderful website.
Click ONCE! On the ringtone file. Now move you're cursor down to the bottom right and click "COPY", Wait until the progress bar on the bottom has completely finished before doing anything else. Once it’s done it will be a full line of green bars.
Now make sure you see you're file in the right hand column where you're phone files are located. If it’s in there GREAT! If not repeat the process.
Now before we do anything else we have to delete a file named MYToneDB.db
To find this file follow me... Double the icon that looks like a little hard drive, it is located exactly under the tab named Filename. Like I said it will look like a little hard drive of some sort with 2 little dots next to it and the file size will say
NOW after you have deleted that file, click on Restart. Watch you outside LCD to come back to normal, and wait for any beeps to stop that may be coming from you're phone or the computer which in this case it is reconnected itself to MSU AND P2K. At this point I like to exit out of P2K and then MSU, unplug the phone sometimes it likes to restart itself on its own again after all of this, if so don’t be alarmed this is fine, Wait until it comes back and has loaded fully.
Go ahead and check to see if you're ringtone(s) are available.
Now for deleting, I RECOMMEND YOU DO NOT DELETE ANYTHING OUT OF YOUR PHONE.
But if you are running out of space !!!!!MAKE 110% SURE THAT ANY RINGTONES OR WALLPAPERS YOU ARE GOING TO DELETE, MAKE SURE SURE SURE SURE THAT THEY ARE NOT BEING USED BY ANYTHING IN YOUR PHONE, MAKE 200% THAT THEY ARE NOT SET AS ANY RINGER OR WALLPAPER FOR ANYTHING, IF YOU DELETE SOMETHING THAT IS BEING USED BY THE PHONE AT THE TIME OF DELETING, IT COULD LOCK YOU'RE PHONE UP AND YOU WILL HAVE A PAPERWEIGHT.
UPLOADING PICTURES...............
Now for uploading Pictures follow the same exact steps as above to get you're phone connected and setup in P2K, but instead of clicking on Ringtones, double click on the folder named "Picture" and at this time you can go ahead and make another folder in your C:\ named "Razr Pics" or whatever it is you like. Download one of the many wonderful pics we have made for you guys to download in the MEDIA section under wallpapers, click you're applicable phone type.
Save it to the folder you have just created
Go back into P2K commander, find it... copy it like we did with the ringtones, be sure you have it set to go into you're pictures and you didn’t mistakenly click ringtones again. Go ahead and copy it and that’s it, it’s not necessary but I recommend restarting you're phone using P2K or unplugging it and manually restarting it. Go in and play with you're new wallpaper!
Uploading Videos.............
Exactly the same as pictures, but make a new file in C:\ named videos, you can find videos in hacktherazr.com under media, THE ONLY TYPE OF VIDEOS ALLOWED IN OUR PHONES ARE 3gp, .3g2, and .mp4. Do exactly the same thing as stated before for setup and transfer. NO DELETING OF ANY FILES IS NEEDED FOR THIS EITHER.
~Spoolio~
First, I wrote this guide by walking through the steps with my Vivo flashed phone which does not require any seem edits for enabling either USB transfers nor the one for enabling the MultiMedia Studio (MMS) usage within MPT. If you are using VZW software on your phone, you will need to do the seem edit contained either in the guide here or in my "Seem Editing in General" article to enable USB xfers and the following seem edit to enable MMS:
1). SETTING UP MPT:
Now let's, aquire the version of Motorola Phone Tools that I use, version 4.0. DO NOT PLUG YOUR PHONE IN BEFORE YOU'RE TOLD TO DO SO LATER. After downloading it to a location you will remember, (double) click on it and hit the "Install" button. All that will do at this point is extract the package to a folder called "MPT4". Then open that folder and go to the sub-folder called "ENU" and then (double) click on the setup.exe file there. MPT should start to install at this point. After agreeing to the license terms, the next window will be "Setup Type". Click the "Custom" button (dot) and then the "Next" button. Unclick the "Outlook plug-in" check box and then the "Next" button.
Unless you want to install MPT to a different location, click the "Next" button again. Otherwise, go ahead and modify. Go ahead and continue with the install. When prompted to register, just click the "Register Later" button. The next window will again re-iterate not plugging your phone in until instructed to do so. Click "Next". Now, as the window states, it's time to restart your computer. If you want a shortcut on your desktop, just click the "Finish" button, I did. Otherwise unclick the check box.
After your computer has restarted, it has been reported that you may need to re-install your Handset USB Drivers, as the driver set that MPT may install don't seem to work correctly (don't ask me why). So, if you're using one of the newer driversets, you can go to your "Start" menu -> All Programs -> Motorola Driver Installer -> and then use the 'Clean and Re-install' option. The latest driver set can be found here. Then after doing that, go ahead and restart your computer again.
Now that your computer has restarted, go ahead and fire up MPT. The first window you will be presented with is the "Live Update" window. I just clicked the "Cancel" button for now, you can use the update feature later.
Then you will have the "Choose Profile" window. For now just go ahead and leave it as "Default" in the drop-down menu and click the "OK" button, as this guide is geared towards using a USB cable between your phone and your PC. Other profiles will be explored in further revisions to this guide.
Then, an "Application Setup" window will popup and then it will switch to the "Welcome to the Phone Setup wizard" window. Underneath that title it will say, "Please make sure your phone is not locked" (this will be further covered in other guide articles) and below that the "Cable" radio button will be filled in. Go ahead and click the "Next" button.
Then you will be presented with the "Phone Setup" window. NOW go ahead and plug your phone in to your PC and it will ask you to wait while your phone is being setup. Your phone and your computer may 'beep' several times. There might even be a "New Hardware Found" bubble pop up for a moment or two. This is normal, just wait. If everything goes right, an image of your V3m will be in the lower right of your desktop window. It will show a battery meter, a signal strength meter and Verizon in the window that represents the screen that you would see if your phone was open. To the right of that will be several icons, "Syncronization", "Phonebook", "Calendar", "Text Message", "Multimedia Studio", and "Internet Connection".
Congratulations, you now have successfully setup MPT and your phone on your computer.
2). USING MPT FOR CREATING RINGERS AND WALLPAPERS:
Now, click on the "Multimedia Studio" icon to the right of your phone's image. There might be a "Processing" window flash a progress bar for a moment. Then another window will open that says, "Multimedia Studio" in the title. Under that you will have "File Transfer Studio", "Image Studio", "Melody Studio", "Video Studio", and "MMS Studio". For now, all we are going to concern ourselves for this portion of my article (guide) is the "Image Studio" and "Melody Studio" icons/links.
3). Final Notes:
And last, but not least, I should point out that although there are other features shown within the MMS portion of MPT, like the "Video Studio" and "File Transfer Studio", I will not cover the use of these features here. For one, the "Video Studio" is only good for converting vid files and transfering them to you phone's memory. The "File Transfer Studio" will access your transflash card, but I may cover that in another article.
Videos How-to and software
How to create and transfer videos to you're phone.
First thing we are going to do is get a fresh copy of AVS Video Tools, Links and information is located in the software section.
Ok install the software.
Open up AVS Video Converter
. Click the very first browse button
. Locate the video you wish to convert to .3gp/.3gp2

Software that is used to create, edit, and code videos.
So.. you already have a video that is in proper format for your phone (mp4) that you want to be able to edit? AviDemux can do just that. Mind you that this video is not the likes of Windows Movie Maker that you may be familiar with, but instead is more of a simple small scale tool you can use to work with things like cutting out specific sections of the video (like dark frames at the beginning and end) and can be used to import a sound track from outside sources. Make your necessary simple changes and save the video out to a new file.
So you prefer to work with Windows Movie Maker so that you can add in credits and transitions and the like to your video? AviDemux features the ability to convert the video to AVI format which can then be brought into Windows Movie Maker to do different type edits to the movie. However, when you use Windows Movie Maker to edit your movie, you will have to use one of the other converter applications mentioned in this software section to convert the video to mp4 format for your phone.
This software allows you to Convert and codes almost every type of video file into a .3GP/.3G2, and alows you to cut, and manage the movie to you're needs.
Very user friendly, works perfect for what we need it for.

Yet another section of guides. Kind of a catch all for things that don't quite fit into the other categories.
|
For this guide we will be using: * A wet Razr * A small flathead screwdriver * A T5 and T6 torque driver * thin hard piece of plastic to pry off face plate * QD Electronic Cleaner by CRC* IMPORTANT!!!!! DO NOT ATTEMPT TO POWER UP YOUR PHONE IMMEDIATELY take out the battery and TF card then follow this guide as soon as possible, the longer the phone sits exposed to air after being wet the worse it is for your phone. |
The computer should then "beep", and you should see the radio detection change from a blue circle to a green circle. just below the middle of this window and to the right you should see the options to master clear and master reset.
If i were you i would not mess with any of the other settings you may see on this window unless you want a brick atleast not b4 you do some serious research into what this program is capable of and what each option does.
This section covers some of the various aspects of programming your phone. Topics such as seem editing and altering the arcconfig.ini file are covered in this section.
|
For this application we will be using: * Motorola Razr V3C for Verizon * USB cable connection * MSU - Motorola Software Updated **OR** PST 7.2.3 - Phone Programmer [both available in the downloads section] * P2KSeem4v710 (DOWNLOAD) RELATED: List of Seem Edits that you can perform using the following process NEW! For this guide we will be using:
* Motorola Razr V3C / V3M for Verizon * Latest Motorola Drivers (Setup USB) * BitPim 0.9.13 (Download ) |
1.
Plug your phone into your computer with the USB cable. If you were
previously using another program, make sure to unplug and reconnect
your phone to your computer before attempting to connect to your
phone with a different program. Make sure to close all other programs
that connect to your phone. Bitpim does not need PST or MSU running
in the background.
2.
Open up Bitpim. It can be downloaded here: (Download)
3.
If this is your first time using BitPim, you will probably see this window that says that there was no phone detected/recognized. Go ahead and click [ Yes ] to open the settings window

Aside from “Motorola USB Modem” you won’t have
the same ports on your computer, but the important thing to note
is where the “Motorola USB Modem” is appearing. If it
is under “Available Ports” then you can choose it and
click OK, if it’s under unavailable ports try unplugging and
reconnecting your phone. That should make it become available. Clicking
OK takes you back to the Settings menu.

Click on the + to show the contents of the folder. The bar at
the bottom should look like below

UPDATED 09/12/08!!
Thanks to Listenman20, we now have figured out how to add in an mp3 filter for SENDING your mp3 files in the MMS system, as well as increasing the limited file size for transfers.
UPDATED 08/19/08!!
Thanks to a PM I just received from thilderbrand, I've been informed that this hack also allows to send ringtones via the MMS system as long as they are within network size limits. I wanted to wait for confirmation of this before stating it as fact (my phone runs the old firmware), but now that I've had it confirmed by someone it is safe to say that newer firmware Krazr and Razr v3m phones can now have some of their lesser known but useful ringtone abilities restored!
I would like to mention that this hack was originally performed on a Verizon Krazr (firmware version 01.19.09) This guide is only needed on the firmwares that have the ringtones stored in a separate location than the recorded audio. What needs to be done is the following:
The file should look something like this:

Make the following changes in the section under the [Audio Settings] heading. (listed by default setting first and followed by new setting):
Here is the list of changes from Listenman20:
this first set is made in the audio section
This next change can be made in each of the sections (pix, flix, audio, and main):
After making the changes, save the file (to a different location so that you have a backup). Then, go back into QPST or BitPim and navigate back to /brew/mod/arcmedia and overwrite the file that is on the phone.
Go back to the root of the filesystem and delete the MyToneDB.db file for good measure and exit the application you are using. Reboot the phone and you should be all set.
Some notes. If you have any audio currently recorded and saved on the phones internal storage, you should transfer it to the card first before doing this - otherwise you will not be able to access them through the phone and will have to move the files via p2k commander. Also note that if you do this hack and currently have recorded media stored on the card, simply moving those files to the internal storage might not be enough since they were not yet indexed by the phone as a valid ringtone. The MyToneDB.db will only index files that are currently stored in the /motorola/shared/ringtone folder. Once the file has been indexed once it can be moved back and forth from the card to the phone and still be settable as a ringtone while it is stored on the phone.
In this guide I will have you install RSD CDMA General instead of MSU or PST. RSD General will be as nice as MSU and do most everything that PST does, but it does it better. This guide assumes you've already got the USB Drivers for your phone installed and working. Do NOT plug your phone in until told to do so later in this guide.
First, you may aquire RSD CDMA General version 5.1.6 here. After clicking on that link download it to a location on your PC where you will remember where you put it. Then double click on the file and then click the "Install" button. All this action will do is extract the .msi file. Then double click on the RSD_CDMA_General_5.1.6_Installation.msi file and the program will install. The MOST important thing to note is that either during the install or the first run of this program, if your firewall program asks whether or not to 'block' it, click the "Block" button.
Now, go ahead and fire this bad boy up. In the main window, it will ask you to "please power up your phone and plug it in" and the lower window will say, "Failed to parse matrix file, Please contact your system administrator". Don't worry about that message, it is NORMAL with this software. Go ahead and plug your phone in now.
After plugging your phone in, your comp and phone should 'beep' a few times and additional software should automatically be installed (unless you've already used PST). Just like MSU (if you've used MSU), your cursor should change to a little phone and then your ESN and f/w version should be shown in the upper window. In the main window you will see a message in red saying, "If you are upgrading your software or doing a swap operation, this phone is not supported. You may however continue to use the phone provisioning menu", and under it in black a "Please disconnect this phone" message. This is TOTALLY NORMAL! Congrats, you have RSD CDMA General set-up and working properly.
Finally, I post this guide because I had so much trouble with PST which in my book stands for Piece of Shite and Troublesome. RSD General can be used in place of PST/MSU to put your phone in the proper mode for using P2KSeem, P2K Commander; it can be used to backup your phonebook and if you have a 'flashable' phone, it will do all the backups/restores more reliably than PST if you chose to flash.

An in-depth look at skinning the Razr from Verizon Wireless. Traditionally the problem is that Verizon has made its own Firmware (in computer terms, operating system) and changing your phones theme or skin was not intended. This guide helps you learn how to skin the Motorola Razr V3M from Verizon Wireless and other carriers that do not have the stock Motorola firmware.

After changing all images for guide.mainmenu.bar you need to repeat this process on guide.bgtitle.bar which are the backgrounds behind the title of each menu tab.
After completing this process for all the images, return here for the next step: compilation.
STEP 2: COMPILING YOUR CUSTOM SKIN
Tip: Make sure that you have replaced all the images by making sure that under Data it has a path to your image. If it is blank, no image has been specified.
1.
Goto File > Save As because now we need to save this .bar file as a .brx file so that BREW Resource Editor will allow us to compile the skin.
2.
Select a location and then name your .brx something like mainmenu_yourskin.brx Although its not mandatory, it'll just be better for organizing and sharing your skin with the world.
3.
Now that you've saved your new .bar as a .brx, BREW will allow you to compile your skin.
Goto Build > Compile Resource Script or Press F5
4.
If all goes as well, it will say Successfully built specified resource script file. Your new mainmenu_yourskin.bar file has been created at the same location that you saved the .brx file to.
PAUSE
Now repeat the same entire process (steps 1 and 2) for all other .bar that you will be customizing (such as yourskin_bgtitle.bar). After completing all the customizations to the .bar files, come back here to continue onto step 3: uploading.
STEP 3: UPLOADING YOUR CUSTOM SKIN TO YOUR PHONE
|
For this guide we will be using: * Motorola Razr V3C or V3M for Verizon * Mini USB cable * BitPim [DOWNLOAD] NOTE: You can substitute the other themes (Tropical and Business) in this guide to change the other themes already on your phone. Unfortunately, we cannot add additional skins and instead can only customize current, default ones. |
1.
Connect your phone with the mini USB cable. Keep your phone closed, as we will be replacing the main menu's of the phone. If you are browsing for instance Get It Now, there could potentially be a problem during this process while uploading the new skin.
2.
Install BitPim and then launch BitPim
In the top menu, goto View and then click View Filesystem
3.
On the left hand side, Filesystem should appear below the Play List. Click on it. Now you'll see a folder with a plus and slash symbol in the center window. Kind of looks like +[ ]/ double click it or click the plus sign
4. This should load your phones filesystem. If you receive an error that it cant connect to your phone, simply unplug your phone and plug it back in, then click the plus sign again. Also for future notice, once you have the filesystem loaded and you experience this same error -- simply unplugging and plugging back in lets you continue what you were doing (useful for some of the following steps)
|
5.
After successfully loading your filesystem: o double click the brew folder o double click the mod folder o single click the app_mainmenu folder |
Great site, I've used it to completely change my Razr V3c. However, in playing and experimenting with the filesystem, I've found an easy method to change the startup and shutdown sounds that your phone plays whenever you power it on or off. I saw the guide to change the screens, but there's no guide for sounds. I don't even know if anyone knows about this yet. So I'm writing a guide in this post on how to do it. To the site ops, feel free to post this tutorial on your site after verifying it on your own phone, and tweak this howto in any way you want. Just want to help contribute to the site that's helped me out so much on my phone. And now, the guide!
For this guide we will be using:
*Motorola RAZR V3c (other models untested as of writing)
*BitPim (or other file exploring software)
*Audacity software (available at http://audacity.sourceforge.net/)
How to change the startup.shutdown sounds
The first thing you will want to do is create an appropriate MP3 file for a startup sound, and a seperate MP3 (or copy your startup sound if you want the same sound for shutdown) for your shutdown sound. I recommend an MP3 no longer than 3 or 4 seconds, as it will cut off the ending if your chosen MP3 is too long.
You will want to use the Audacity software to make your MP3 the appropriate size. To do this install the program, load the MP3 you want to use, and than select an area of the MP3 on the sound graph you don't want to use and cut it. The few seconds of sound you want DO NOT cut out. After you are done trimming your file to a short enough time span to be fully played on your phone, save the file.
Now, start up BitPim. Navigate to /a/motorola/system. In this folder you will have multiple files, including the two we want to replace:
ui_start_up_mono.mp_ (the startup sound)
ui_start_dn_mono.mp_ (the shutdown sound)
Navigate to where you saved your new startup sound on your PC, and rename it ui_start_up_mono.mp_. Please remember that you have to change the file type from MP3 to MP_, and that by default file types are hidden in Windows XP. To make the file type viewable, open up My Computer, click on Tools in the toolbar, than Folder Options, and click the View tab. Find the box that has the words Hide Extensions for known file types, and make sure it is unchecked. Click on apply, than OK. You should now be able to change the file type from MP3 to MP_.
Now, go back to BitPim, right click on ui_start_up_mono.mp_, and click Overwrite. Navigate to where your new, renamed startup sound is, and click Open. The file should be overwritten. Now do the same for ui_start_dn_mono.mp_.
Your phone should now play your newly created Startup and Shutdown sounds. Shut down and restart the phone to verify the sounds play, and enjoy!
After flashing my phone back from Vivo to VZW using the 01.05.0A Monster Flash file, things didnt look the same as I had them originally and it took me a while to figure things out again with this hack. I've taken it upon myself to clear this guide up so that people who may come across it will understand it better.
First and foremost, thanks goes to GuyInLACA for figuring out this hack. The file that is linked in this guide should NOT be used on the MAXX Ve or v9m as the screen sizes are different on those phones.
This hack is fully compatible with the custom menu theme guide here. It is also fully compatible with the HTR blue bars hack/Advanced skin guide hack. As mentioned above, this hack affects the main screen and the menu screens, as well as some of the sub menu screens. All the sub screens for Contacts and Recent Calls are black. Messaging sub screens remain red. Some of the GIN sub screens are black - others are red, same for Settings and Tools. The bar color change provided by the HTR blue bars hack and the Advanced skin guide will change the bar color on the dialing screen, browser window, some of the settings and tools sub menus, and a couple other secret areas.
It has also come to my attention that on the krazr k1m phones, the (default) bar file is named differently than on the razr v3m. On the krazr phones, it is named "motodefault_themecli.bar". So you should probably overwrite THIS file instead. But then again, I'm not overly positive yet if this hack works 100% as is on that phone. If anyone would like to report success or failure, please do so by PM'ing me or use the forums which are linked below.
The original hack was done by GuyInLaca while he was working on skinning the Maxx Ve. The process which he related to me was to open the file in a HEX editor (such as 010 editor) and to do a search/replace for all instances of FF 00 00. He replaced those with 00 00 01. So.. if the file above does not work on your phone, you can attempt to use that method to change the color yourself. Take care to make sure you have a backup of the file incase the edit does not turn out the way that you wanted it to. If you are unfamiliar with HEX color coding, it is done in the fashion of RR GG BB with values ranging from 0-9 and a-f, two characters per color, so 00 FF 00 would be Green and 00 00 FF would be Blue. If you have a graphics editing tool such as GIMP, you can pick a color from the pallete and look at the HEX coding for that color. Keep in mind that some color combinations will not show properly on the phone.
Comments? Questions? Concerns? -- Please feel free to provide some feedback on this guide in the forums.

For this guide we will be using: * Motorola Razr V3C / V3m / KRZR for Verizon * Your favorite filesystem explorer (bitpim or p2k commander) How to make those red bars BLUE dammit!
Download these 3 files to your computer, somewhere you can remember. For Blue.ski, you may need to right mouse click and select Save target as... These can be renamed to be uploaded as the Business and Tropical theme as well
|
RELATED: v3c / v3m / krzr menu skins
basically i had a realization (having learned in the past that you can change the location of the outside LCD image, aka verizon.gif, as in the specified path) that it might be possible to change the path of the lcd and do it in such a way that you could specify your outside lcd right from the phone...
well, i figured it out, and made it so that not only can you change what outside LCD you want displayed, right from the phone, but also i made it so that its all done through the microSD card... that means you can literally have hundreds if you wanted, and then basically just go into my pix and rename whichever one you want the specified LCD image to be, in my example, external.gif, reboot your phone, and wallah.
originally my idea was to use this to make it so that you could specify an outside LCD image as a picture that you have just taken with the phone.. but i think the problem with that was that the phone does not want to display .jpg's on the outside lcd, and thats the format that images taken with the camera are saved as.
but i think this is a good enough compromise :) just upload a bunch and change it whenever you want, without access to a computer...
Change your outside LCD right from your phone!
A seem edit is required, as well as a microSD card
(sorry it wont work without a microsd because the true location of those files are too long for the specified path of the outside LCD)
I'd recommend that you just load these seems from your phone, then load my pre-edited seem from file, then save to phone. You can make the edits by yourself, but it does require paying attention to the ./.a.c.t.u.l./.p.a.t.h./. and those .'s arnt just periods, they're completely blank offsets, meaning that if you click on one of the seperating .'s -- all of the bits will be turned off
The specified path of the outside LCD is located in Seem: 2771 and 2772
these pre-edited seems specify the path as /b/external.gif
(and it is case sensitive on the external.gif -- including extension)
which is any file name exactly "external.gif" located on your microSD card. if you remove your microSD card while you have one specified, it simply displays the original motorola LCD image since it cant find yours... so it doesnt break anything
http://hacktherazr.com/external/2771_0001.seem
http://hacktherazr.com/external/2772_0001.seem
Download these, open pst / msu + p2k seem editer, load seem 2771 (bytes 0000, record 1) and then load seem 2771 from file (specify the one you downloaded from here) then save to phone and repeat process for seem 2772
before you restart your phone, might as well upload a couple external LCD's to mess with, so go ahead and load a couple of these pre-set examples via bitpim or a card reader...

originals borrowed from www.motov3m.com
after uploading the new images to the card and saving the seems, make sure one of them is specified as external.gif, reboot your phone, and whalah.
to change them, its as simple as going to my pix, renaming the currently set one to like external10 (or any other name not currently in use) then rename your new choice lcd to: external -- reboot your phone, and enjoy an easily changeable outside lcd

THINGS YOU WILL NEED:
-usb cord
-v3a
-correct drivers
-skin you want to apply (skins that work are ones for any moto phone that uses the Moto UI) i found some decent pre-made ones at modmymoto
-Skins Manager (skiman) or alternate download here by signing up at modmymoto
REMINDER: you may need to extract the files from the folder if you are downloading the skins.
what to do:
This is very simple. Start Skins Manager. Then plug in your phone. It will make the chime noise as its connecting. When its done connecting you will notice in the bottom right corner it will tell you how much free space. If it says 0 then either your phone isn't connected or your phone is full. When you know your phone is connected and ready to go. you must click the "install" button. a list of Skin Patches will pop-up.. What these do are make little changes to the skin that you are about to apply.. un-check them all until you are comfortable messing around with them. now click ok. it should bring up a box that wants to know where the skin file is located. So locate the file. Then press open. it should load the skin into your phone. Now go to the little button that says more. click it and select restart your phone. when your phone is restarted you may unplug it and then you can set your skin.
to set your skin from your phone go to settings/personalize/skins and select your new skin!
Enjoy!
the things you will need to work with is:
1. msu
2. p2kc ( p2k commander)
3. 2 pictures in gif format sized 176 x 220
4. USB cable for moto razr
first off this guide is pretty much identical to the verizon modding guide for this subject so if you have done this with a verizon v3m then you will have no trouble with this one.
1. select the pics you are gonna use for your start up and shutdown. make sure they are in GIF format and sized at 176 x 220. to big or to small and the results wont work. also there is premade ones on motox.com ( http://www.motox.info/showthread.php?t=5952 )You can browse the list for some good ones and if you dont have or know how to convert your pics to GIF format just signup with moto x and in the link which is a forum post your pics and ask nicely for someone to convert them and they will do it.They are usualy cool about making them and will also make you a lcd image , screensaver, and couple wallpapers.
2. once you have your pics ready open MSU and connect your phone. Your esn should read when it finds your phone. Then you can launch p2kc ( p2k commander). Once you have that open it on the right side drop down click p2k mobile phone. It should start auto loading your phones files. When files are done fully loading you should see under file name the letter A. click on it and it will show a list with the top 3 bein ( BREW , MOBILE , MOTOROLA) click on motorola , shared , and then pictures. When you have done that look for these 2 files in that list ( customer_closing.gif & customer_opening.gif )These are your start up and shutdown animations. You wanna save these to a file so if you open you phone files on the left side and copy them to folder on the right side with C:\ being in the drop down you will have a back up.
3. Once you have done that have your pics you selected ready and formatted and read this closely. YOU MUST NAME THE START UP PICTURE CUSTOMER_OPENING & SHUTDOWN PICTURE CUSTOMER_CLOSING. THERE IS NO NEED TO ADD THE GIF EXTENSION SINCE IT SHOULD ALREADY BE IN GIF FORMAT. ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF P2KC WITH THE LIST IN THE PICTURE FILE GO AHEAD AND DELETE THOSE 2 FILES JUST TO MAKE SURE YOUR NEW ONES COPY OK. THEN ON THE LEFT GO TO WHERE YOU HAVE SAVED YOU NEW PICTURES AND CLICK ON THAT FOLDER TO REVEAL YOU NEW PICS. HIGHLIGHT THE ONE YOU CHOSE FOR SHUTDOWN THEN CLICK COPY ON THE RIGHT HAND CORNER FOR P2KC WINDOW. ONCE IT LOADS YOU CAN DO THE SAME FOR START UP PIC ( I GO SHUT DOWN FIRST JUST BECAUSE THE ORDER IT APPEARS ON THE LIST WONT CONFUSE YOU)
4. After you have done that click the resart button and you can safely disconnect your phone. It will take a second to go back to main screen but once thats done you can test it by shutting your phone off and turning back on and walla it should display your new animations.
im still working on typeing up the guide for creating my own skins and i will post the guide as soon as im done!
