How to setup BitPim on the V3C / V3M Razr

BitPim can be used for a large variety of reasons. One of the usual fav's is being able to download all those pictures and videos you took, as well as the audio recordings (or almost any file for that matter!). It's primary use is for exploring the filesystem, as certain hacks will require that you manually upload a file to a certain area that is not available from the main options. This can be accomplished by first making the filesystem option appear, by going to View > View Filesystem. This will be repeated again in the guide just to make sure you've got it ready for future hacks.

PLEASE NOTE:
o PST or MSU are NOT required to use BitPim.
o Please make sure that you have closed PST/MSU and re-plugged your phone before switching phone software.
o BitPim cannot add new files to the phone. Meaning, that you can overwrite files that are already on your phone.
But you cannot write new files to your phone with BitPim (you can use PST or MSU + p2k commander to add new files).
o At times when doing this setup process your computer might freeze after clicking a button.
Just ride it out, it will come back from being frozen and you'll be able to continue with the setup.

For this guide we will be using:
* Motorola Razr V3C / V3M for Verizon
* Latest Motorola Drivers (Setup USB)
* BitPim 0.9.13 (Download )

How to setup BitPim

    1. Plug your phone into your computer with the USB cable. If you were previously using another program, make sure to unplug and reconnect your phone to your computer before attempting to connect to your phone with a different program. Make sure to close all other programs that connect to your phone. Bitpim does not need PST or MSU running in the background.

    2. Open up Bitpim. It can be downloaded here: (Download)

    3. If this is your first time using BitPim, you will probably see this window that says that there was no phone detected/recognized. Go ahead and click [ Yes ] to open the settings window

If you do not see the above pop up when you started BitPim, then click on the Settings button, which looks like this:

    4. The following window should come up on your screen. The blanks “Phone Type” and “Com Port” may be filled in with something, but those are what we are going to change.

    5. Click the “Browse…” button next to “Com Port.” You should see a page that looks like this:

Aside from “Motorola USB Modem” you won’t have the same ports on your computer, but the important thing to note is where the “Motorola USB Modem” is appearing. If it is under “Available Ports” then you can choose it and click OK, if it’s under unavailable ports try unplugging and reconnecting your phone. That should make it become available. Clicking OK takes you back to the Settings menu.

    6. From the Settings menu, click on “Phone Wizard…” next to “Phone Type.” This will take you to the following window.

    7. Choose your Carrier first, then Manufacture, and lastly your phone. Even if you don’t have Verizon, choose Verizon Wireless on the left, then Motorola, and lastly “v3cm” as your phone model, as shown below. Then click Next.

    8. You should now be at a page titled Communication Port Settings, as shown below. Clicking on each COM port individually will show you what it is on the right. These are the same COM ports that were shown in Step 5 when you were selecting Motorola USB Model under ports. If you remember which port it was you can click right on it. If not you can scroll through all the choices until the page looks like the screen shot below, and the Port Detail has information about your Motorola USB Modem. Once the correct COM port is highlighted click Next.

    9. The last page should be titled Summary, and have a button that says, “Detect Phone.” You don’t need to do that, however if you do, it will say Failed, which is OK. Either way, click on Finish. .

    10. You’ll be taken back to the Settings menu, and those blanks are now filled in with the correct information. Click OK.

    11. Ignore all the handy looking options on the left like “Phonebook,” “Media,” etc. Those won’t work with CDMA phones. Go to View/View Filesystem and an option will be added at the end of the list of choices on the left that is a picture of a file cabinet and is called “Filesystem.” Clicking on it will show you a folder in the next space over, with a + next to it.

NOTE: If there is no plus to click (for example, if it’s a minus and clicking on it does not show you the file system, close and reopen Bitpim. All the setting stuff you just did will remain with a restart, and the file system icon will still be showing when it opens back up.)

Click on the + to show the contents of the folder. The bar at the bottom should look like below

    12. Tada! You can now browse through your file tree. Note that Bitpim is only useful for overwriting or deleting files, but not adding new files. You can also use it to copy pictures you’ve taken with your phone onto your computer. For adding files, try using p2kcommander, which you can download here:

How to setup Mobile Phone Tools with a Verizon v3c / v3m Razr

Mobile Phone Tools, otherwise known as MPT, can be used to upload your own ringtones, pictures, and videos to your Verizon v3c / v3m Razr -- free of charge. These phones come stock from Verizon with this feature blocked, probably for the potential profits that can be made with this feature not available. However, with a relatively simple modification to the phones programming, we can unblock this feature so that we may upload our own content to our phone, for free.

Used in this guide:
    * Mobile Phone Tools - Version 3.20f [purchase it with a usb cable] -->
    * Standard USB cable [PICTURE]
    * Required seem edit: "Enable USB Transfers" [GUIDE] [SEEM EDITS]
    * Razr V3C / V3M from Verizon

!!! A SEEM EDIT IS REQUIRED TO MAKE MPT WORK !!!
You need to modify the programming of the phone first, by performing a seem edit.

6. If it comes back to this window:
then click no

7. Then it will load a default phone, and attempt to initialize

8. This default profile will probably not work with the V3C, so Click the Menu button then goto Setup then click General Setup

10. It then takes you to the Device configuration wizard where you then click next

11. Click on Motorola USB Modem to highlight it and then press Next

12. Takes you to the Detect Driver window where you click next

13. Then it automatically detects your phone and actuall talks with it, until its done when it says "* Closing motorola USB modem" then click next

14. Then you reach Model Selection where, this time around, you're going to select Motorola CDMA and then on the right select Motorola - CDMA Generic and then click next

15. Device configuration is completed so then click next

16. Then you get back to the general setup window, where you click OK -- after this, it will take you back to the same phone, however this time it should actually work and connect after about 10-15 seconds. You can tell it worked by the appearance of Verizon (US)

17. Next, you want to do steps 14-22 all over again by:
clicking Menu > Setup > General Setup
    clicking onto the Communication tab
    clicking Change Modem
    clicking next
selecting motorola usb modem and click next
wait for phone to talk and then click next
NOW THE NEXT STEP IS WHERE ITS DIFFERENT

18. In the Model Selection window highlight Motorola GSM and then on the right panel highlight Motorola - V3 and then click next

19. Next it should goto Device configuration complete so then click finish and back at the General Setup window click OK

Then watch happily as finally, all the hard work has paid off and we've got the Motorola Razr V3C for Verizon to work with MPT V3.20f

Dont forget that in order to actually use most of the functions
you have to press the <> icon above the red power off button

How to use BitPim to add a ringtone to your v3m/v3c phone. w/ walk through video

First things first

This method can NOT be used on a newer firmware verizon razr v3m phone (ex. 24.1_01.19.xx). These newer firmwares have the ringtones stored in an alternate location than where the application is designed to put the ringtones at. Furthermore, you will want to use the v3cm module only when doing this method.

The Method

  1. connect the phone to the computer
  2. start bitpim
  3. expand the "media" section in the tree structure on the left
  4. click on the "ringer" item that now appears
  5. click on the "add ringer button" (musical note with a plus sign).
  6. Select your file and click ok
  7. A converter application will open which you can use to trim the file down to proper length (30 seconds)
  8. Convert and clip your file, choosing the portion you want to use and click "ok"
  9. the file will now appear in the right side window
  10. click the "send phone data" button (arrow pointing towards the phone)
  11. put a check mark next to "ringtone" and select the option to "add"
  12. click okay
  13. the phone will now read the ringer database and update it accordingly.
  14. next, the phone will transfer your ringer to the phone
  15. you now have a new ringtone on your phone.

Notes

To bypass the audio converter, simply hold the "Shift" button on the keyboard while you click the "add ringer" button (Shift+click). This way you do not have to convert a file that is already ready to use. There is no need to delete the mytonedb.db file when doing this method, nor do you need to powercycle the phone. Simply disconnect the phone from the computer and look at your ringer list... you will now see the file in the list and you are able to select it as a ringtone.

PST 7.2.3: Backing up your phone book

Ever thought for a couple minutes that you've lost your phone and found yourself thinking about all those numbers you're gonna lose? Yeah. Us too. Thats why backing up your phone book ever so often is a good thing. Because if you ever actually lose your phone (knock on wood) atleast you've got your precious contacts.

  1. Connect your phone with the mini USB cable
    2. (assuming you've installed PST) Click start and then goto All Programs and find Motorola PST and then click on Phone Programmer to start the interface

    3. You will hear a series of USB chimes. After they stop goto File > New and then a window will pop up with icons - Click Phone Book File and then go ahead and click OK

    4. Now we're ready to grab that phone book from your Razr. The phone drop down should have appeared, click Phone > Read
    5. It will now establish a connection with your phone. Then followed by a retrieval of the Motorola Device Interface. All non-sense you dont really need to know. Eventually it will read the Phone book from you phone and show you a progress bar. This whole process may take a few minutes.

    6. 100% = The phone book is ready for harvest. Your contacts have been plucked from your phone and entered into a window behind this progress window. It is now safe to disconnect the phone. Press the X in the top right of this window to get rid of it.

    7. You'll find yourself at a list of your contacts in a more raw form. This method may cause entires with multiple numbers associated to the same name (IE: Mom > home > cell >etc.) to become seperate entries. Hey, atleast you have a backup.

    8. Goto File > Save. Now save this .phb somewhere you'll easily remember, like the My Documents folder. Also name it something you'll remember like "Phone Book - 05/22/06.phb"

    9. Wham. You've got some saved phone book action going on. No more worriess

PST 7.2.3: Restoring a Phone Book Backup

So you've lost your phone, changed your firmware, or otherwise huh? Well arnt you glad you made a backup of your phone book now eh. Dont worry, its simple. But just a warning: For contacts that had more then 1 number per name, you may get individual contacts for each number. As in Mom = Home + Cell would now equal Mom = Home and Mom = Cell as two seperate entries. Atleast you have> the number.

For this guide we will be using:
* Motorola Razr V3C for Verizon
* Mini USB cable
* PST 7.2.3 - Phone Programmer [download unavailable]

Goto Phone > Write and then it will begin to restore your phone book backup.

    5. It will now establish a connection with your phone. Eventually it will write the Phone book to your phone and show you a progress bar. This whole process may take a few minutes.

    6. 100% = The phone book has been restored. Your contacts have been restored to your phone and you should now have a full phone book. It is now safe to disconnect the phone. Press the X in the top right of this window to get rid of it.

    7. All done. Now you can close PST and consider this a job well done. Pat yourself on the back, you prevented yourself from losing your life saving of cell phone contacts! Now, dont let it happen again! Just kidding.

RSD CDMA General, an alternative to PST and/or MSU

In this guide I will have you install RSD CDMA General instead of MSU or PST. RSD General will be as nice as MSU and do most everything that PST does, but it does it better. This guide assumes you've already got the USB Drivers for your phone installed and working. Do NOT plug your phone in until told to do so later in this guide.

First, you may aquire RSD CDMA General version 5.1.6 here. After clicking on that link download it to a location on your PC where you will remember where you put it. Then double click on the file and then click the "Install" button. All this action will do is extract the .msi file. Then double click on the RSD_CDMA_General_5.1.6_Installation.msi file and the program will install. The MOST important thing to note is that either during the install or the first run of this program, if your firewall program asks whether or not to 'block' it, click the "Block" button.

Now, go ahead and fire this bad boy up. In the main window, it will ask you to "please power up your phone and plug it in" and the lower window will say, "Failed to parse matrix file, Please contact your system administrator". Don't worry about that message, it is NORMAL with this software. Go ahead and plug your phone in now.

After plugging your phone in, your comp and phone should 'beep' a few times and additional software should automatically be installed (unless you've already used PST). Just like MSU (if you've used MSU), your cursor should change to a little phone and then your ESN and f/w version should be shown in the upper window. In the main window you will see a message in red saying, "If you are upgrading your software or doing a swap operation, this phone is not supported. You may however continue to use the phone provisioning menu", and under it in black a "Please disconnect this phone" message. This is TOTALLY NORMAL! Congrats, you have RSD CDMA General set-up and working properly.

Finally, I post this guide because I had so much trouble with PST which in my book stands for Piece of Shite and Troublesome. RSD General can be used in place of PST/MSU to put your phone in the proper mode for using P2KSeem, P2K Commander; it can be used to backup your phonebook and if you have a 'flashable' phone, it will do all the backups/restores more reliably than PST if you chose to flash.

Simple Guided Walk-Through for V3M/V3C in P2K for Ringtones, Pics, Videos.

I'm only putting this here because that’s what the page states for me to do.

This is a simple very guided walk-through on getting you're Verizon V3C/V3M and any other phone that is compatible setup and properly connected.

First off you are going to pick yourself up a mini USB to standard USB 2.0 cable and then you are going to want to download 2 programs before you start.

1. P2K Commander. (Save it to a familiar location in your computer.)
2. Motorola Software Updater. (Also save to a good location.)

BOTH OF THESE PROGRAMS ARE FREE TO D/L. THEY ARE LOCATED IN THE SOFTWARE SECTION WHICH IS LINKED AT THE TOP OF THIS PAGE.

Next. Make sure you’re phone has a good charge. If you’re phone mistakenly gets unplugged or shuts off while transferring files it could result in having your phone's software corrupted.

Okay, now that we have the necessary hardware/software we are ready to start.

Go ahead and double click on the file named MSU (Motorola Software Updater)
If it prompts to unzip the files just click unzip files here, but it should automatically do this on its own and bring you to the install screen.

At the main screen we are going to click "NEXT" click next again Click "Agree" now click next to confirm you're install. Now the "Launch MSU Software update" should be checked already. Click CLOSE.

Now on you're computer windows may have a prompt that comes up asking to block or unblock this software, make sure you click unblock. Or you won’t be able to get in.

OK now MSU should be opened up and ready to search for your phone.

Lets go ahead and plug you're USB cable in to a desired USB port on the back of your computer. NOTE. Try and keep this cable in for now on, and continue to try and use the same USB port for every file transfer for now on.

Ok after you plug you're phone in, don’t be alarmed you're phone and computer may beep a few times. You should get a couple popups on the bottom saying it found new hardware and is installing. This is GOOD! DO NOT CLICK ANYTHING UNTIL THIS HAS COMPLETLY FINISHED. MSU should automatically detect and come back on screen for you to see you're MEID number. If it says N/A for MODEL NUMBER AND OPERATOR NUMBER it is ok, that’s fine and it doesn’t need it.

Ok now let’s go ahead and close any running applications such as AOL, games, any programs that are running. CLOSE now!

Now we are going to find where you saved P2K Commander. Open the File up and click on the icon that looks like a Yellow Star that says P2K Commander, a security warning may pop up asking you what you want to do. Click RUN.

Now another box will come up after the program loaded. It will be a "Noob Reminder" which is say "Selected Partition is :a" and "This can be modified in the options dialogue" which after you get more familiar with the software you can change it around and have it not pop up anymore. For now just click OK.

Now this software uses a file standard file transfer system which goes LEFT to RIGHT. So whatever you want to transfer is going to come from the left hand column and go into the right hand column where you're phone settings will be.

You will notice on the left hand side on the bottom there is a little history box of what is going on and what has been done so far. YOU may get stuff in there that says "GENERIC FAILURE, AND VOLUME NAME FAILURE" THIS IS NORMAL!!

Next the left hand column is going to be used to find you're files that you want to be transferred.

The right hand column we are going to click on the topmost part of the program where there is a little dropdown arrow next to where it says "REREAD"
Now click P2K Mobile Phone. Now this program will be loading all you're phone files. Give it a few seconds you can watch the progress of it on the bottom where the blank bar should be filling up with little green bars.

Now that everything is loaded and connected properly we can start by loading ringtones.

First find a ringtone of you're choice from the MEDIA section on the top of hacktherazr.com

Download the ringtone to an easy location, I suggest making a folder in C: named ringtones, makes it easier for P2K and yourself to navigate.

Next go back and open up P2K, move over to the right hand side column and open up P2K Mobile phone from the dropdown arrow next to the "reread" button, as explained previously.

Underneath where is says filename there will be a folder called "a" double click that. Double click Motorola, double click shared, double click ringtone, you should see a list of all you're factory ringtones DO NOT DELETE ANYTHING OUT OF HERE. I WILL EXPLAIN THIS IN A MINUTE...

Ok now that you have the directory opened up for you're phone to receive mp3's, we will now move over to the left hand column.

Go up to where it says "reread" again on the left-hand side, and click the dropdown button CLICK C:\, now you should have a list of files that are showed when you click C: from you're computer itself.

OK... Now we can find the folder that you named "Ringtones" or whatever you called it. Double Click that folder. Now you should see the file that you have downloaded from this wonderful website.

Click ONCE! On the ringtone file. Now move you're cursor down to the bottom right and click "COPY", Wait until the progress bar on the bottom has completely finished before doing anything else. Once it’s done it will be a full line of green bars.

Now make sure you see you're file in the right hand column where you're phone files are located. If it’s in there GREAT! If not repeat the process.

Now before we do anything else we have to delete a file named MYToneDB.db

To find this file follow me... Double the icon that looks like a little hard drive, it is located exactly under the tab named Filename. Like I said it will look like a little hard drive of some sort with 2 little dots next to it and the file size will say

It should be the first file on the list. Now let’s double click that, double click it again, and double click it again, now we should be back to our main files directory. Scroll down and find the file named MyToneDB.db, click that file once to highlight it, and then click DELETE. This file has to be deleted upon system restart for you're new ringtones to be recreated and useable. Don’t worry this file does come back upon restart. DELETING THIS FILE IS ONLY APPLICABLE FOR INSTALLING RINGTONES; YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DELETE THIS FOR WALLPAPER OR VIDEOS.

NOW after you have deleted that file, click on Restart. Watch you outside LCD to come back to normal, and wait for any beeps to stop that may be coming from you're phone or the computer which in this case it is reconnected itself to MSU AND P2K. At this point I like to exit out of P2K and then MSU, unplug the phone sometimes it likes to restart itself on its own again after all of this, if so don’t be alarmed this is fine, Wait until it comes back and has loaded fully.

Go ahead and check to see if you're ringtone(s) are available.

Now for deleting, I RECOMMEND YOU DO NOT DELETE ANYTHING OUT OF YOUR PHONE.
But if you are running out of space !!!!!MAKE 110% SURE THAT ANY RINGTONES OR WALLPAPERS YOU ARE GOING TO DELETE, MAKE SURE SURE SURE SURE THAT THEY ARE NOT BEING USED BY ANYTHING IN YOUR PHONE, MAKE 200% THAT THEY ARE NOT SET AS ANY RINGER OR WALLPAPER FOR ANYTHING, IF YOU DELETE SOMETHING THAT IS BEING USED BY THE PHONE AT THE TIME OF DELETING, IT COULD LOCK YOU'RE PHONE UP AND YOU WILL HAVE A PAPERWEIGHT.

UPLOADING PICTURES...............

Now for uploading Pictures follow the same exact steps as above to get you're phone connected and setup in P2K, but instead of clicking on Ringtones, double click on the folder named "Picture" and at this time you can go ahead and make another folder in your C:\ named "Razr Pics" or whatever it is you like. Download one of the many wonderful pics we have made for you guys to download in the MEDIA section under wallpapers, click you're applicable phone type.

Save it to the folder you have just created

Go back into P2K commander, find it... copy it like we did with the ringtones, be sure you have it set to go into you're pictures and you didn’t mistakenly click ringtones again. Go ahead and copy it and that’s it, it’s not necessary but I recommend restarting you're phone using P2K or unplugging it and manually restarting it. Go in and play with you're new wallpaper!

Uploading Videos.............

Exactly the same as pictures, but make a new file in C:\ named videos, you can find videos in hacktherazr.com under media, THE ONLY TYPE OF VIDEOS ALLOWED IN OUR PHONES ARE 3gp, .3g2, and .mp4. Do exactly the same thing as stated before for setup and transfer. NO DELETING OF ANY FILES IS NEEDED FOR THIS EITHER.

Dial Up Networking

This section relates to the Razr Phones provided by Verizon Wireless only.

So you live in a shack in the mountains but happen to have a laptop and a v3m or v3c but you just gotta check your email. Well as long as you have reception on your phone, you should be able to get truly wireless internet.

But what does it cost?! Nothing but minutes my friend... nothing but minutes. So yes that does mean that if its after 9 or its a saturday (free nights and weekends) then technically, its 100% free weeee! Now tell me how much you love your Razr :)

How the hell? This procedure is called tethering. With Verizon's broadband service you are able to tether using EVDO, which is significantly faster then 1x. However, the Razr is not allowed/capable of tethering via EVDO and instead only works with 1x. Actually using the v3c / v3m for internet is not even a normally possible function with these Razr's however it leaves you to wonder, why would you want to disable such a killer feature? It seems to me like its just another Razr selling point, but who cares -- on to the guide.

For some saucy wireless internet you'll need:
* Motorola Razr V3M / V3C for Verizon
* USB Cable
* A laptop or other PC
* EVDO disabled (GUIDE)

A few notes before we begin...

Verizon fixed DUN backdoor -- this thread contains a fix
* If EVDO is not disabled, this will not work
* Disable any shape or form of internet, including routers, wifi, and laptop built-in wifi
* A seem edit is required to make this work
* Being connected uses minutes only
* Arn't you excited?

Go razr internet, go razr internet, go!

    1. Make sure that EVDO is disabled! (GUIDE)

    2. Perform a seem edit that "Enables 1xRTT Settings and Service Type (QNC, Packet, Auto) - on"

Enable Dial Up Networking (DUN) WORKS

Dial Up Networking on a PPC

This section relates to the Razr Phones provided by Verizon Wireless only.

If you have a Palm Pilot, Dell Axim, etc. that you want free internet on, the solution is finally here. Thanks to Trimax84 you can now have DUN on your handheld device! (Other than your RAZR)

* Motorola Razr V3M / V3C for Verizon
* USB Cable
* A laptop or other PC
* EVDO disabled (GUIDE)

A few notes before we begin...

* If EVDO is not disabled, this will not work
* Disable any shape or form of internet, including routers, wifi, and laptop built-in wifi
* A seem edit is required to make this work
* Being connected uses minutes only
* Arn't you excited?

    2742 Offset 6a check bit 3

    awuhzuh?!

Guide on how to perform a seem edit

A list of other seem edits

    3. Another Seem Edit is required which enables access to the nvm_factory file (necessary for next step)

Enable Access to nvm_factory file WORKS
    2742 Offset 5a check bit 7

4.Download QPST here Then do this: It takes 15-20 mins or so.

    5. Pair the phone with the PDA.

    6. Make the settings look just like the ones in this guide

    Phone Number (to dial): #777

    Username: #MyNumber#@vzw3g.com

    Password: vzw

I don't have the advanced options with unencrypted passwords (PAP) and all that, but by using QPST the need for these was circumvented.

    7. Now make sure the phone is set to use the connection that you just set up! (Seems simple, right?)
I was stuck here for the longest time. My phone would go from "Packet Data" to DORMANT and sit there, so I knew it was connected but no data was being transferred.

Navigate to Settings --> Connections --> Advanced --> Select Networks (that is for WM5 on my Axim, yours could be different).
Make sure "Programs that automatically connect to the Internet should connect using:" is set to the proper connection.

My said ISP but I had to change it to "My Work Network" (default name given to the bluetooth connection).

This may mess things up when trying to connect using WLAN, but just change this back and it should be fine.

    NOTES

So there it is. Free (meaning free nights and weekends since minutes are charged) internet on my Dell Axim x51v from anywhere where I have Verizon service! I hope it was easy enough to follow. Hopefully it spares other people everything I had to deal with.

Get FREE WAP

This section relates to the Razr Phones provided by Verizon Wireless only.

What do you mean WAP isn't FREE?! Well.. usually in order to access the WAP or Wireless Web you need to call Verizon's customer service and pay a monthly fee for WAP access. If you have a messaging package though, often times wireless WAP is included. However, regardless, you will still be using minutes -- whether or not you use this FREE WAP modification or not.

What this modification does is changes the proxy that you use to actually access the WAP. When you use Verizon's proxy, which is default, you get charged for minutes usage AND for actual transfer of data (uploading/downloading). So in essence, by changing the proxy, you avoid paying the extra fee's for anything and everything you see on the WAP.

Also, it has been reported that using this FREE WAP modification also means that you -dont- have to sign up for access to the wireless web... thats right... that means that is only uses minutes... no monthly fee, no data charges, just minutes. And yes, that means that FREE nights and weekends means absolutely FREE WAP.

NEW! Now featuring the Official Hack the Razr FREE WAP proxy.
We here at hacktherazr.com have purchased a completely seperate server to host our very own public, FREE WAP proxy. All you have to do is register for an account at our forum, and our system will automatically create your own, personal, completely safe and secure, WAP account with your forum name and password as the WAP proxy username and password. This will allow you to actually save sessions and cookies so that you can have a site remember your login and then automatically log you (and only you) back into that gmail account for instance. Oh, and did we mention its free?

This site is visitor supported and we appreciate any and all donations. Every donations goes directly towards paying for the actual FREE WAP server itself, as we do have a completely seperate dedicated server setup for the sole purpose of FREE WAP :) If you would like to make a donation you could either click the make a donation link below, or you could click on some advertisement's on the site that you are genuinely interested in, as that helps us pay for the server as well. Thanks!

For this guide we will be using:
* Motorola Razr V3C / V3M for Verizon
* Programming Menu & "Web Sessions"
* The Official HTR FREE WAP Proxy!
* For newer Razr's you may need to do this seem edit:
Enable websessions= seem 2742, record 1, bytes 0000, offset 0018 bit 5

How to get FREE WAP, the easy way

*** REQUIRED FOR NEW RAZRS FROM VERIZON
Razrs with the latest firmware from Verizon, or rather recently purchased Razrs, came with a new firmware that disable the WEB SESSION menu that is REQUIRED to use this guide. You MUST perform this seem edit in order to show the web session that is needed to get this hack to work.

    REQUIRED SEEM EDIT - Enable websessions= seem 2742, record 1, bytes 0000, offset 0018 bit 5

    1. Open your phone. Press #0SETUP* or #073887* -- QUICKLY -- If you pause while typing #0SETUP* in, it may not work. Also note that thats a ZERO [0] not an OH [O]

    2. "Enter Security Code:" should be on the screen - type 000000 which is SIX [6] ZERO's [000000] and then Press the right soft-key which is the top-right button, closest to the screen.

    3. Web sessions should be the first item in the list, and should be highlighted. Press the right soft-key for Select

    4. Scroll down to highlight [New Entry] and then press Select

    5. Here we will setup the new web session to in essence give us FREE WAP. Please note that all the entries you will be making can be done by first highlighting the field you want to change, and then simply begin typing your entry. You do not have to press anything to begin editing, but if you choose to, you can press the center main menu button.

    6. You must have previously registered at our Forum to have your own WAP account.
To set up a wap / forum account, please register here
If you have forgotten your password, click to retrieve your password

Name: Htr       [Here you can name the websession whatever you want]
Homepage: http://homepage       [Un-changeable, but our proxy automatically sends you to wap.hacktherazr.com]
User ID: forum-Name       [Enter your forum username exactly as you have it, this is case sensitive]
Password: YoUr-PaSSworD       [Enter your forum password exactly as you have it, this is case sensitive]
Gateway IP 1: 000.000.000.000       [You do not need to change this]
Gateway 1: wap.hacktherazr.com       [Primary FREE WAP server gateway address]
Port 1: 9201       [You do not need to change this, the FREE WAP server is setup on port 9201]
E2E Port 1: 9201       [You do not need to change this]
LXL Port 1: 9201       [You do not need to change this]
Gateway 2: hacktherazr.com       [OPTIONAL Secondary FREE WAP server gateway address]
Port 1: 9201       [You do not need to change this, the FREE WAP server is setup on port 9201]
E2E Port 1: 9201       [You do not need to change this]
LXL Port 1: 9201       [You do not need to change this]

    7. Now click Done and you're almost there!

    8. Highlight your new websession and then press the center main menu button.
You should now find yourself happily connecting to the official HTR FREE WAP proxy, with your very own WAP account. If you have any problems, please continue reading.

Also note that if you want to setup multiple proxies and easily switch to a different web session, then press ##BROWSER (##2769737) to go directly to the web session menu. You cannot alter the username/password/port through this method.

    TROUBLESHOOTING

For Wireless Internet Services, please dial *611.
We are unsure why this happens, but it does sometimes, and the usual easy fix for it is to go back into the Web Sessions menu, select, activate, and actually use the REAL verizon wap proxy. Verify that you are able to connect with that. Then, open up Web Sessions and switch back to the HTR FREE WAP proxy, and it should work.

    "Network Connection Lost" message
The server does restart every 60 minutes so that we can prevent the server from crashing and staying offline for extend periods of time. If you are actively browsing the WAP while our server restarts, you will get a "Network connection lost" message for about 10 seconds and then everything will go back to normal and you can continue right where you left off.

    "Authentication failed"
Make sure that when you were entering your forum password into the websession that the first letter was NOT capital. Sometimes the razr, by default, makes the first letter of inputed passwords Capital. One method is inputing the same Lletter twice and then going back and deleting that letter.

Also, sometimes if your password is too long or has funky characters in it, it might cause you to get locked out of the system. Simply try and change your password to something simpler and/or shorter just to test and see if that is the issue.

Hello from linux and dun

So I finally, after multiple different days of searching and trying, got my v3m, that's flashed to Alltel, to connect and dial up from linux (Ubuntu 7.10 specifically).

First off EVDO disabled like usual. And also you need the no pap thing that would let you use dun from a palm pilot or what not. This is because the dialing program ppp in linux does not let you specify security options and such as you can do with the winders dialer.

So follow this guide up to and including #4 http://www.hacktherazr.com/guides/verizon.dun.ppc.php.

This next part is modified from: http://www.blackberryforums.com/linux-users-corner/101715-how-verizon-8703e-usb-tethered-linux-ubuntu-7-10-a.html.

At the terminal type: tail -f /var/log/messages
Then plug your phone into your computer, you should see something like this:

Apr 8 00:19:49 Kevin-server kernel: [910921.674934] usb 1-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
Apr 8 00:19:49 Kevin-server kernel: [910921.677897] cdc_acm 1-1:1.0: ttyACM0: USB ACM device

We are looking for the ttyACM0 part telling you how to access your phone from linux.

Do a ctrl+c then type: sudo gedit /etc/ppp/peers/1xdun
Feel free to replace gedit with your favorite text editor especially if you are not using gnome.

Now paste into this new blank file:

debug debug debug
nodetach
/dev/*the tty part we found earlier or what ever it was*
115200
connect "/usr/sbin/chat -f /etc/chatscripts/1xdun"
nomultilink
defaultroute
noipdefault
ipcp-restart 7
ipcp-accept-local
ipcp-accept-remote
# added this, so that it doesn't disconnect after few mn of innactivity
lcp-echo-interval 0
lcp-echo-failure 999
modem
noauth
nocrtscts
noipdefault
novj # refused anyway, no point in trying every time
usepeerdns
user *yournumber*@vzw3g.com
password vzw

Replacing the things inside of *'s and then save and close.

Next type: sudo gedit /etc/chatscripts/1xdun
Again replace gedit if you want/need.

And paste into the new file:

ABORT BUSY ABORT 'NO CARRIER' ABORT VOICE ABORT 'NO DIALTONE' ABORT 'NO DIAL TONE' ABORT 'NO ANSWER' ABORT DELAYED ABORT ERROR
SAY "Initializing\n"
'' ATZ
OK-AT-OK ATDT#777
CONNECT \d\c

Note that everything from ABORT until before SAY should be on one line, and then save and close.

Now you should be able to type: sudo pppd call 1xdun
If you open a second terminal and type: ifconfig ppp and then see something like:

ppp0 Link encap:Point-to-Point Protocol
          inet addr:70.193.249.184 P-t-P:66.174.201.6 Mask:255.255.255.255
UP POINTOPOINT RUNNING NOARP MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
          RX packets:105 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:126 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:3
          RX bytes:39774 (38.8 KB) TX bytes:22668 (22.1 KB)

If you do then you should be golden and be able to surf. If not, post back here with the output after running the pppd call 1xdun command. Also I will try to help out with any questions and stuff relating to this as best I can, so feel free.

How to disable EVDO for a Verizon V3C / V3M

This section relates to the Razr Phones provided by Verizon Wireless only.

If you live in an area where your phone constantly switches back and forth between EVDO and 1X then its possible that it is draining the battery of your V3C faster then normal. Disabling EVDO on your Razr in this scenaro has been reported to indeed improve battery life. However, disabling EVDO on your phone renders you temporarily unable to view vCast. Temporarily because you can (with learning the routine) easily disable and enable EVDO at any time. The following is a guide on how to do, just that.

For this guide we will be using: * Motorola Razr V3C / V3M for Verizon * Programming Menu & test mode

How to disable EVDO for a Verizon V3C / V3M
    1. Open your phone. Press ##DEBUG aka ##33284 -- QUICKLY -- which is how you activate test mode, so that we can essentially disable EVDO

Also take note that pressing ##DEBUG is how you DISABLE test mode as well. If you do not disable test mode, you will get the FTS screen at boot up and when you accidently do a CLR left soft-key.
    2. If you notice that the number 4 didnt get entered, thats a good thing, and means that when you pressed the 4 that TEST MODE was activated.

If you see the last 4 entered in ##DEBUG aka ##33284 then you need to press end to clear the screen and type ##DEBUG again
    3. Now press the CLR button then the top left soft key. It should now display a full white screen that says FTS at the top.

If it doesnt have a white background and say FTS, then press END and try CLR then left soft key one more time. If it still doesnt work, you need to press ##DEBUG again to activate test mode
    4. Press the right soft-key key *3 TIMES* or until you see at the top "ServOpt: NoChg" - "AudioOpt: Auto"
    5. Press the down key *8 TIMES* or until your see a > next to HDR Pref like so -- >HDR Pref: Auto
Being set to auto means that the phone is looking for both EVDO and 1x reception, and that it will automatically choose EVDO over 1x, should EVDO coverage be available
    6. Press the right soft-key TWICE labeled CHANGE or until it says >HDR Pref: cdma
This is telling the phone to disregard EVDO coverage and simply look for and connect to 1x coverage.
There is no significant difference in the strength of reception when forcing your phone to look for 1x coverage. You will receive same, if not better reception, in areas where an EVDO connection is weak and essentially giving you poor coverage and poor battery life.
    7. Press the left soft-key ONCE labeled EXIT and it will flash white real quick, then appear to be frozen...
    8. Your phone is resetting. You will not be able to press for NEXT or PREV. You have to wait about 5-10 seconds until you CAN press the right or left soft-key for NEXT or PREV. The screens may cycle a couple different screens indicating that its ready.
    9. Press the CLR button and then press the left soft-key to get out of the programming menu.
    10. EVDO is officially disabled and capable of being re-enabled. However, test mode is still running in the background and we need to turn it off. We will go back to the programming menu.
    11. Press ##DEBUG or #33284 -- QUICKLY -- to disable test mode, make sure you do this, or you will get the white FTS screen.
    12. All Done! weeeeee! now you should experience longer battery life which makes everybody happy. Also notice that this process is easy enough to remember and do at any time. You can quickly re-enable EVDO to get faster WAP speeds and to use get it now and vcast... its all just a test mode away :)

Flashing

Flashing away from the VZW firmware

The new and Improved Vivo Flash!

Here is my guide for getting your VZW phone working on Verizon's network after flashing to Vivo. I think I have now ironed out the 'wrinkles' that it used to have. If your phone uses a MEID to register on the VZW network, DO NOT READ THIS GUIDE! It will not work for you. If your phone still uses an ESN to register on the VZW network but has been updated to the newer firmware version(s) 24_01.19.xx or above, STOP NOW AND DO NOT USE THIS GUIDE! If you do NOT know how to tell these differences, STOP NOW AND DO NOT READ/USE THIS GUIDE until you at least know the difference!
Mark Venture was kind enough to grant me permission to use/copy some of the information in his Vivo Monster 1 guide for use in my article here. I will deviate from his guide as I had better luck using different software than he has on his site.

First things first, some more disclaimers:

  1. PLEASE read this entire guide carefully before you attempt this. And then read it again, hell read it three times, then I would reccommend you print it out so you can check off the steps as you go.
  2. This guide is intended for folks want to use the Vivo software on their phone and use Verizon Wireless as their provider.
  3. THIS WILL VOID ANY WARRANTY you may still have on your phone and Verizon will NOT give you any support if they find out you have non-Verizon firmware on your phone.
  4. This process uses dangerous tools. One wrong click, getting in a hurry, or not following these steps exactly will probably give you a non-working phone. So, don't hold me responsible if you don't follow these steps correctly, please.
  5. Prior to using this guide, please make sure that everything DATA works while it is still on the Verizon firmware. DATA includes Mobile Web (WAP), Get it now (GIN), pix/flix messages (MMS). Also make sure that it is up-to-date as well. You can do this by dialing *22899 on your phone and waiting until it shows "Activation Successful". Failure to do this will probably mean failure to get DATA working in the end.
  6. Before you flash your phone, the best method to keep DATA working is to activate another EVDO phone on your account. You can do this by using the "on line ESN swapper" to activate another phone on your account. If you DO in fact have another EVDO phone to activate, make sure you power off the phone you want to flash before you continue.
    • To use the ESN switcher go, here and click the "Activate Equipment" link in the "Existing or Replacement Equipment" box.
    • You will then be asked to log in to your VZW account. After doing so, you will get the message box about entering an unsecure area, go ahead and click "Ok". And you may or may nat be asked for your home zip code.
    • Then you will be back at the same page where you started. Click the same link mentioned above again.
    • Then go ahead and enter the ESN for your 'spare' phone and give the reason in the "Reason for Change" drop down box as "Other" or "Received phone from other Source".
      • It has been said that you can 'cheat' here and just enter a fictitious ESN by bumping the last digit of your existing ESN up by one or two digits, but I didn't do this, so I can't guarantee your success.
    • After completing the process to switch to your spare phone, go ahead and dial *22899 on that (the other) phone to make sure it is fully activated on your account.
      • If you do not have another phone to activate, it has been suggested to make use of the 'Airplane Mode' RIGHT after you flash your phone to Vivo. This method worked for me very well, but I think it's because I live in a USCC 'partner' area and USCC does not really allow DATA services on their towers from Verizon phones. BUT even still, this method may still work for you, but I have no guarantees as my situation is as I stated. Using the Airplane Mode will be covered further along in this article.
  7. Finally, I took much care in writing this guide while trying to perform these steps as well on a 'spare' V3m so I could give a bit more detailed info. But since it was on my spare V3m that I never actually activated and therefore did NOT actually follow items five and six above, some things may or may not have worked a little differently for me while writing this guide, therefore I just went ahead and wrote what I think worked for me the last time I flashed. SO PLEASE CONSIDER THIS A WORK IN PROGRESS.

One note here before I continue. I will ask you to "power cycle" your phone several times. This simply involves turning your phone off for a few seconds and then turning it back on.

Now to the required software list. Now, at this time I will not include the steps you need to use to get this software working on your phone as I see that it would make this already long article into about 20-30 pages. So, I will assume you already know how to use this software or you can read my articles about getting all this software working here on my site. The links to the guides to getting this software working on your phone are in my "Required Drivers/Software" and "Flashing" categories easily accessed by clicking on the menu to the left. Here is the list, and in the future I might make each item 'clickable' so you can download these software items as well. The last two items (#9 & #10) in my list will have downloads so make sure you click on those links and follow the instructions there as they will give you some files that will be nessessary for completion of this process.

So, the REQUIRED software list:

  1. Motorola USB Handset Drivers.
  2. RSD CDMA General 5.1.6. Or what ever version that works best for you, mine is 5.1.6.
  3. P2K Seem editor.
  4. P2K Commander. My site has version 4.9.E
  5. QPST. The only version that works for this phone and flash, 2.7 build 215 is the only one you'll find linked in the guide at my site.
  6. RadioComm. As above, the only version you'll find linked at my site is the one you'll need for this phone/flash. Please read my article about it.
  7. RSD Lite. This is the actual flashing software. I used the heck out of it with another phone the other day, no probs.
  8. Bitpim. Mark's guide suggests you use this for some of your backups, but I never needed them. You are welcome to use it, just in case.
  9. Here is the actual flash file, and this other file that you'll need later in the guide, as it contains the scripts and files you'll use with P2KCommander later during the restore process. The second one is what Mark's guide refers to as VIVO V3M System Files. MAKE sure you do click and download these. I suggest downloading them to your desktop. After downloading these files, click (or double click) them and just hit the "Install" button and they will self-extract to a folder within the location to where you downloaded them.
  10. Finally, (I almost forgot) you'll want the MonsterSeems file that you'll use during the RadioComm backup of your seem files. You WILL need to right click that link and select "Save Target As" to make sure it doesn't get a .txt appended to the end of it.

Step One, REQUIRED BACKUPS:

1a). Plug in your phone, then fire up the QPST Configuration program. Make sure you select the port that shows your phone (SURF 6500- etc.) then use the "Start Clients" pull down menu. Select "SERVICE PROGRAMMING". At the phone selection screen, make sure your phone is listed and highlighted, click the "OK" button. Then click the "Read from Phone" button. On the enter "Service Programming Code" window, it will ask you to enter your phone's service programming code. It should already be defaulted to "000000", click OK. The only reason this code might be different is if you have changed this code. When the read is complete, and you see the values filled in, click the "Save to File" button. The file name box will automatically fill in your phone's ESN # followed by _sp. Click the "Save" button. Save it somewhere where you'll remember where it is. You may now click the red 'x' buttons to exit this program.

1b). Unplug your phone from your PC and power cycle it. Now fire up RSD CDMA General. This is my biggest departure from Mark's guide. I think that PST stands for Piece of Shit and Troublesome. Not only that, but from my experience and others, nobody knows when PST is actually connected and/or REALLY reading the nessessary files from your phone. Anyways, don't plug in your phone until RSD CDMA General asks you to do so. After a bit, your ESN will be shown in the upper window. Then click on the ICON for "Phone Provisioning". I may take a while before the program responds. There will be a message in the lower window saying, "Incorrect Matrix File Provided. Carrier Default Values Loaded". This is normal. In the "SETTINGS" window to the left (but not the far left), there will be a list of check boxes and links. Check the following check boxes:

  1. CDMA NAM
  2. PRL
  3. Browser
  4. ERI
  5. BREW
  6. CDMA 1X GPS
  7. EVDO
  8. Feature Setting
  9. Mobile IP
  10. RTT Data
  11. MMS Setting
  12. Phonebook (Just for kicks), you might even check Datebook if you want, either of these aren't totally nessessary.

Once you've checked these boxes, go ahead and click the "Read Phone" button. The lower window will say "Provisioning Operation Started" and you'll see several progress bars. This process will take a while, and during the process your phone will restart once or twice, involving some USB 'beeps' and some 'clicking' sounds as well. JUST BE PATIENT, please. Now all these files might not be nessessary, but WTF, it's better to have more than not enough.

When RSD CDMA General is done, you will have a message in the lower window stating "Provisioning has successfully read from phone" and the main window will have "CDMA NAM" as the heading. Make a note of your "Mobile Identification Number (7 digits)[aka MIN]" and then scroll down a bit to your "Mobile Directory Number (Phone Number[aka MDN])" and write both of these values down as you may need these later in the guide. Now at this point, go to the little window to the left of the main window and click the link for the first item, "CDMA NAM". Then click the box, "Save File" and save it where you will remember it's location later. It should have an extension of .nam. The lower window should give you a message "Provisioning has successfully saved the file". Go ahead and go on down the above list, first clicking on the link next to the check box, waiting for a moment or two, then clicking on the "Save File" box. Here is the list again (from #2 on down), just make sure the extensions are correct:

  1. PRL = .rla
  2. Browser = .rtb If you have already added other WAP proxies before, you may have to go through and change each one in "User type" to "Factory stored" in the drop down list there, otherwise this file will not save successfully.
  3. ERI = .eri2
  4. BREW = .brw
  5. CDMA 1X GPS = .gps Not sure if this file is required, but, WTF.
  6. EVDO = .edo This is another one file that I haven't explored yet, but again nice to have, just in case.
  7. Feature Setting = .ftr This one may give you a message in red in the main window, just go ahead and save it, but don't edit it.
  8. Mobile IP = .mip
  9. RTT Data = .rtd
  10. MMS Setting = .mms MAKE SURE that this extension is correct. Once I didn't pay attention and it got a .vms extension and was useless in the restore process. BUT I may have found a 'workaround' to this, more may be revealed. . .
  11. Phonebook = .csv Now, of course this is just your phonebook, so it's not required for a successful flash, but if you hadn't saved your contacts yet, now you have.
  12. Finally just make a mental note of the "Multiple Loading" link. I am not sure this will come in handy for this flash, but . . . .

OK, now it's ok to exit this program and continue on. Unplug your phone from your PC and power cycle it before the next step.

1c). Use RadioComm to backup your seems. Make sure you have already correctly downloaded the MonsterSeems.NVM file in part 10 of my required software list. If not, then right click the above linke and use the "Save Target As" option to make sure it doesn't get a different extension appended to it. Plug in your phone first and then fire up RadioComm. When prompted about the Moto Driver Installation setup, click CANCEL. Do NOT run the Moto Driver Installation! You may also get a message about how old your RadioComm is, just click "OK" here as well. I don't know why, but this is what I saw, it's a bit different than Mark's guide as well and your results may vary:

  1. Then you may have a small RadioComm window. Chose the first (or top) drop down list where it says "Select MA to use" and drop down to the "CDMA 1X 6500 Chipset Base". In the second drop down list, select "M-Link USB Driver". Then the main window will open.
  2. In this bigger main window, use the "Main" pulldown menu (the one on the top left) and verify that the checks are set correctly as indicated above. "Main -> MA -> CDMA1X -> 6500 Chipset Base".
  3. Now go to the "Settings" menu drop down list and make sure the checks are set thusly: "Settings -> USB -> M-Link USB Driver".
  4. In the main RadioComm window there will be many tabs. Click on the "P2K 1" tab. The PC should 'beep' and the Radio Detection (in the far right) should change to a round green circle.
  5. Use the "Features" (pull down) menu and select "NV / SEEM". A new window will open, the title of which will be, "RC SEEM".
  6. To the right will be a few boxes, the one you want will be under "Table" and the box you want to click will be "Open". You will then be presented with the usual Windows "Browse for File" window and at this point look for the Monster Seems-1c.NVM file that you have saved.
  7. Now under the "Action" box, click on the "Read" button. You will see a progress bar and when it's done, then go back up to the "Table" section and click on the "Save" button. You will again be presented with a Windows box with the title of "Save to File". Save it. The file name will default to your ESN with an extension of .NVM. You may now exit this program. Unplug your phone, and perform a power cycle again. This time it may not go as easily, and you may have to remove your battery and power your phone back on.

There is a table of the seems that this process backs up, but I won't include it here for now. Also, some people prefer to backup their seems manually using P2K Seem, but again, I will not include this process here either, for now.

Step Two, Flash your PHONE's FIRMWARE:

IF YOU HAD ANY ERRORS whatsoever DURING THE BACKUP FROCESS IN STEP ONE, STOP NOW. DO NOT FLASH YOUR PHONE!

2a). MAKE SURE YOUR PHONE's BATTERY IS FULLY CHARGED BEFORE YOU DO THIS STEP! ALSO, remove your Transflash card if you have one BEFORE you flash. Failure to do so will keep your phone in USB Mass Storage mode. So, you've already got the Vivo flash file from my required software list, item # 9 and followed the instructions for extracting it.

  1. Go ahead and disconnect your phone, power cycle it, and then plug it back in. Now go ahead and fire up RSD Lite. If this is your first time doing so, RSD Lite may install some more drivers, go ahead and wait until this is done.
  2. Your phone should show up as "Connected" under the "Status" tab of the bottom window. Just to the left of that it should show your phone's ESN. Near the top should be a box showing "Filename" and to the left of that will be a little box with "...". Click on that box and browse to where you have saved the flash file that you have already "Installed" (i.e. extracted) and should have an .shx extension on it.
  3. Once you click on that file, RSD Lite will fill in the "File Properties" box with the info of your Vivo flash you selected.
  4. Just to the right, there will be a box, "Start". Click on that. If this is your first time using RSD Lite, another driver may install, "Flashing Interface". It should auto-install, but sometime later I will give the location for installation, just in case. Be very patient in this part as it will take a while.
  5. You will see a few different progress bars, and when the flashing process is complete the status column in the lower portion may state either "Phone is being rebooted" and under the "Progress" column it will show "Executed: 100%" and/or under the "Progress" column it may say "Please Manually Power up this Phone".
  6. Either way, if your phone itself is showing that it's charging (Recarreg. Bateria), go ahead and disconnect the phone from your PC. Then go ahead and quit RSD Lite. You may get a warning message about damaging your phone, it's OK, you've already disconnected it, right? Go ahead and power your phone up, when you do, you may get a message, "Requer Ativacao", please just press the center menu button.

2b). Now, the last part of the flashing process is to perform a Master Reset/Master Clear. The menus will be in Portugese, so here's the sequence (I've included the keypad shortcuts for your convenience):

  1. menu (center button) -> Mais (#9) -> Configuracoes (#3) -> Config Inicial (#7) -> Master Reset will be the next to last option in this menu. When prompted for Dig Codigo Segur, enter 000000 and press the left soft key twice. That's Master Reset, if or when you get the "Requer Ativacao" message again, press the center menu button.
  2. menu (center button) -> Mais (#9) -> Configuracoes (#3) -> Config Inicial (#7) -> Master Clear will be the last option in this menu. When prompted for Dig Cidigo Segur, enter 000000 and press the left soft key twice. That's Master Clear, again if you get the "Requer Ativacao" message, press the center menu button.

2c). Since we're in America let's get this bad boy to speak English and also get it back to the right mode for the rest of this stuff (again I've got the keypad shortcuts listed):

  1. menu (center button) -> Mais (#9) -> Configuracoes (#3) -> Config Inicial (#7) -> select the "Idioma" option. Then select the "English" option. This will get it where you can understand it.
  2. menu (center button) -> More (#9) -> Settings (#3) -> Connection (#0) -> USB Settings (#3). Change it to Modem/Com.

2d). The Airplane Mode Option. Finally, if you didn't have another phone to activate on your account you should switch to Airplane Mode now as well, again no guarantees that it will be totally as sucessfull as activating another phone.

  • menu (center button) -> Tools (#7) -> Airplane Mode (#5). Change Airplane Mode to On.

Step Three - RESTORING BACKUPS:

3a). First, as a precaution you'll want to backup your Vivo 2742 seem. Power cycle your phone (but if it says, "Activation Required" hit the center menu key first) and fire up RSD CDMA General. When it prompts you to plug in your phone do so. When it shows your ESN (and new Vivo software WhooHoo!) go ahead and minimize it, then fire up P2KSeem.

  1. In P2KSeem, enter these values: bytes 0000, Seem 2742, Record 0001, and click the "Load from Phone" button.
  2. Once it's done, then hit the "Save to File" button and save it where you'll remember it later, just in case.
  3. Now exit P2KSeem and RSD CDMA General. Unplug your phone from your PC and power cycle it.

3b). Use RadioComm to restore your seems. Plug in your phone and fire up RadioComm. Again if prompted about the Moto Driver Installation setup, click CANCEL, do not run the setup.

  1. Again either in the little window or the main window make sure the following is set:
  2. Using the "Main" drop down menu, select MA -> CDMA1X -> 6500 Chipset base.
  3. In the Settings menu, select USB -> M-Link USB Driver.
  4. In the main RadioComm window, click on the P2K1 tab. The PC should 'beep' and the Radio Detection on the right should change to a green circle.
  5. Use the "Features" pull down menu and select NV/Seem.
  6. In the new window under Table, click the "Open" button. Browse to your 'ESN'.NVM file that you created in the backup step, select it, and click OK.
  7. Then under the Action box, click the "Write" button. When the write has completed, go ahead and close the seem window and then exit out of RadioComm.

RadioComm will leave the phone in the correct mode for P2KSeem to connect even though you've exited it, so don't unplug, nor power cycle your phone to do the following seem edits:

3c). Fire up P2KSeem and enter the following values: bytes 0000, Seem 2742, record 0001. then click the "Load from Phone" button. Then click "Load from File" button and browse to your saved 2742 seem from step 3a above. Also, please note that the descriptions for the bits shown below will probably NOT always match what you will see in P2KSeem. Also, some of these bits may or may not be set, but just 'make sure'.

MANDATORY:

  • Offset 0042, Bit 5 - checked, to allow loading of the ERI file (this was for using PST, but do it anyway, it still applies)
