This section contains guides to unlock other features of the phone that are not covered in the other sections.
So you live in a shack in the mountains but happen to have a laptop and a v3m or v3c but you just gotta check your email. Well as long as you have reception on your phone, you should be able to get truly wireless internet.
But what does it cost?! Nothing but minutes my friend... nothing but minutes. So yes that does mean that if its after 9 or its a saturday (free nights and weekends) then technically, its 100% free weeee! Now tell me how much you love your Razr :)
How the hell? This procedure is called tethering. With Verizon's broadband service you are able to tether using EVDO, which is significantly faster then 1x. However, the Razr is not allowed/capable of tethering via EVDO and instead only works with 1x. Actually using the v3c / v3m for internet is not even a normally possible function with these Razr's however it leaves you to wonder, why would you want to disable such a killer feature? It seems to me like its just another Razr selling point, but who cares -- on to the guide.
For some saucy wireless internet you'll need:
* Motorola Razr V3M / V3C for Verizon
* USB Cable
* A laptop or other PC
* EVDO disabled (GUIDE)
A few notes before we begin...
Verizon fixed DUN backdoor -- this thread contains a fix
* If EVDO is not disabled, this will not work
* Disable any shape or form of internet, including routers, wifi, and laptop built-in wifi
* A seem edit is required to make this work
* Being connected uses minutes only
* Arn't you excited?
Go razr internet, go razr internet, go!

4.Download QPST here Then do this: It takes 15-20 mins or so.
5. Pair the phone with the PDA.
6. Make the settings look just like the ones in this guide
Phone Number (to dial): #777
Username: #MyNumber#@vzw3g.com
Password: vzw
I don't have the advanced options with unencrypted passwords (PAP) and all that, but by using QPST the need for these was circumvented.
7. Now make sure the phone is set to use the connection that you just set up! (Seems simple, right?)
I was stuck here for the longest time. My phone would go from "Packet Data" to DORMANT and sit there, so I knew it was connected but no data was being transferred.
Navigate to Settings --> Connections --> Advanced --> Select Networks (that is for WM5 on my Axim, yours could be different).
Make sure "Programs that automatically connect to the Internet should connect using:" is set to the proper connection.
My said ISP but I had to change it to "My Work Network" (default name given to the bluetooth connection).
This may mess things up when trying to connect using WLAN, but just change this back and it should be fine.
NOTES
So there it is. Free (meaning free nights and weekends since minutes are charged) internet on my Dell Axim x51v from anywhere where I have Verizon service! I hope it was easy enough to follow. Hopefully it spares other people everything I had to deal with.

For this guide we will be using:
* Motorola Razr V3C / V3M for Verizon * Programming Menu & "Web Sessions" * The Official HTR FREE WAP Proxy! * For newer Razr's you may need to do this seem edit: Enable websessions= seem 2742, record 1, bytes 0000, offset 0018 bit 5 |
***
REQUIRED FOR NEW RAZRS FROM VERIZON
Razrs with the latest firmware from Verizon, or rather recently purchased Razrs, came with a new firmware that disable the WEB SESSION menu that is REQUIRED to use this guide. You MUST perform this seem edit in order to show the web session that is needed to get this hack to work.
REQUIRED SEEM EDIT - Enable websessions= seem 2742, record 1, bytes 0000, offset 0018 bit 5
1.
Open your phone. Press #0SETUP* or #073887* -- QUICKLY -- If you pause while typing #0SETUP* in, it may not work. Also note that thats a ZERO [0] not an OH [O]
2.
"Enter Security Code:" should be on the screen - type 000000 which is SIX [6] ZERO's [000000] and then Press the right soft-key which is the top-right button, closest to the screen.
3.
Web sessions should be the first item in the list, and should be highlighted. Press the right soft-key for Select
4.
Scroll down to highlight [New Entry] and then press Select
5.
Here we will setup the new web session to in essence give us FREE WAP. Please note that all the entries you will be making can be done by first highlighting the field you want to change, and then simply begin typing your entry. You do not have to press anything to begin editing, but if you choose to, you can press the center main menu button.
6.
You must have previously registered at our Forum to have your own WAP account.
To set up a wap / forum account, please register here
If you have forgotten your password, click to retrieve your password
| Name: Htr | [Here you can name the websession whatever you want] |
| Homepage: http://homepage | [Un-changeable, but our proxy automatically sends you to wap.hacktherazr.com] |
| User ID: forum-Name | [Enter your forum username exactly as you have it, this is case sensitive] |
| Password: YoUr-PaSSworD | [Enter your forum password exactly as you have it, this is case sensitive] |
| Gateway IP 1: 000.000.000.000 | [You do not need to change this] |
| Gateway 1: wap.hacktherazr.com | [Primary FREE WAP server gateway address] |
| Port 1: 9201 | [You do not need to change this, the FREE WAP server is setup on port 9201] |
| E2E Port 1: 9201 | [You do not need to change this] |
| LXL Port 1: 9201 | [You do not need to change this] |
| Gateway 2: hacktherazr.com | [OPTIONAL Secondary FREE WAP server gateway address] |
| Port 1: 9201 | [You do not need to change this, the FREE WAP server is setup on port 9201] |
| E2E Port 1: 9201 | [You do not need to change this] |
| LXL Port 1: 9201 | [You do not need to change this] |
7. Now click Done and you're almost there!
8.
Highlight your new websession and then press the center main menu button.
You should now find yourself happily connecting to the official HTR FREE WAP proxy, with your very own WAP account. If you have any problems, please continue reading.
Also note that if you want to setup multiple proxies and easily switch to a different web session, then press ##BROWSER (##2769737) to go directly to the web session menu. You cannot alter the username/password/port through this method.
TROUBLESHOOTING
For Wireless Internet Services, please dial *611.
We are unsure why this happens, but it does sometimes, and the usual easy fix for it is to go back into the Web Sessions menu, select, activate, and actually use the REAL verizon wap proxy. Verify that you are able to connect with that. Then, open up Web Sessions and switch back to the HTR FREE WAP proxy, and it should work.
"Network Connection Lost" message
The server does restart every 60 minutes so that we can prevent the server from crashing and staying offline for extend periods of time. If you are actively browsing the WAP while our server restarts, you will get a "Network connection lost" message for about 10 seconds and then everything will go back to normal and you can continue right where you left off.
"Authentication failed"
Make sure that when you were entering your forum password into the websession that the first letter was NOT capital. Sometimes the razr, by default, makes the first letter of inputed passwords Capital. One method is inputing the same Lletter twice and then going back and deleting that letter.
Also, sometimes if your password is too long or has funky characters in it, it might cause you to get locked out of the system. Simply try and change your password to something simpler and/or shorter just to test and see if that is the issue.
So I finally, after multiple different days of searching and trying, got my v3m, that's flashed to Alltel, to connect and dial up from linux (Ubuntu 7.10 specifically).
First off EVDO disabled like usual. And also you need the no pap thing that would let you use dun from a palm pilot or what not. This is because the dialing program ppp in linux does not let you specify security options and such as you can do with the winders dialer.
So follow this guide up to and including #4 http://www.hacktherazr.com/guides/verizon.dun.ppc.php.
This next part is modified from: http://www.blackberryforums.com/linux-users-corner/101715-how-verizon-8703e-usb-tethered-linux-ubuntu-7-10-a.html.
At the terminal type: tail -f /var/log/messages
Then plug your phone into your computer, you should see something like this:
Apr 8 00:19:49 Kevin-server kernel: [910921.674934] usb 1-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice Apr 8 00:19:49 Kevin-server kernel: [910921.677897] cdc_acm 1-1:1.0: ttyACM0: USB ACM device
Do a ctrl+c then type: sudo gedit /etc/ppp/peers/1xdun
Feel free to replace gedit with your favorite text editor especially if you are not using gnome.
Now paste into this new blank file:
debug debug debug nodetach /dev/*the tty part we found earlier or what ever it was* 115200 connect "/usr/sbin/chat -f /etc/chatscripts/1xdun" nomultilink defaultroute noipdefault ipcp-restart 7 ipcp-accept-local ipcp-accept-remote # added this, so that it doesn't disconnect after few mn of innactivity lcp-echo-interval 0 lcp-echo-failure 999 modem noauth nocrtscts noipdefault novj # refused anyway, no point in trying every time usepeerdns user *yournumber*@vzw3g.com password vzw
Next type: sudo gedit /etc/chatscripts/1xdun
Again replace gedit if you want/need.
And paste into the new file:
ABORT BUSY ABORT 'NO CARRIER' ABORT VOICE ABORT 'NO DIALTONE' ABORT 'NO DIAL TONE' ABORT 'NO ANSWER' ABORT DELAYED ABORT ERROR SAY "Initializing\n" '' ATZ OK-AT-OK ATDT#777 CONNECT \d\c
Now you should be able to type: sudo pppd call 1xdun
If you open a second terminal and type: ifconfig ppp and then see something like:
ppp0 Link encap:Point-to-Point Protocol

| If you live in an area where your phone constantly switches back and forth between EVDO and 1X then its possible that it is draining the battery of your V3C faster then normal. Disabling EVDO on your Razr in this scenaro has been reported to indeed improve battery life. However, disabling EVDO on your phone renders you temporarily unable to view vCast. Temporarily because you can (with learning the routine) easily disable and enable EVDO at any time. The following is a guide on how to do, just that.
For this guide we will be using: * Motorola Razr V3C / V3M for Verizon * Programming Menu & test mode |
