♠♦ How to install Java games on Koodo's Krazr K1m ? ♦♠
Hi,
I've searched the forums and couldn't find an answer that worked. Either the provider was different, or something. It just didn't work.
Anyhow, this is VERY frustrating because I work for EA Mobile but am somehow unable to figure out how to get games onto my personal device.
At work I know the steps for J2ME and BREW, but we use different devices.
Here's what I've got:
Koodo's Motorola Krazr K1m
SW= FRNKT6_01.0C.00R
CDMA 1X-EVDO
1gig memory micro SD card
data cable
The device's Main Menu contains the following
1) Contacts
2) Call History
3) Messaging
4) Video Camera
5) Media Gallery (containing Camera, pics, sounds, videos, video camera and MP3 player)
6) Utilities (containing calculator, scheduler, voice memos, alarm clock and airplane mode)
7) Extras (containing shortcut links to Koodo's store for Ringtones and Pics, and their web browser)
Settings
9) Phone Info
There is no JAVA launcher, Games / Tools section or anything like that in the Main Menu.
I can hack it using BitPim to get custom ringtones, take off that annoying shutter sound and do just about everything except install games / applications.
Can you give me a comprehensive step-by-step guide of what I have to do to accomplish this?
One weird thing I noticed was that while the device has a "brew" section, there is also a .SETTINGS file named "J2ME" in BREW ---> mod ---> jbed ---> installed folder. Should that be? Is it BREW or J2ME? hmmm
Also, in BREW ---> mod ---> brewappmgr there is a .BAR file named "alltelappmgr", WTF?
Recently I found that I can access the Games / Tools menu when hitting the Left Soft key (Options) while in a call and selecting "Applications" but the Games / Tools folders in there are empty and I cannot access that menu any other way.
Thanks again,
Lanhoj

The first thing you need to find out is does you carrier use Java or Brew. It can't be both it's one or the other. Until you know that I wouldn't even waste time trying to figure out the game thing yet. By the sounds of it tho they using Java seeing as you are saying the phone has the j2me.settings file. It also sounds like they are routing all there stuff threw there specific setup. What I mean is the way you found the Games/Tools when in a call and selecting options. I own a Telus v9m & also a VZW v3c that is flashed to Telus also. However to get the Java app loader in the main menu I had to install the icons and place a custom MMA file in the filesystem. Along with doing a seem edit to change the menu layout for 9 icons to 12 icons. Originally they both had everything going threw Telus Spark crap and that just didn't work.
Curious what file types do you have the games in at the moment.

The issue is only one US CDMA carrier uses Java in the CDMA world here in the states and that is Sprint. However there firmware can not be used on any other network because of the way they have there data authentication setup. If you were to use there firmware on a phone and use it on any other network the only thing that would work would be calls & txt msgs. I personally own 2 Moto phones that run a Java based firmware and have them both active on VZW's network. The thing is none of the carriers that run Java on there Razr every sold the v3m, only the v3c & v9m and those are the 2 models I own. Well I also own a v3m and many others but that is irrelevant. You can flash a v3m wit hthe leaked v3c firmware but you would in fact be turning your v3m into a v3c and would no long have access to the TF card.

Online, maybe not, but at work we have some. I've tried every way I know, but no success. Doesn't make sense tho, I mean I can install them on work phones, but not my personal one, UGH!
Well in Canada, Telus and Bell install games differently than other CDMA carriers it seems.
You mean is it J2ME or BREW? I don't know for certain. In the Games / Tools menu I can access while in a call, there are J2ME settings I can change (Notifications, Sounds, Backlight), but Koodo is a CDMA carrier so they "should" use BREW.
How did you install new icons in the menu? If I can get an icon linked to a shortcut to that Games / Tools menu maybe that would help.

I thought of something else that I'm going to try at work today. I'll letcha know if I have any success.

Posted: Mon, 12/08/2008 - 10:47 by pyde_pypperWith the info you just posted they are using Java and not Brew is going to be my guess. The only time you will see "Notifications, Sounds, Backlight" in j2me settings like you are seeing is if the phone uses Java.
As for Koodo being CDMA means nothing really. In Canada I don't believe any carrier uses Brew they all seem to use Java like Skatel, Telus,, Bell...etc do. Only in the states it seems all CDMA carriers use Brew. As for installing via Bell or Telus they both work the same. I've run both there firmwares on my v3c and to get Java rolling it's the same process just need different certificates so they function correctly. However IMO Telus firmware is much better IMO.
As for adding or changing the icon in the main menu no easy task. You first have to edit/make new mma_ucp & mma_dcp files to reference everything correctly. After which time you have to add the actual icon file to the correct folder in the filesystem depending on the firmware on the phone. And being each carrier does things different it's hard to say seeing as everything I have setup is specific to certain flashes for my use with VZW's network. I personally have 4 different icon sets made I use one is for a 9 or 12 icon menu when using a Java flash, and I have the same 9 or 12 icon files for Brew based phones also.
Do me a quick favor if you can. Go into the fielsystem via BitPim and backup all the files in the /brew/mod/jbed folder. The drop me a PM with a link to anywhere you can upload for me to look over quick when I have a chance. Rapidshare works well and it's free just put all the files in a *.zip and upload them. When it finishes it will give you a link to them forward that to me and I'll download the file and look it over as time permits me to.
One thing I'd like to ask you is if you have any type of info/guide for adding Java stuff to phone would it be possible to forward it to me via PM. I don't want t in the forums at this time but I'd be interested in reviewing it. And for sure any type of info you may have on Brew stuff seeing as that is the real PITA being it all has to be logged with your ESN to be workable. Which is why in the states everyone has to buy apps/games directly threw the carrier.

Ah. i see. Hmm. i have no interest in the Sprint firmware, as i strongly dislike it anyway. Honestly, i don't know if i would want to give up my TF card, but ... I don't really use that for anything other than transferring ringtones to my razr and having odd songs on there to show off, which could be remedied by using MPT, and i kind of dislike MPT. So.. i might as well shut the hell up now.
But anywho, to the OP, i wish you luck.
