Change programming for different carrier
Hello All
I need some serious help here! I went swimming with my cellphone, and apparently they aren't water proof. I have a some what local company Nex-Tech wireless for a carrier. I have an old Verizon phone that I want to reprogram for the nex-tech network. Is there anyone who can help me? I'm also interested in learning how to repair phones, any ideas for the best info?
At your mercy,
Michiganman

It seems as though the carrier you want to use is a CDMA and BREW carrier, so converting a V3m is doable (especially since they offer it), but getting the settings for all your data to work will be tricky.
So start by answering back those two questions and we can go from there.

If it starts with 24_1., then flashing to a different software/firmware is out of the question. You would probably be able to make calls and texts on the new carrier, but nothing more.

Posted: Thu, 06/25/2009 - 10:06 by michiganmanI don't see anything that starts with a NEWC or a 24_1. At the very bottom of the motorola sticker is another sticker which reads SW: JFJK002.22.17. One thing I should mention is that I am looking at a phone on the Nex-Tech network not my old verizon phone. I will have to check that one when I get home from work. How do you know so much and where can I learn this info? Thanks for all your help!

Posted: Thu, 06/25/2009 - 13:41 by teddyearpTaht is the reason you didn't see what I was looking for. We need the s/w version from the Verizon V3m you plan on going forward with. BUT, just curious, what kind of phone did you read the posted SW version from to post here?
How did I get to know so much and how can you? By reading reading reading reading reading reading reading, and, oh and by the way, reading some more; posts here, HowardForums, and other sites. Read so much that your head is swimming, then when (not if) you have questions, ask intelligent question here or there and read and learn some more. Plus, I've flashed a few phones and dealt with this stuff for a couple of years, I'm a newcomer, hence my monioker of professional n00b.
Anyways, report back the s/w version on your V3m, tell me what kind of phone you have that is active on Nex-Tech, and we'll go from there. We'll probably be able to get calls and texts to work easily, but having an active Nex-Tech phone (preferrably a V3m/c) will help us get the rest.
good luck

FYI, I don't need to do anything but call and a little texting. The weird thing is that on my Nex-tech razr does not have anything like the S/W number. Is this a big deal? I guess this is where having another working N-T phone is required. OK, now what?

Posted: Fri, 06/26/2009 - 00:46 by Ladthats a VERY good version to have. completely flashable, i know because that was the first version i flashed from. ill wait till teddy gets back... but if its a local company, they generally use the generic motorola software with the occasional minor visual alterations depending on what type of pay services they offer, such as games etc.
have a working N-T phone is essential unless some1 has done this before (which i cant think of ne1), the reason being that well need to pull various files/seems from it to get ur stuff working. also we could check their software version.
Have a V3m VZW->Vivo flash
Also a K1m VZW->Telus flash
Also a V9m VZW->USCC SPARKO_etc (current)
And a totally plagerized signature!

Posted: Fri, 06/26/2009 - 06:06 by pyde_pypperyour Nex-tech phone has t ohave S/W displayed. Odds are they just don't put it on the sticker in the battery compartment. Go into menu>setting on the device and you should be able to find it.
Be that as it may odds are you would have the best luck flashing the VZW device with the Generic Moto firmware. I highly doubt that local carrier is using any special software on there devices.

Posted: Fri, 06/26/2009 - 08:02 by teddyearpGood, your VZW razr, as Lad pointed out, is very flashable. And as pyde said, on your N-T razr, go through the menu system (I take it it looks different than the menus on your VZW phone) and go to Settings or Phone Status, and what you're looking for is Other Information. There you will be able to view the software version on your N-T razr. Is your N-T razr also a V3m?
Now, if all you do is calls and texts, then you really probably don't need to flash it, but that would take all the fun out of it, wouldn't it? So, do you have a usb cord to connect your phone to your computer? Need that first. I guess, I'll wait for these answers before we continue.
