however atleast for alltel, or atleast because i havnt fixed it yet, it says no voicemail number stored
lol fixing it was as hard as clicking the store buton to specify the voicemail number... schawing!
oh ok so.. it doesn work tho.. my LA number seems like its someones personal voicemail, cause it has the default greeting.. the old area code number in LA says what mailbox are you trying to reach, enter my number and it says it cant find it... i dunno i just tried another 1 or 2 and they all seem to have different messages and scenarios lol..
in essence.. if this is truly a airtime free call, then doesnt it not matter which one we call? sooo if one of those numbers work cant we just all set it to that number and it should still be 100% free?

Posted: Thu, 01/11/2007 - 07:11 by pyde_pypperfrom my understanding most of the back door numbers like this have been closed. The carriers caught on to the fact people figured out how to beat the system and not burn mins. Hell back in the day if you had mobile to mobile calling you got to check your voicemail airtime free.

Posted: Mon, 01/15/2007 - 15:20 by polycat33I just tried my local one and it was a real persons phone number, when she didn't pick up it went to voice mail and was some lady named cindy. Good thing she didn't answer her phone!!
Why did they have backdoor numbers like that in the first place?

Posted: Sun, 01/21/2007 - 00:05 by sheepboy32785looks like those were setup for the same reason early computer networks (like in the movie Wargames) had security-bypassing backdoors, so that the guy who set it up could get in without messing w/passwords or anything. Turned out to be a bad idea and nobody does it anymore, hackers began to exploit these backdoors.
just my $2 (inflation, ya now)

Posted: Sun, 01/21/2007 - 23:42 by polycat33If you have an IN calling plan then yeah, calling your number is free. But why would you want to? Unless there's something I don't know about accessing your voicemail by calling your number from that phone...?
