Connecting PPC to Razr - Bluetooth DUN
So I have spent all day trying to figure this out and finally got it (obviously with the help of several forums and hours of not knowing what to do). Had I found something like this before, I could have saved HOURS! But hopefully this will help the next person:
DUN between PPC and Verizon Razr
I have a Dell Axim x51v and Verizon Razr v3m which I just finally go to work. I don't remember the exact steps I took, but this should work (if not, modify and post your results):
1-You do not need to disable EVDO but it is highly recommended. If you surf with EVDO enabled, the chances of getting caught are sky high (read a few posts below this one)! Here's how to disable EVDO.
2-Also, you should do the seem edit to enable DUN (as described here). It is 2742; 0000 Bytes; Offset 6a; check bit 3.
3-Now a seem edit to allow access to nvm_factory (important for next step):
Seem 2742, bytes 90, record 1... Offset 5A; check bit 7. It allows copying the NVM files (normally you can copy the file but it will be 0 bytes in size). (as Mark posted here in post 11)
4-Then do this: http://www.mark.cdmaforums.com/NoPapDun.htm It takes 15-20 mins or so (search torrent sites for software) but it's the only way I found works. Make sure QPST is the proper version AND build (v2.7 build 215).
5-Pair the phone with the PDA.
6-Make the settings look just like the ones in this guide
Phone Number (to dial): #777
Username: My10DigitPhone#@vzw3g.com
Password: vzw
I don't have the advanced options with unencrypted passwords (PAP) and all that, but by using QPST the need for these was circumvented.
7-Now make sure the phone is set to use the connection that you just set up! (Seems simple, right?) I was stuck here for the longest time. My phone would go from "Packet Data" to DORMANT and sit there, so I knew it was connected but no data was being transfered.
Navigate to Settings --> Connections --> Advanced --> Select Networks (that is for WM5 on my Axim, yours could be different). Make sure "Programs that automatically connect to the Internet should connect using:" is set to the proper connection. Mine said ISP but I had to change it to "My Work Network" (default name given to the bluetooth connection).
This may mess things up when trying to connect using WLAN (although mine seems ok), but just change this back and it should be fine.
So there it is. Free (meaning free nights and weekends since minutes are charged) internet on my Dell Axim x51v from anywhere where I have Verizon service!
I hope it was easy enough to follow. Hopefully it spares other people everything I had to deal with.
Remember: Don't do anything that would raise a flag to Verizon (ie: download huge files, stay connected for long periods of time, or connect with EVDO enabled). Oh yeah, and I'll include a disclaimer I read over in the Aximsite forums....if you end up getting charged $50 a minute for some unknown reason, don't blame me :)

I'm a chick, get it straight!

Thanks, I think I'll add that to my post above.
Why is it almost guarenteed? Just because EVDO is monitored a lot closer than 1x?

It really is a great feature; one that should be easier to access.
