Outside LCD hack that is changeable via phone interface

basically i had a realization (having learned in the past that you can change the location of the outside LCD image, aka verizon.gif, as in the specified path) that it might be possible to change the path of the lcd and do it in such a way that you could specify your outside lcd right from the phone...

well, i figured it out, and made it so that not only can you change what outside LCD you want displayed, right from the phone, but also i made it so that its all done through the microSD card... that means you can literally have hundreds if you wanted, and then basically just go into my pix and rename whichever one you want the specified LCD image to be, in my example, external.gif, reboot your phone, and wallah.

originally my idea was to use this to make it so that you could specify an outside LCD image as a picture that you have just taken with the phone.. but i think the problem with that was that the phone does not want to display .jpg's on the outside lcd, and thats the format that images taken with the camera are saved as.

but i think this is a good enough compromise :) just upload a bunch and change it whenever you want, without access to a computer...

Change your outside LCD right from your phone!
A seem edit is required, as well as a microSD card
(sorry it wont work without a microsd because the true location of those files are too long for the specified path of the outside LCD)

I'd recommend that you just load these seems from your phone, then load my pre-edited seem from file, then save to phone. You can make the edits by yourself, but it does require paying attention to the ./.a.c.t.u.l./.p.a.t.h./. and those .'s arnt just periods, they're completely blank offsets, meaning that if you click on one of the seperating .'s -- all of the bits will be turned off

The specified path of the outside LCD is located in Seem: 2771 and 2772

these pre-edited seems specify the path as /b/external.gif
(and it is case sensitive on the external.gif -- including extension)
which is any file name exactly "external.gif" located on your microSD card. if you remove your microSD card while you have one specified, it simply displays the original motorola LCD image since it cant find yours... so it doesnt break anything

Download these, open pst / msu + p2k seem editer, load seem 2771 (bytes 0000, record 1) and then load seem 2771 from file (specify the one you downloaded from here) then save to phone and repeat process for seem 2772

before you restart your phone, might as well upload a couple external LCD's to mess with, so go ahead and load a couple of these pre-set examples via bitpim or a card reader...

after uploading the new images to the card and saving the seems, make sure one of them is specified as external.gif, reboot your phone, and whalah.

to change them, its as simple as going to my pix, renaming the currently set one to like external10 (or any other name not currently in use) then rename your new choice lcd to: external -- reboot your phone, and enjoy an easily changeable outside lcd :twisted:
