KRZR k1m
Is this the correct place for help with my KRZR k1m? I'll outline the problem. If I'm in the wrong place, please feel free to direct me to where I need to be.
Verizon has blocked transfers to/from PC. I spent $35 on the Motorola Phone Tools software, only to find out that I cannot use the Transfer or Customize features. Mororola will not refund my money. They tell me that I need to get a key/code from Verizon to unlock my phone, and then the software will work. Verizon refuses to give me the unlock code/key. All I want to do is transfer pictures and ringtones between my PC and phone!
Verizon claims the feature is blocked in the software on my phone (and others) because ppl were using copyrighted items without permission.
Can anyone help?
Thanks!!!

First thing I'd like to say
Posted: Tue, 08/19/2008 - 14:42 by pyde_pypperFirst thing I'd like to say is welcome to HTR. Secondly where you posted is just fine.
Now on to the issue. Yes it is true VZW locks you out and no they WILL NOT give you the info. However the old saying "where there is a will there is a way". Well that said you came to the right place. WE do need at least one piece of information from your tho before we can move forward on helping you out. We need to know what firmware version is currently running on your phone. You can check this by taking the battery out and looking at the barcode sticker there should be something that looks like this "S/W" with a long number after it ( ex 01.09.02 ) Just jot that down and let us know. If you can't find it there head over to setting&tools via the phone menus and you can find the info from the phone info area if memroy serves me correctly. Once we know that we can better assist in pointing you in the right direction.
The reason for this is depending on which firmware it is it tells us how you can do what you want. There are specific firmwares that WILL NOT work with MPT at all. However that does not mean what you want to do can't be done. It just means that MPT was a waste of your good hard earned $$$. Then again if it is an older firmware there are ways to get it to work with MPT also.
Currently using the New Moto Krave ZN4

This Code...
Posted: Tue, 08/19/2008 - 23:07 by SailorcancerThis code that vzw has that will unlock stuff in MPT. How does it work? Where would you enter it etc?
Your guess would be as good
Posted: Wed, 08/20/2008 - 05:42 by pyde_pypperYour guess would be as good as mine seeing as they don't give out any details on it. I've just heard the statement made before. I've never actually asked about it to be honest.

perhaps there are more
Posted: Wed, 08/20/2008 - 07:15 by spikejonesperhaps there are more secret codes that we are unaware of at this point which will in essence perform a seem edit via the phone interface. who knows really
ehh. whats up doc?
Firmware Version...
Posted: Wed, 08/20/2008 - 20:58 by Blue Oval BabyFirst... thanks for the welcome, and you guys are awesome!
There's nothing even remotely close to that under the battery. What I find under phone info is "software version" and it's 24.1_01.19.09. Is that what you're looking for?
Unlock Code
Posted: Wed, 08/20/2008 - 21:05 by Blue Oval BabyThis is what I just found out today... For phones with a SIM card, you can remove the card, insert a new one, and enter this code to unlock the phone. However, since the k1m doesn't have a SIM card... This is mostly done when going overseas, so you can use whatever carrier you choose while there, and avoid roaming fees. Verizon claims that there is no "unlock code" for this, and I'd need to purchase a global phone for overseas travel (yeah, I fibbed to try and get the code). My gut feeling? There *is* an unlock code of some sort, but they just want to sell you more crap, so they tell you there isn't.
FYI: that "unlock" process
Posted: Thu, 08/21/2008 - 03:51 by spikejonesFYI: that "unlock" process you are talking about is GSM related and as such does not apply to any of the CDMA carriers on this site. Your phone uses the new firmware and as such I do not believe that MPT will work for your phone. I think they need to put disclaimers on the software saying that it just wont work for Verizon.
Anyhooo... for the older versions of VZW firmware, there were seem edits that were used to make it work and to enable use of MPT. Like I said though, I dont think MPT is useable on that firmware. You will have to use p2k commander to put ringtones on that phone (mp3 ringtones - rewrite the extension to .qcp) put them into the folder labelled /motorola/shared/ringtone. - return to the root of the the filesystem and delete the database file named MyToneDB.db and reboot the phone.
For transferring pictures, they go into the /motorola/shared/pictures folder - no need to delete any files for that process. Curious though if you have a flash card - things can also be done with that
two Guide/FAQ's i recommend reading:
Restoring some useful ringtone features on the newer f/w Krazr and Razr phones from VZW!! - this guide will show you how to rewrite a .ini file on the phone in order to restore the ability to set recorded audio as a ringtone as well as gain ability to send ringtones via SMS/MMS system
How do I transfer pictures from V3m phone to PC? - Akthough it says Razr in the name, the Razr and Krazr phones are basically the same thing being that they have the same firmware on them.
Also, you should not have to do the USB enabling seem edits since they should already be enabled on that firmware. If you run into any problems (try first), the seem edit list in the guides section has that info in it (Guides -> Verizon -> programming -> seem edit list). Info on how to set up the various programs you will need can be found at Guides -> Verizon -> content management. If you have not even started installing drivers, check out the start here guide at Guides -> start here.
Good luck and keep us posted

Thanks!!!
Posted: Fri, 08/22/2008 - 08:05 by Blue Oval BabyThe info is great! I'm off Mon. and Tues. so I'm going to start messing with it then, when I have the time to devote to it. Thank you again!
To spikejones & pyde_pypper
Posted: Sun, 08/24/2008 - 20:42 by Blue Oval BabyI can't thank you both enough! One of you asked if I had an SD card. I didn't at that time, but I have one now. I called Verizon and complained about everything being disabled, and how I spent $35 on useless software, blah, blah, blah. I was basically a real bit**. I demanded a manager, who asked if there was anything I needed that was of comparable value to the software. I had been wanting an SD card so I could load more music, so I asked for that. I went back and read the article about using your card to transfer files. My printer has card capability, so... I have now transferred my pics, and loaded some others.
I only have one other question, and that's regarding loading music. If I load my songs on the card under the music folder, will the player recognize/find them? Honestly, I've never used the player because the phone could only hold 5 songs w/o a card.
I am very grateful for all of your help!!!
Oh, and I forgot to mention... the tech, Steve, basically told me the KRZR was crap, and they have a lot of bugs. Yeah. The keypad backlight working only when it feels like it (after 3 replacement phones did the same thing) being one I've experienced.
as long as your songs are in
