V3c receives Bluetooth link calls OK but can't do outgoing

OK, I really need some help - I have a Verizon V3c, with the 03 firmware, PRL v. 51143, BREW v. 3.1.2. I want to use it in my new car (2009 Hummer H3) which has built-in Bluetooth. The Razr pairs with the car just fine. If someone calls my Razr, it answers OK and I can converse using the car's speaker and microphone. So far so good.

But if I try to place an outgoing call in the car using my linked Razr, it says "Calling phone", the number appears correctly on both the car's display and the Razr's display, there's a two second delay, the Razr screen goes blank, then reappears with zero signal strength bars and the "no network" icon, the car's display says "unable to complete call", and the Razr returns to normal idle mode.

Before blaming the car, note that I get the exact same behavior with my home phone system, an ATT TL92270 which offers the same "link to cell" capability. Incoming calls, fine, outgoing calls, no. So that makes me think the problem is in the Razr somewhere. I'm up to date on *228's, and the only modding I've done is to replace the startup/shutdown sounds and the outside LCD picture. I've checked the Forum (and indeed the rest of the web) and couldn't find a similar problem.

I'd really like to be able to place calls from the car or at home using Bluetooth through the Razr. Anyone have a clue on this problem? I'm completely frustrated here. Thanks much - any help would be most appreciated.

my guess is you need to update the flash on the phone. Originally there were issues with BT devices on the first rounds of firmware they had on the v3c. FYI you are about 3 or 4 flashes behind the most recent version. The most phone recent flash for your phone is .01.18.05. with that said you can either update the flash yourself if you wanted or take it into a VZW corp store and have then update it.

Thanks for the speedy reply.

Thanks for the speedy reply. I suppose a new flash can't hurt, especially since the v4 seems to help out in other areas too. I'll just take it down to the the store and let them do it since my PST is acting cranky and refuses to start up for some reason. (OK, the reason is that I killed the WIBU key process some time ago and now I don't know how to get that whole deal running again).

I'll report back how it turns out.

My suggestion is to dump PST

My suggestion is to dump PST totally. As to what to use to flash find a copy of RSD Lite 4.x or higher and you'll be good to go. In place of using PST look for the most recent version of RSD General ( ie version 5.2.9). Both of those program are much easier to setup & use plus they are much more user friendly. you'll see that right off the bat once you have them installed and fir them up.

New firmware didn't help

Posted:

Well, I just had the store do the update and I'm now running GATW_01.18.07. Unfortunately, I still can't place outgoing calls using the cell-link feature.

Oddly enough, although the upgrade killed my wallpaper, my customized startup sounds and outside LCD image are still there. No one even said a word about those Smiling But I'm still stuck. Any other ideas?

And thanks for the suggestion on PST. I was able to get it going again (all it took was restarting the WIBU process) but I'll have to check out RSD. PST was never the most user-friendly thing in the world.

Well if you have updated the firmware my guess is it's an issue with the vehicle. I know when my buddy got his new BMW 335 Xi his Razr would not link correctly either just like you are seeing. Ended up needing to have a software update for the car itself for the BT to work correctly. That said you may want to get ahold of Hummer and see what they have to say about it. Oh and I know Chrysler has the same issue in that the phone would pair but could not dial out for whatever reason. Same thing went there they needed to get an update from Chrysler for it to work right. the problem is getting someone at the dealer that actually knows what they are talking about.

At this point I'd try contacting Hummer during the week and explain the issue. And be specific on the phone type, and the carrier also. Every last things does in fatc matter on this type of stuff.

Ah, but it does the same thing with my home Bluetooth phone system. The AT&T wireless has the same cell-link feature as the car, and the Razr works the same way with that. I can receive calls OK via the Bluetooth link, but can't make outgoing calls. That seems to point the finger more at the Razr, since it fails to dial out with two different systems. The local VZW office suggested I contact the main office in my city and talk to the techs there. We'll see tomorrow if they have a clue. This is really odd, especially since both Hummer and AT&T claim the V3 is supported on their respective systems.

Also keep in mind AT&T is a GSM cell carrier and their Razr's are not the same as our Razr's. As you mentioned AT&T claimed it works with the v3. With that said the v3 is a totally different phone them the v3c or v3m. So as I said the phone model info will be very important when you call into Hummer or AT&T.

Those are good points. I suppose it really is possible that both Hummer and ATT have the same problem dealing with the V3c. Anyway, I just gt off the phone to ATT support where I spent 45 minutes doing obvious and useless things (unplug the base, re-pair the cell phone, turn it off and on again, etc.) until the guy finally gave up and just told me that the V3c is not compatible with the ATT unit. Next I have an in-person appointment this afternoon at the local VZW office to see if they have a clue.

Sorry to hear you went threw all that to be told it won't work but it doesn't surprise me tho. With that said my guess is VZW will be of no help either. The idiots at the store have no clue as to any functions with the phones from my experience. Every time I go in (on the rare occasion I head to a store) I end up teaching them something they don't know. I would however be very curious as to what they have to say, and even Hummer for that matter. So if and when you have time plz keep us posted as to what you find out. Peace
