v3m doesn't ring
I have a v3m, originally verizon, flashed to alltel when I switched companies. Since I flashed the phone it doesn't ring, and it's making me nuts. I tried a hard reset. Still no ring. I read somewhere on the boards about flashing back to verizon. Two questions: how do I go about doing that and what happens to my service with alltel? (go ahead, treat me like I'm ignorant because I feel that way now and I'm about ready to go back to the alltel v3a I got when I switched to alltel even though I can't stand the phone)
Thanks

Let's try tyo do this without flashing first, if possible. So, with that said, by 'hard reset', do you mean a Master Reset and Master Clear? Or it could be as simple as double checking your sound settings and/or if you accidently have the ringer on mute. I'm not trying to say you're ignorant or stupid, I most certainly am not. I just ask because I've made some silly mistakes and overlooked some of the obvious in the past, recent and otherwise. I just don't know if your phone not ringing if related to the flashing of your phone.
If it comes down to a Master Reset/Clear and/or flashing post back here first so we can walk you through the minimal backups you'll want to do first. BTW, if you need to flash it, I think just reflashing (after backing up a thing or two) to an Alltell monster would be the thing to do.
good luck

Is Master Reset the next step?
Posted: Fri, 06/19/2009 - 04:07 by FairyGodMomThanks for the reply. I have checked every setting I can find on the phone to make sure that nothing is muted and the ringer is set on high. I get a beep when I miss a call. I get a beep if I have a message. The doggone thing just doesn't ring when I have an incoming call. It shows on the screen, but no sound.
By a hard reset, I read here somewhere to press the power button and take out the battery, wait a minute or so, and then press the power button and put the battery back in. I did that. Still nothing.
I haven't touched the master reset button because I don't know what I lose if I do that (might need to back up contacts first; do I lose the games I have on here, etc.)
I don't know if the not ringing is related to the fact that I flashed to alltel. All I know is that this started then.
Is hitting the Master Reset on this thing the next step then?
Thanks

Curious, when you flashed to Alltel and before activating, did you do a MR/MC then? I have always read that you should do them both right after you flash and before activating.

Posted: Fri, 06/19/2009 - 08:57 by pyde_pypperFYI Master Reset will just set the phone back to stock setting. Master Clear is the one you don't want to do as that will wipe everything out. So if you choose to do a Master Clear make sure you have your stuff backed up, but Master Reset if fine.
What format are the tones in? Or are they just the stock ringers. As for flashing it to Alltel that should nothing to do with it. I've flashed hundreds of devices and never seen this issue. Could have just been a bugged flash tho. Any time you cross flash bugs can and will pop right off the bat or even over time. The reality is if you get into hacking/flashing be ready to have things crop up here or there and be willing to spend the time to fix it.

still working on it
Posted: Sat, 06/20/2009 - 19:34 by FairyGodMomThe rings are the stock ones. I backed up my contacts and photos. I called Alltel about my games. They will credit me. I asked about a hard reset. Tech guy referred me to the local Alltel store. Guy there did a hard reset. We called the phone from there. It rang. I got it home. It didn't ring. I threw my bluetooth on for good measure. It didn't beep at me when the phone was ringing (well, not exactly ringing because I could only hear it on my home phone and not my cell). It only beeped at me when the phone was set to vibrate or silent. Weird.
Before that, I tried different ring tones on the phone itself. No dice.
Should I try a master clear/master reset next?
Or should I try flashing the doggone thing again?
Something else?
Thanks

Posted: Sat, 06/20/2009 - 21:07 by listenman20does it register that you've even received a call? if it rang in the store and you have the ringer ids set up to ring the same tone no matter who calls then i don't understand why you wouldn't still hear it at home. check and see if battery save is on. that's under the settings initial set up. turn it off.

yes, it registers that I received a call
Posted: Sun, 06/21/2009 - 05:28 by FairyGodMomThe phone registers that I received a call. It just doesn't ring. I just turned off battery save and then called my phone. The screen lights up and tells me that I have a call, but the phone doesn't ring. Thanks for the idea though.
Which brings me back to my last question(s). Would master clear/master reset be the next step to try?
Flash the phone again?
Something else?
Thanks for all your help

Posted: Sun, 06/21/2009 - 07:44 by teddyearpYeah, I find it odd that it rang in the store but not when you got it home. But, to move forward, since you have backed up your phonebook and such, I would try a master reset and master clear first.
If that doesn't fix it then go ahead and flash it again with the Alltel monster flash file for your phone. If you need it, just reply back, I'll check back this evening and post it if need be. Then, right after your flash it, perform a master reset and master clear righy away, then go ahead and re-activate it on your account.
Then of course, I would see if the phone rings before starting to put your stuff back on it.
good luck

success...for the moment
Posted: Sun, 06/21/2009 - 08:33 by FairyGodMomDid a master clear then a master reset. Called the phone...and mission control, we had lift off. Paired the phone with the bluetooth and called the phone...it rang again.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this did the trick. I'll have to call again later and see what happens.
