Verizon Motorola RAZR V3m V cast phone (need help)
First off, im still somewhat of a noob to this website. Anyway, my brother gave me his Verizon Motorola RAZR V3m V cast phone which is great, but I have Cricket and apparently need to unlock it before I can get it activated. I started with the guides section of the website. It stated the requirements needed to unlock the phone so I downloaded windows sp2 as I have Windows xp and I have followed instructions in exact order (even watched the videos to make sure i was doing it right) Now when I get to step 4, where there should be pop ups to recognize your phone, nothing happens and my phone screen says the usb cable is an "unauthorized charger". Can anyone help me?

So I have tried unplugging my phone and I tried the link you provided but im still getting nothing. I think my phone is older or something so it may need an older installer, i have no idea? Any other ideas? I should just plug the phone in after the clean and reinstall and it should recognize my phone right?

Posted: Mon, 08/04/2008 - 07:50 by pyde_pypperFYI it should make no difference what firmware is on it for the drivers to work right. They are all backwards compatible in 99.9% of all cases. First thing I'll ask is the USB cord plugged directly into a USB port on the motherboard of your comp, or do you have it running threw a USB hub. If it is the later no dice it needs to be plugged into a port directly on your comp. Second what type of USB cord are you using. Like is it from another digital device or was it bought for the Razr? I have seen it where generic or other USB cables do not work correctly with the phone. If you happen to have another cord try that. Also are you continuing to only try the same USB port, if so try hooking it up to a different one. Reason I say this is for whatever reason on one of my desktop I have one USB port that no matter what I do it will not find a phone, any phone for that matter. That said I have about 5 different ones and they all work fine with everyone port on all my comp EXCEPT this one port for some unknown reason.
If you are concerned about the firmware version pull the battery and look at the sticker under it. You should see a number that looks like this S/W right under the barcode where it tells you the model of the phone.

Posted: Mon, 08/04/2008 - 08:15 by MezzyI plugged the usb directly into the back of the comp. I have tried both ports on the back of my comp as there are only 2 usb slots. Like I said im a noob and I dont know what a usb hub is. The USB cable is for a printer I think (it says canon) its my room mates. Also I looked under the battery and it said: S/W:NEWC_01.09.02 Model:V3m
Do you think I should buy a new usb cable and try that?

Posted: Mon, 08/04/2008 - 09:05 by pyde_pypperWell that being the case then there is something wrong with your install of XP with SP2. This stuff will not work right unless SP@ is installed and functioning correctly. Let's put it this way I have worked with other and even on one of my own comp where I had to do a complete and fresh install of XP to get back to square one. And seeing as it works on the other cop that tells me something is jacked in your Windows Sp2 install. After installing SP2 did you go back to Windows update and still update all the new patches they've posted since SP2 was released a few years ago? Another thing is DO NOT let it update to SP3 tho, just get SP2 all the way up to date. You may even have to do it a few times as after certain patches they had to fix other things again so keep trying the Win update until you get to the point of it having no updates. If you still have troubles after doing that and a clean & reinstall of the drivers let me us know and we can try to point ou in the right direction. I've got a few other thoughts but I don't want to blow you out of the water right off the bat in case it's a simple fix of getting Windows currently up to date.

I did see the list of all the current updates and downloaded until it was only recommending to download sp3(which I did not install). Needless to say I installed the driver off this website again and I am still having no luck with this issue.

I installed a fresh version of Win XP Pro with SP3 integrated and it worked just fine for me. Not sure where everyone got the idea that SP3 messes it up.

check in your hardware manager and make sure that your USB controller does not have any errors on it. If it does, you may need to reinstall the drivers for it from your computer manufacturers web site.
