Change startup / shutdown animations

This section relates to the Razr Phones provided by Verizon Wireless only.

Tired of watching that Verizon or Motorola animation when you turn on or turn off your phone? No?! Ok well then do you just feel like changing those animations? Its easy and doesnt affect anything in a negative way at all. Meh, theres not much to describe about this one :)

Used in this guide:
* Motorola Razr V3M / V3C for Verizon
* P2K Commander [DOWNLOAD]
* PST 7.2.3 - Phone Programmer

Change startup / shutdown animations
    1. Plug in your phone to your computer via the USB cable and then start Phone Programmer which comes with PST 7.2.3 (available from most P2P file sharing programs). This guide also assumes that you have previously setup PST and gone through the initial setup process.

    3. There should be a left and a right window pane (both physical sides of the program look the same). There is a drop down menu on both sides that display C:\ and then have a button that says [Re-Read]. Choose the side you wish to explore your Razr on by clicking the drop down menu and clicking on "P2K Mobile Phone"

    If it starts to do something and reads in the bottom left corner:

      Usb p2k device found, phone connected !
      GENERIC FAILURE.     thats normal
      Volume name fail!     thats normal as well

    Then the progress bar should start growing and the bottom left should start to display all the files (names) as the filesystem is downloaded. Success, go onto the next step. If you had problems, continue reading.

    If it snaps back to C:\ and the bottom left window reads

      No p2k device found, NOT connected!
      USB: IO Time-out!
      CMD: Data write fail!
      Volume Name fail!

    yeah that means it failed for some reason. Simply close P2k Commander and Phone Programmer, unplug your phone and give it a couple seconds... plug your phone back in and do the same process.

    4. If you have verizon, the animations will be located in /a/motorola/shared/picture

    5. Locate the animations which are labeled as customer_opening.gif for the startup animation and customer_closing.gif" for the shutdown animation.

    6. Now you need to choose a replacement and prepare the image to replace your current startup / shutdown animation. If you are creating your own custom animation, make sure that the image is 176x220 (176 width x 220 height) and that you save it in the gif format. If you do not use a gif image with this exact size, it will not work. Also note that animations larger then 320k appear to not function for the opening / closing.

    MAKE SURE THAT YOU SAVE THIS FILE AS customer_opening.gif OR customer_closing.gif

    It is required that you name the new image customer_opening.gif (for the startup animation) or name it customer_closing.gif (for the shutdown animation) so that the filename is the exact same as image currently on your phone. We recommend that you create a new folder on your computer such as c:\razr\ and place the image in there (it makes the next step alot easier)

    8. On the other window pane (where your phones files are not located) go ahead and locate the image that you would like to replace your original startup or shutdown animation with.

    If you saved the new customer_opening.gif or customer_closing.gif image to c:\razr\ then simply type that into the address located that is directly above "Filename" and then press enter

      If you saved it somewhere else then you need to locate it by double clicking the folder at the top of the list that says ".." -- this is another term for "go up a directory". Continue to double click it until you figure out where you are, and then locate that animation

    9. Alright! Now we're ready to transfer that new animation, arnt you excited?! Once you have located the new customer_opening.gif or customer_closing.gif image on your own computer, click on it (to select it) and simply Press the [Copy] button located in the bottom right hand corner of the program

    10. Success! The bottom left information screen should now say Uploading Left to Right: customer_opening.gif -- which means its about to be done.. give it a couple seconds, and then turn off and/or on your phone to see your bad ass new animations.
