In one word, no. It is far from worth it. I've wasted so many hours on this damned mp3 player, and I'm stilling having *many* problems with it!
First off, it is very picky when it comes to ID3 tags. I haven't found one program that will correctly write them for this device without screwing up in some other way. The many times I've tried all I've gotten was a bunch of blocks of characters - and when I did finally get all my songs ID3 tags in order.. Almost half of my collection is "corrupted" - even though they play on my PC.
Too make matters worse the firmware's usb mode has just quit working on me and my phone doesn't show up on my PC. Lame.
Some of the other countless problems are file detection; which is very unreliable (when I'm lucky it'll find all my songs.) The theme is ugly, (although people have found ways too change it) you need an adapter to use regular headphones, (which isn't vivo's fault, I'd just like to point that out) and you're only allowed 1 gigabyte for your songs!? Lame!
About the vivo firmware in general: I'm only allowed to have 60 text messages on my phone at once! Also when I'm writing a text message without any space it won't allow me to send it!? Seriously, that is some poor thinking on their part.
Good things about the firmware: Any song on my sd card can be transferred via bluetooth and you can also transfer your songs to your phone's memory to be used as a ringtone! It is also a LOT faster then verizon's firmware and it's prettier too.
I highly reccommend this firmware both for it's ease of installation and it's easy customization, but NOT for the mp3 player!
the mp3 player is great. i use Creative Media Source 5, it works like a charm, ID3 are perfect and album art works also (as long as its a lower pixel number that i cant remember right now). the flip closed controls are bomby, the iPhone mp3 player dealie is really cool too. and the headphone and 1 gb problems as mentioned above are on motorola, not vivo. and the im glad the headphone requires an adapter, it makes the phone smaller.
Well, I certainly don't think it's very helpful. Sounds like you need an Ipod.
-And a Midol.

You sound angry. Can't start off an objective review sounding angry now can we?

Far less picky than Verizon though, huh?

I think there are other limitations of the MP3 player of which you may be unaware. For example, there is a (I believe it's...) 28 character limit for music file names, which includes the directory address. If the folder directory plus song name exceeds this limit, it's either not going to be recognized at all, or recognized as corrupt.

I seriously doubt that. Have you made sure to change your default USB settings to "USB Drive"?

Once again, I think if you were aware of the other limitations, you would be having less problems in this department.

-This statement alone makes this a certified rant, instead of a helpful review or opinion.

These are limitations of the phone and have nothing to do with the firmware.

I'm not suggesting that anyone do the Vivo Flash specifically for the MP3 player, though it seems very few people who have done the flash are/were unhappy with it.
I'm saying that people should not avoid flashing to Vivo based on your assessment of the MP3 player since you seem to be having so much trouble with it. Perhaps after you work out some of your difficulties, you'll reconsider.
i read some where at HoFo i think that (including .mp3) the name can be 37 characters. or maybe it was 34, but i generally just keep it short anyway. and i always do 01 Trackname 02 Trackname, so they line up in order. and yes the 0 in front is necessary. if not youll get 10, 11, 12, 13, 1, 2, 3, etc
Before this post gets flamed to death I just thought I might clear some things up..

Of course I put it in USB mode, what part of "the Firmware's usb mode" wouldn't you understand.

Why was I never informed of these limitations from the start? I asked about the mp3 player and I was never informed of any of them. I've had this firmware for a couple months now and I think it is alot better then verizon's.. But people should still no what they're getting themselves into!

But the thing is most people do it for the mp3 player (from my understanding)
Maybe after I get it all working I post guide.. Sorry for the "rant"
Well, I'm not trying to start anything, and my "midol" comment was probably (-ok, definitely...) over the top. Sorry, I was using your frustration as a source of fun, and that's not fair since my first twenty posts here were nothing but pure frustration about flashing difficulties, so I know how it feels.
But you seemed to be trying to write an informative bit, almost a warning, for those wondering if they should flash. I'm not waving my arms inviting people to The Dark Side, but if you're gonna lay out facts, they should be all the facts.
Sorry but it sounds like you're experiencing user errors that you would have with any phone MP3 player to me.
Besides, if you don't like Vivo for any reason, then yer just nuckin futz, that's all. I mean, all the cool people are doing it.

But on a lighter note

Try taking out the TransFlash card then reinsert (making sure to take battery out first) I've had to do this countless times with both vzw's ui and now that I'm a cool kid :P vivo's UI. USB mode only recognizes the transflash
Thanks for the suggestion freezebox, but I got it working..
Guess It just doesn't like my linux pc.
Psycho kitty: the review was intended to sort of.. inform people of the problems with the vivo firmware.
but compared to verizon's problems.. I could probably write a book on that! :D
Hi, I have noted since upgrading from MS Media player all my songs have been updated with newer ID tags... so all my older Mp3 players have issues with either long file names, and or newer ID tags that are not compatible with the older players.
I use a simple freeware progy that can write a standard v 1.1 ID tag from CD or Media player and drop them into Apple's Itunes player and it will allow all the songs that I had kept in MS Media player or on CD to run on my phone and older players. I get all the information and playability without all the hassle. Though some of the songs are renamed to just the song title, in which it is difficult to identify through 2000 songs at times. All in all Vivo is the best out side of Sprint... though Sprint is a bit cumbersome to use.
Online and operating normally To use the server you must enable WAP access on your account by going into the My account link on the side bar, going to Edit, then go to WAP, and then check the WAP access enable box and Submit.
is the vivo mp3 player worth it? [review of vivo too]
