Why doesn't DUN work? - FINALLY IT DOES.

Ok, I think I'm adding to this thread. This is the most unobvious forum I've ever used.

Thanks, to both Spike and Fog below I did get the the RAZR to connect up and work. I'm still waiting to see if Verizon is going to charge me anything. It doesn't appear that I'm being charged minutes so I'm guessing they're going to charge me data usage. The service is much more than I expected. I was looking for a 14.4Kb connection like I had on the StarTac. I'm getting about 400Kb down and 100Kb up. Sounds to good to be free.

Oh, and by the way follow Fog's instructions then add the crucial part: in QPST after you change the NAI in the M.IP tab, go to the PPP tab; select UM and paste the same yournumber@vzw3g.com into the red and black hashed box labeled NAI. That's what really made it work for me. Without that I still got vectored to Verizon for the $60 special.

First You need to enable Qpst file access.
This is done with the seem edit.
eem 2742, bytes 0000, record 1, offset 5A, bit 7.. check the box to enable/unlock File Access in QPST

Start QPST configureation and choose the correct com port for it to detect your phone.
Once the phone has been detected save and close

Start QPST Service Programming
Click The tab MIP
click read from phone
make sure the spc reads 000000
under teetherd Nai change from yournumber@dun.vzw3g.com to yournumber@vzw3g.com
write the data to the phone

Dun should now work

First of all, the username and password when using DUN by dialing #777 to access the Verizon network is not the same as what you listed. The information should be set as so:

username: yournumber@vzw3g.com
password: vzw

Also, there is now additional steps that need to be followed to properly set up dun, those steps are outlined on this page here: http://mark.cdmaforums.com/NoPapDun.htm Please note that this information may no longer valid on newer firmwares as the file that needs to be edited seems to be locked down on those firmwares. You could alternately try using the latest version of BitPim to access that file if QPST does not work for downloading the file. If neither of those methods work for downloading the nvm_factory file in order for you to edit the DUN string, you will have to use a different method. I cant find it right now, but if you ask in the forums, other users know what I am talking about. Keep me updated and I will update this FAQ.

Failing the above mentioned methods, it is possible to use a free dial up service provider such as those provided at www.nocharge.com .

Finally it should be mentioned that if you are on a newer calling plan that charges for data transmission, you WILL get billed for DUN.
